A lot of people in this thread are saying ghost counters t3, but really ghost is the counter to all Zerg and protoss units, not just t3.

The ghosts were used to specifically counter T3 zerg tech which MVP knew was coming. If MVP was fighting against DRG with his mass zerlings/muta style, no way in hell would he risk making ghosts. He'd be tank pushing DRG all day. At the end of the day, the strat designed to counter another strat did just that.

The larger strategy is that it's really really difficult to push against Z in those positions, in fact it's almost not possible barring some early timings. So what he does is just defend, and use drops to counter. Now my point is that this can work for Z too. There's nothing in the books that says Z needs to try to ram units down prepositioned tanks and ghosts. Z can easily keep up a muta flock or ling runbys on the outer T expansions. Why not do that and starve the T, just like he is doing to you, instead of head on clashes?

Look at Thorzain vs July DH summer, I'm fairly sure he did it back then yes thorzain on his stream has been massing ghosts against T3 tech since the beginning of the summer, I've been using ghost mech TvZ since June and I would have had to hear about it somewhere, besides IdrA lol, DeMu has been going ghosts against Z since July-ish, this is not brand new by any means, it was just shown in a large tourney and because people have never heard of it, they go straight to WAHHH IMBA QQ without figuring out how to deal with it. There is a huge window before ghosts come out when an infestor timing will destroy a lot of compositions, ghosts can be added to a variety of playstyles so it differs greatly timing wise, but you have to have scouted by then or else you SHOULD be losing lol.

Did anyone pay attention to, oh how about, how MVP actually won? He just defended and defended, but he countered only with 1-2 dropships of marines every time the Z engaged. The larger strategy is that it's really really difficult to push against Z in those positions, in fact it's almost not possible barring some early timings. Why not do that and starve the T, just like he is doing to you, instead of head on clashes? Because if Zerg doesn't engage when maxed, the terran army becomes so incredibly supply efficient that the Zerg cannot kill it even if they had three maxed armies attacking one after the other, especially since terran has so many supply-free defenses that they could literally turret/PF push to their expos.

Ghosts/Tank is far better to have than just Tank when spending gas lategame. The ONLY reason to go pure tank as your gas choice (besides a few medivac/viking) unit is if they are going heavy roach or baneling still in the lategame, or you need to desperately secure a new base and are short on units. That's the only time ghosts suck, when you enter the lategame already significantly behind in macro. Which happens a lot to lower level players that stay on twobase forever and don't realize you need to take a relatively quick third or you're approaching all-in.

His initial attack wasted TONS of banelings. He then wasted ALOT of ultras taking out a building CC and almost nothing else. Can't just look at it and say 'oh it's unbeatable!'. Mvp completely outplayed July.

If MVP sticks a pfort in each lane on metalopolis and has a decent number of siege tanks your ling baneling army will look silly. Then when you lose horribly the casters will be like "Don't know why he stuck with tier 2, huge mistake there, he needed to tech tier 3." If that was the solution someone would have done it ><. Its like when people were saying void ray collosus was broken, telling them maybe just make antiair units..... Lol. Is that really why you think ling bane is terrible? It's not like MVP can scout ling bane composition from zerg and then build 2 planetary fortresses.

snipe can still be used on roaches, (but roaches suck late game anyway)
