Well yeah it'll also take center stage at other MLGs and probably other computer game tournaments in which it is not currently center stage. If you were alluding to taking center stage in terms of becoming "the main stream activity" - at least in the West - you are dreamin' SC2 is cool but it will remain small in comparison with things like NFL, MLB, NBA, and all that. Too much money to compete against those! If you weren't referring to that at all with your cryptic post, my bad!

It honestly wont. Ever. Gaming has a social stigma. Especially competitive gaming. Sad but true.

Too niche, still too unprofessional, not enough appeal to the masses. There's just no way that it'll get anywhere near any kind of physical sport in the near future.

MLG providence, which are the finals yes, have a 50k prizepool... but I believe you need to qualify for Providence - not just anyone can compete like they do at earlier MLG events. You need to earn a certain number of points by doing well enough at the events leading up to it to get an invite. anyway, HuK hwaiting, center stage. GOGO!

So has science, flying, radio, tv, all new kinds of music, computers, cell phones and the internet. I'd say all those things are pretty mainstream now. So no, stop propagating the social stigma of gaming by placing it there yourself. We are not outsiders. We are not outcasts. We are the forefront of the newest mainstream.

There's just no way that it'll get anywhere near any kind of physical sport in the near future. "Niche" "unprofessional" and lack of "appeal to the masses" can all be overcome with time, investment, and sustained quality of play. The thing that really keeps eSports from rising higher is that old games die so quickly compared to traditional sports as technology marches relentlessly forward and sequelitis cannibalizes the audience from past iterations of what could have become quality competitive titles. Football obviously didn't suffer because of technology advancements, and neither the NFL nor FIFA has released Football 2 yet. These, fortunately, seem to be problems that Blizzard has considered. SC2's art style is one that will age gracefully because it does not depend on photorealism the way things like Halo and CoD do. 5 or 10 years from now, they're still going to look just fine, and the average home computer will probably then be able to handle ultra graphics too. It's the same way the first Toy Story still looks fine today while the action movies of the 90's that depend on special effects can frequently just look hokey and awful compared to today's more realistic movies. Similarly, something like Call of Duty or Avatar will probably look bad 10 years from now when CG technology gets even closer to being indistinguishable from live action. As for sequelitis, Blizzard has already laid out their plan to release expansion packs for the existing game rather than sequels so that the game will have time to grow. It remains to be seen just how much gets changed in these expansion packs, because they very well could change the game so much that they might as well be sequels, but I doubt that they will. The base mechanics will almost definitely remain the same, along with the UI and the general viewer experience overall. Basically I believe Blizzard wants this game to have a long competitive lifespan to grow as Brood War has.

"I dont see how ppl find watching sc2 exciting at all, i would rather fist my dog than watch one full match of sc2" -MarcMac0 Eh. You found the worst post in that entire thread. There were a couple haters, but most seemed pretty reasonable, recognizing that SC2 was the one with the most crowds. A few want the Halo fans to cheer louder so that MLG will consider putting Halo back on mainstage, but I can see if it's your favourite game, you'd want it back. Most seem pretty resigned that Reach ruined Halo thus killing the crowds while SC2 is booming.
