I feel a little bad. Halo is MLG's flagship game, and really expanded esports into a big market in NA. I never wanted to rain on that parade, and this is bound to breed bad blood between the two fanbases :/

Why ? Starcraft 2 is just a bigger game. Its just logical that the biggest game gets to have the biggest stage. Should 300 Halo spectators have a room thats big enough for 3000, while the 3000 starcraft spectators sit in a cramped spacing ?

But just because I'm curious, anyone read on any Halo related boards regarding this ?

This is so awesome! Absolutely great news for the growth of SC2 and a really awesome move by MLG. It's really clear that they are willing to push a lot for SC2, and I know I appreciate it haha. Sadly this time I wont be able to see as many of the games as at Columbus because of work, but I'm gonna try to get as many in as possible.

I was actually really happy that when I went over to the MLG forum, saw the Halo guys were "Well, it deserves that spot". Obviously the few people of "MLG Started with Halo, this is disrespectful" nonsense showed, but not much. Then I guess some PC guys go on "IT TAKES MORE SKILL TO PLAY PC GAMES"...that just bothered me. The thread was moving along so well, now it's turned into a garbage thread.

In the end, I can't wait for this weekend..gonna be niiiice.

Most Halo fans saw this coming, and have no issue with it. Rather than bash Halo, understand that it created MLG, and while some other SC2 league would have popped up by now, appreciate what Halo has done for SC in NA. The prize pool will undoubtedly be going up next season, probably to something around 20k for first place and 100k for the finals.

Another thing to note about MLG halo players, most of us play SC BECAUSE of MLG. I know that I personally wouldn't play it or follow it at all if it hadn't been picked up by MLG.
In this sense, Halo has directly increased the SC following.

Also, as far as individual skill is concerned, SC blows away Halo, but don't underestimate the skill of, or the teamwork required to play Halo at a competitive level.

I am really happy for SC2. I am really happy for the players who get to show off on the centre stage. I am really happy for the fans who get more space.

And to be quite honest, kudos to large parts of the Halo community. Know that while this thread might not reflect it, we know that the SC2 fans that now get to see our game take the centre stage have a lot to thank Halo for. Without Halo, there is every reason to believe that we would not be seeing HuK v NaniWa v DRG, BoxeR v IdrA and all the awesomeness that looks to be coming up.

I feel sad and commiserate with the Halo community. It is hard for a player and fanbase to go through what they have been going through.

So I will say this. Let us be happy for Starcraft. Let us be sad for Halo. Let us be excited for MLG Anaheim.

This is really nice news for us. We should be able to enjoy that without pissing on others. And we should realise that one of the things that Starcraft has is a fanbase that is super energetic, super excited and super positive at just about every event I have seen. I just wish that we could retain that positivity when it comes to announcements such as this.

There is no reason to talk smack about other games, especially when they are hurting. For everyone's sake, it would be better for Halo to be as popular with the live crowd and with stream watchers as Starcraft. And whereas I do not personally have much interest in viewing the Halo games, I do wish them all the success in the world. <3
