This this this. Jessica and SlayerS can't have really expected the community to support this move wholeheartedly when they admit to choosing a new player based on looks and potential as opposed to results and skill. That being said, the porn shit and hateful posts are taking this too far.

Slayer_jessica, I hope you and Slayers get this whole situation figured out. Even if Slayers_Eve isn't the best player in the world and some people might not agree with your decision to add her to the team, in no way does she deserve what has been done to her. Best of luck and regards.
But yeah being a Korean gamer is very imba. If you're a non-korean gamer you have to balance your game playing with earning money and your real life. If you're Korean you just sit around playing games all day eating 2 cent ramyun and becoming gosu.

It's great that women are getting into StarCraft and esports but there was a lot of stuff in there that suggested you didn't think women couldn't compete with men.

it is no mean feat for a female to reach Master level while laddering against males.

She was not inducted so that she would achieve incredible feats in individual leagues like the GSL.

Holding people to a different standard will only exclude them further from the community. You can see the same thing with sports at the moment. Football is the biggest sport in the world yet barely anyone watches female football tournaments. For women to actually be accepted and feel welcome we need to expect them to be able to compete with everyone. There is no reason why a woman who practices enough couldn't win any major tournament and if you don't expect someone to be able to compete then they shouldn't be a professional gamer whoever they are.

I think it was unfair of people who disagreed with SlayerS' move to acquire Eve to attack Eve directly, as if she was at fault. I still don't know where I stand on the decision to acquire Eve on the team, but I do know that Eve certainly hasn't done anything wrong. She is just playing the game she loves and she got approached by a prestigious team with a great offer. Why would anyone blame her or attack her for saying yes? Even though I'm not sure if SlayerS made the right move acquiring Eve, I can say that I am very pleased with how well they are defending her against these unfair attacks.

And he must have believed that it was better to spread this on TL instead of trying to do it in Korea.

(He says that someone on TL independently posted his claims. I find this hard to believe.)

Well, you can believe him now.I decided to post that thread because the way you have been acting was really questionable. You must surely know that your tone of writting was way beyond 'keyboard warrior'

I like how you have apologised (hopefully to that high-school girl too). I wish best of luck to SlayerS.

Why's there always such a big fuss when some female wants to go pro or whatever?
Even mentioning that she is female is already differentiating no matter what your intentions are.

Women in esports should not receive any more attention than equally skilled males do. As IdrA already put it, it's a video game and not a dating show.

I find those who attack and those who defend females equally disturbing and wrong. When will we ever be able to actually only care about meaningful information?

Makes sense to me. In all honesty she's probably one of the best female sc2 players in the world.

Worse players get a lot more attention than really good unknown players for a variety of reasons (Destiny) so this isn't anything new.

Sorry if this has already been asked, but did Jessica write this herself (as opposed to having a translator write it)? If so, consider me incredibly impressed. This was better written than it would've been by most native English speakers.

I haven't been following the story and had no idea this was getting so crazy in Korea.

My hat is off to Slayers Jessica. Judging by the very harsh community response, I was worried about what would happen (and it has indeed become much worse), but Slayers Jessica has been strong and professional and has taken responsibility and defended her decisions (and her team). I don't know whether girl progaming will ever be able to succeed considering the environment of the community, but if it does succeed it will be thanks to this example.

To Slayers Jessica: stay strong and continue the good work. Hopefully one day there will be many more progaming teams with female divisions and we'll have competitive female tournaments worth watching; but there are still many hurdles to jump until that point, and the community needs good examples to follow. You have earned my respect for your professionalism (especially in the face of vicious criticism) and your clear vision for the Slayers team, and I am sure I am not alone in saying so.
Best of luck to the team.

Posting now as support for SlayerS_Jessica. I've been aware of this as it's unfolded and I wish SlayerS, most notably Eve and Jessica the best luck and health while weathering this shit storm.

Again, though, what she wrote in the post is a step in the wrong direction. I'm still hoping that it is actually a language barrier issue, but implying that women could not compete in Brood War and that Jessica cannot perform in the GSL, being there merely for entertainment, is a regressive step.

Why not just say "We think Eve has a lot of potential, as she won the women's tournament and is a strong Diamond player?"
