I am beginning to hate the SC2 community more then anything else. Its even worse then the WoW community is at the moment. Alot of ppl like to kick ppl when they are down or have views that are so far from reality that its ridiculous. The obvious prove of this is the thread of EG aquiring Puma and all the crap Jessica is getting for protecting someone who is on her team and who she feels responsible for.. I fully support Slayers_Jessica on this topic. Noone deserves to be bulllied and ridiculed!

Jessica, I along with the rest of the foreign community that are NOT cold, heartless, and unemotional stand by you. Mistreatment of anybody is wrong. In America's culture, bullying is never dealt with properly, because at a young age, adults are too politically correct to actually punish bullies because they feel a need to protect the bully as well as the victim, and at an older age, we're told to just be "grown up" about it and deal with it privately. I'm glad that Korea has these laws in place to deal with these kinds of issues, but I'm even more happy that there is someone like you at the helm of SlayerS who will not stand for things like this. I commend you Jessica. Fight on!

I'm 99% sure that's Tossgirl as I remember being told afterward and being pissed that I didn't grab her autograph. I'll have to look for confirmation though.

I wholeheartedly agree with many of the points you brought up Jessica. Your entire article was almost too challenging for me to finish as I very personally understand the concept of cyber-bullying. My long time best-friend has been a victim of this grueling crime in the past. It all starts with an acquaintance who had acquired his personal information (cell#, facebook, home #, school) and all was posted on 4chan with photos of my friend and a fake news excerpt accusing him of raping two 14 year old girls (Quite a sick thing to accuse someone for the lols). This was all completely false, it quickly spread past 4chan and was posted in many places. My friend was in very rough shape. He was receiving thousands of calls/text messages a day on his phones(he wasnt even 18 at the time, so his parents got it too). I gave him good advice though, He was all for lashing out on the internet and threatening the individual responsible (which accomplishes nothing, as far as the attacker is concerned he's invincible online until he's being approached by police officers) and I directed him to just call the police, contact his phone company to get his number changed, Stay away from his PC for a week or two, and just not throw gasoline into the raging fire. Obviously he disliked this course of action but it really was for the best. The act was done not out of any personal dislike for my friend but "just because" or "for the lols" by his attacker and the same is true for what happened here to Eve, her family, and all of SlayerS... The people attacking you have no moral backbone to fallback on, for me, they aren't worth initiating any sort of contact with.

I feel that the public outcry that has resulted since Eve appeared on Gom is not as as much a reaction to her being a female, or being lower ranked, or the way in which she was recruited(which obviously would receive the majority of ignorant negativity, but these argument points is merely the hot coals that can reignite a fire) With that in mind, I feel it this was primarily an outcry against internet censorship. As soon as an individual tries to mediate and control the internet they are suddenly throwing themselves into the spotlight... in a situation in which I wouldnt even want to be near the stage. As far as I know, many of the photo shopped images initially appeared on a website which mimics the English speaking worlds 4chan. Having personally dealt with repulsive personal attacks I understand that these individuals all have similar ideals, and will always work together (Look at the anonymous DDOS attacks). They felt threatened by being publicly denounced, accused, mediated, and so they lashed back aggresively. To them, this is a normal reaction to an absurd campaign to "get them back!". I understand the pain, but whenever you're arguing with e-gangsters, even if you win the argument for a short period you lose and lose hard in the long run. In the case with Eve, I definitely feel the entire debacle should have been kept out of the media. Twitter (or forums!) is just not the medium where you can convince people or accuse people or argue with people; by doing any of these three things you are giving it so much exposure to the sort of individuals who are content with being ignorant arses. As I understand it things like this have become more and more common in NA and other parts of the world (I cannot speak for the korean 4chan or similar websites in other regions), and for the most part it does not get much media exposure and the event will fade away after a few weeks. In the case with SlayerS and Eve many people on both sides were hurt so rapidly and similarly lashed out on public media in an outcry. I feel this is what made everything spiral out of control.

I've always felt you can just never win online. This is why I admire your continued progression towards lawsuits and legal action against the individuals harboring this extreme negative resentment towards yourself, SlayerS, and Eve. I commend your passion and effort so far in fighting for justice, equality, and moderation in the realm of the internet. My friend went down that road and although not much came of the investigation my friend received damage compensation and his attacker received a misdemeanor. Small win in the grand scheme of things. I hope your continued motivation towards justice will end in similar results but at a much larger scale. I'm not sure if this is appropriate, but it sums up the extent of my Korean language knowledge, Sugo Haseyo Jessica (work hard?) and I know you and Eve will receive some of the closure you are looking for.

Anyways sorry if this is long winded, It was more of a flowing stream of my thoughts after I read the article. I came a little late to the "party" (this thread), but I hope it wasnt all that meaningless. I guess since it's on the 29th page in a thread filled with one liner responses it probably will never get read.

At least, your post will help some people to remember that there's real people behind the internet.

But, i'm kinda sick of this thing and i think you shouldn't care much. For me, it is hurting SlayerS reputation.

Good luck anyways, i still love boxer lol.

I have no problem with going after all of the people on the internet that slander the poor girl for and post horrible pictures. What bugs me is that her skill level is not that of somebody that is a progamer. Jessica said in the OP how could we expect her to be in Masters in a month, and if we did how could we expect any girl to get into it? Well I don't expect her to be among to best players in the world in under a month, but like everybody else who picked up this game move her way up. No other team has signed someone that was not up to par with the competition. There is no doubt somebody more deserving of the spot. I don`t think that it is bad for them to sign a girl on their team, but they should only sign people deserving, who have put in the time. If I was a girl I would find it sort of offending that they added her to the team based on her sex. That being said I still love Slayers

Jessica, let me take this moment to say, that I have been and will always be a fan of Lim Yo-Hwan. And I am a big fan of SlayerS as a team, and as players. And that after reading what you posted here, I understand where you're coming from and totally agree, Eve did nothing to insight this reaction from people on the internet, it's totally unjustified (if any of you think it is then something is decidedly wrong with you, sorry but you're in need of therapy if you think Eve deserves any of this).

I am ashamed that other StarCraft fans would even think of direct hateful messages toward you based on what has happened and what you have done. You're protecting your team, right or wrong, you're doing it for the right reasons. Thank you for your commitment to your players, people throw the term supporting E-Sports around a lot, I think somewhere we've lost track of supporting people and ideas. You're supporting and defending your team, which is more than a lot of horrible people out there.

Also, if you would tell Lim Yo-Hwan this for me I would be pleased.

Never put down that mouse, keep fighting, you're still my champion sir, keep it up, even if you cannot play someday, show us what all that experience and mental prowess can do and raise up even more skilled players, like iloveoov in times past and like MMA, Ryung and GanZi now.
Don't be surprised when a crack in the ice...appears under your feet.

You're giving it your all for SlayerS and so are Boxer and Eve. You have our hearts and support! I think it's great to give Eve a chance to be on SlayerS and introduce female SC2 professionals. Encourage her and stick to her, as long as she can get over this hill, she will succeed in many other ways than just SC2.

As a female player that LOVES this game, loves to play and strives to get better it hurts me to see some of these things said about Eve. I was originally EXTREMELY excited to see that slayers had brought her on to the roster and I was cheering for her that she would hopefully do well and get trained like everyone else to compete in high level games.

I then see the post made by Jessica here, and it hurts to read some of the things she posted.

That her looks are being made a factor is sad. That she is saying that women playing among men is like taking the first baby steps like a toddler is insulting. Implying that they hope she is good for show matches for males to watch and how they don't expect her to do well enough to perform in the GSL is disgusting to me. I'm incredibly hurt and upset as a female player that is striving my hardest to play better that they are posing this more as a show and not as hope that she will be good and go on to do great things.

I had really hoped to have a female player I could end up rooting for in the GSL and other tournaments knowing that she would do well with the amazing Slayers team behind her, but knowing that they only seem to intend her to be entertainment really sours my taste of the Slayers team.

It can hardly be argued that people hasn't overreacted to Eve joining SlayerS. That being said I think there are some valid critisism against her joining.

The fact that she is diamond wouldn't be a problem at all if it was likely that she was one of the better females in korea. But we all know that there are likely hundreds of korean women that are more skilled at the game than her (if not thousands). So why was she chosen over say the highest ranked female on the ladder? Well, Jessica stated in her announcement that they did that partly because of her good looks. If there's anything unfair in this whole situation it's not that some low masters boys/men are not getting into a proteam but the fact that some hard working highly skilled women aren't.

I agree that the threshold for female gamers should be lower due to the cultural differences and the heavily male favor in gaming. But if you're going to invite a woman to a pro team you should do it solely based on skill. To even consider someones physical appearance is downright demeaning to women and probably scares more women away from gaming because they think that they might not be pretty enough. I mean how ridiculous would it be if s team recruited a low masters male gamer and stated that part of why he had joined was his looks. That being said I don't know how much of a part the looks thing played (if any) in the decisionmaking here but it's hard to find another reason seing as her skill is quite clearly not top amongst females.

Again I don't really have a huge problem with this in any way. I take it for what it is. A marketing ploy to get more women interested in gaming. I think it's a positive thing in general. But I don't think they're going about it the right way.

As for the people that blatantly attack and demean women and innocent people in general on the web, well, they are immature little shitheads that should have gotten a better upbringing. But we have to accept that these people are what they are. Taking a rude bastard on the internet seriously is also somewhat gullible. I mean I feel for the people that take a beating from cyber bullies. But at the same time you need to be able to have enough self confidence to shrug idiotic comments off. I generally admire people that allways listen to critisism and try to change for the better but some people online are so unreasonable that you just have to mentally file them into the "moron cabinet" and not pay them any more attention.

eve was the ONLY girl at gsl qualifiers if you didn't know, so maybe if those hundreds of other girls come out in public they will be recruited as well

The only girl that was filmed by artosis at that particular time. I don't doubt that she might be one of a few women(or possibly the only one) to show up at the GSL quals but that doesn't constitute any evidence to her being the best female player.

If you think about the gaming culture and how male dominated it is. Then think about how adolescent computer geeks generaly view women. Do you think that is an environment that young girls feel comfortable jumping into? They know that they're going to be oogled for being female and critisized way more harshly than the men at their skill levell.

It's also very likely that there are a bunch of better female gamers that just realised that they had just about 0 chance to qualify in the first few seasons of the GSL when the competition was so insanely high even in the quals. If you actually look at that video you would realise how Eve had almost no chance at actually beating a good player to take the GSL spot. Other women might have just weighed that one in a million chance lighter than her.

And sure the will to compete and be there is a plus for Eve. But it doesn't automatically make her the best female sc2 gamer in korea. Just one of the most confident ones.

O wait... I probably cant join the team BECAUSE I DONT HAVE A VAGINA
(please don't file a lawsuit against me Jessica^^)

PS. she is not actually in diamond league ^^ some1 else played on that to reach diamond. If you wanna see her play you can go check it out by clicking this link Link
where she barely beats a silver league player
+ If you actually check her recent ladder games she loses to silver players with her GOLD LEAGUE account ^^

All and all Slayers_Jessica i don't care if you are filing lawsuits to internet trolls BUT PLEASE at least stop making BULLSHIT excuses about Slayers_Eve joining the team

I hope you enjoy your ban.

On another note, I wish Slayers the best of luck and hope to see Eve grow as a player.

It's not just for show you know. Jessica wants this exposure just like you said, maybe a female to root for in the GSL. But I think she and Boxer and SlayerS know the limits to Eve's capabilities. But I mean, they didn't force her so she must have agreed to come on SlayerS. And to be honest, referring to the first professional female SC2 player as a big step isn't all that incorrect.

Thank you SlayerS_Jessica for making it clear to the western SC2 community that Eve was not brought in because of her explicit talent but because she is a female that is skilled at the game, and has the potential to become a competitor with the sport as a whole. This game is tough for women (no one else needs to argue with me on this, just look at the male dominance of the scene), so seeing more female gamers helps in every way.

That being said, in my western culture:
If someone in your family was the victim of cyberbullying, would you tell them to stop overreacting?

Oh yeah, definitely. Even the porn thing. We are all raised to have tough skin. Lashing out only serves to validate the attackers ability to have an effect on you. But this is my culture. I am to understand that in Korean culture, attacks like these seem to have a greater effect on people. To the point where celebrities are taking there own lives.

So do I think all the actions Jessica took were wrong? Except for maybe the whole twitter incident which I am still not 100 percent on, no. South Korea is capable of handling itself politically and legally so if the country decides that actions against random internet posters is no longer necessary I am sure it will do away with it. It would make no sense in the US as there would be millions of lawsuits a day.

As far as the twitter thing, one needs to have tough skin to responsibly use and view twitter.

That being said. I am all for girls stomping nerds in SC2. Go slayers.

Like many people here, I just wanted to post to register my whole-hearted support for SlayerS, Jessica, BoxeR and Eve. <3

Anyone who has seen the BoxeR's Wings documentary (you can find it on YouTube) will see how dedicated Jessica is to protecting and supporting BoxeR. Clearly these feelings also extend to her team and that is to be respected and encouraged, as it is a beautiful and wonderful thing.
