Everyone who is mad because Jessica selected Eve must be gay!
Who does not want to see female pro-gamers!! 0.o
I am loving the initiative and people should stop flaming that she was only selected because she was a girl. Why? Because Jessica said it herself that it was because she was a girl! Jessica wants to see women in SC2 and so do I! So, unless you are gay, you should stop complaining about this...

This is part of the problem though. You are only happy to see Eve on the team because of her sexuality ("otherwise you must be gay"), and nothing more. If her sexuality is what leads you to give her a positive reaction, you can't be surprised that others attack her based on her sexuality.

It should either be respect her as a player, not a sexual creature, or not be surprised she is being targeted for her gender. Can't have it both ways.

The problem with gender started way before this though. Female gamers get obscene amounts of crap every time they place a game. Socially ostracized and verbally abused because they are different from the "norm". Every single game is like this, so it is understandable that the talent pool for female gamers is not a profound and that of male gamers. The segregation happened a long time ago. Unless someone steps up and takes a chance, the cycle will continue and male gamers will be overwhelmingly if not the only professional gamers around.

Bringing on Eve is hopefully the first of many and is (as I see it) a kind of olive branch to other females to become more involved in eSports. Provide a tangible goal through the abuse and taunts that IS disproportionately thrown at them and perhaps steadily make females less and less "closet gamers".

Her gender is indeed (sadly) a central focus here, you are right, but instead of taking it as giving massive group of people a chance to shine, many cynically see it in a shallow sexual manner. Normally we rarely see or give a game about the gender divide in gaming, Jessica brought it to the forefront and it willing to do something about it instead of letting it remain the status quo.

Hopefully there will be enough ambitious women playing SC2 and other games that they can have the luxury of selecting them purely on merit and skill, but right now that is only a small facet of the issue here. The larger issue is finding a girl willing to stand up publicly and call herself and aspiring pro-gamer without being target and disproportionately abused by the general public. Eve is once such female and instead of backing down Jessica and SlayerS is helping her forward in the face of this prejudice. (Which looking through a lot of the posts, there definitely is in the community).

Even if Eve showed up as the super hyper Gosu bonjwa of bonjwa's, the community at large would STILL have given her abuse and taunts for being a girl in gaming. Perhaps Jessica could have handled things slightly differently with regards to the GSTL, everything is better in hind-sight, but the public's reaction while semi-expected is still unacceptable. Which is why overall I support her decision to not back down to the trolls on this one.

Isn't there someone who plays sc1 and not a male... and doesn't get any of the abuse that you so claim... unfortunate that she couldn't qualify again...supposedly met jangbi or so...

there's no difference... not like this crude matter... only different in your mind...

hope they do well in the future and possibly not overreact to something insignificant...

Only TossGirl? Thats it? One person in BW, not even the same game. She did a lot sure, but she got a LOT of undue crap along the way, I'm sure. SC2 has no TossGirl yet, and only a small handful of women streamers, who can probably attest that their chat logs are not really about the game. It will take time, but Eve is just exposing a much larger issue in my opinion. One that is now being focused down on her.

I meant more like esports as a whole and listed sc1 as an example

She was a good start, but a lot more needs to be done. And I think Jessica is providing the support TossGirl didn't get, which could make all the difference in the early stages of SC2.

Wow thank you so much for this amazingly insightful post. I'm glad she's not only taking a stand to the people who are harassing Eve, but is also taking a stand for herself against people who say Slayers should just shrug this off. SlayerS_Jessica FIGHTING!

HA! I'm so glad that Jessica not only posted here, irrespective of what some of you might think, but ecstatic that she took a stand against these trolls! (They're actually worse than trolls).

She, as a manager, has an obligation to her team and, in part, has to protect their good name. Whether or not you agree that recruiting Eve was a wrong move, guess what? It's not your team!

After reading 31 pages of pros and cons, (mostly pros) it boils down to SlayerS making a choice, both in hiring Eve and protecting her. Frankly, I'm often told to ignore the haters/trolls, "don't feed 'em," but when it gets ugly like this, it's time to STOP them!

This reminds me of the Futurama episode where Leela is hired to play Blernsball because she is entertaining and then the other female competitors were mad for not getting taken seriously and it made them impossible to rise up through the ranks.

Female leagues don't need to exist. There is no difference between male and female gamers (or at least I can't find any). I'd think it would be insulting to girl SC players to have to play in female only league o_o. The inequality in progaming may have to do with the pro houses being 100% male and that doesn't seem like the first place for any girl to want to jump into. But by at least bringing her in is a good start... maybe.

This is like the first steps being taken by a toddler, so it's inevitable that the starting level is low. But if she trains and receives training, I believe that she will achieve the match ability to at least give you all entertaining matches to watch.
That is why I selected her.

I don't know exactly how okay I am with setting the level "low". Surely there are many high level females out there that need no such coddling. I hope the best for EvE. I really do.

All and all I think SC is something that anyone with fingers (No walruses-Fins ruin e-sports) and a brain can compete in. If EvE helps open a door that I was fully aware was closed, brilliant, but I think it's unwise to treat her differently. It would be unfair for her to be a prop and not a progamer.

P.S - Don't sue anyone. Really, please don't. It's so retarded
and useless.
P.P.S - SlayerS was and still is my favorite team

SlayerS_Eve has a fanclub here on TL. We love Lim Yo Hwan, I love BoxeR, I did not care that he never posted results like Jang Min Chul or Nestea. Boxer has given us the Slayers team and many new talents. he brings joy and excitement to e-sports.

If Lim Yo Hwan retires, i will be there saying thank you for everything you've done, and i'm your supporter even now.

if he keeps playing, i will continue to cheer for him (except if hes is vs HuK or MC, lol <3)

SlayerS_eve doesnt deserve to be attacked and bullied, I do not know her as a player and therefore i cannot say im a fan, but i support her through this hardship because she seems like a nice person being attacked by the worst kind of cyber resident there is.

It should become official TL policy to support her through this.

I'm very glad you posted this, I have always been supportive of you because I saw what you do for SlayerS through interviews and videos. It's very encouraging to see what you do for BoxeR and how willing you are to support the team. I hope for the best result of this situation and that you and SlayerS get back on their feet.

it is no mean feat for a female to reach Master level while laddering against males.

This is where you lose me... The admission that even though she's not really good enough, she made the team because she's a girl. This is exactly why people give her shit.

Exactly. Jessica recruited a girl to make SlayerS stand out more, to "peacock" as a team through methods other than skillful players -- Korean netizens got mad at this. Many of us in America also find this to be disappointing, *especially* when there are certainly more-deserving master league korean females who you presumably didn't choose based on looks or something. -_-

final edit -- and you are insulting females as a gender and your own player by making it seem they are inherently worse than males at SC2. they aren't, they are just less interested in it (in GENERAL) so they either never play it or don't play it much. however, the small minority that DO try to get good do indeed get very good.

I cant agree with this post more. And seeing as how your didnt get warned / banned. destiny on his stream is making some really good points. shes recruited for just being a girl. And by saying she'll bring entertainment is complete crap... the gender never takes effect when we watch SC2...we watch lings fight marines and get excited. the only thing giving a bad player a spot because she's a girl is bound to upset people and they will let you know...some will do so through inappropriate methods.

It was translated. He is on Destiny's stream at the moment. If you miss it try watch the VOD.

adding something, I 100% agree with Destiny (who's discussing this on his stream now) but I don't think that she deserves to be attacked for being a girl nevertheless

SlayerS could put a dog in their house and the dog would become a great sc2 player. I'm sure this Eve girl will become good and inspire more females to try to be pro.

God that talking with destiny was better than watching/playing sc2!
Tyles.772 Bobstar.223 I'm just disappointed they overhyped an announcement which would obviously cause a lot of backlash in the TL community. Sure they acquired huk, but they didn't have to rub it in our faces.

Regardless of what anybody could ever say about Slayers Jessica, you can't say she doesn't believe what she's saying. Kind of inspiring in a lioness protecting her cubs kind of way.
If you're mad that someone else is brazenly trumpeting their beliefs with ignorance, perhaps you should be mad that you are doing it too.
