TSL do NOT pay salleries, FD and Tester were the only salleried players. If a player, wants to leave an organisation in which he puts 10 hours a day in...for virtually the CHANCE to make a living, would rather give that up to make a stable living, then that is perfectly fine by me.

EG asked him if he wanted to join, I don't see the big deal, Puma obviously wanted to join a foreigner team.

Dug up the news article where TSL announced they're giving players salaries. They have salaries for ALL the players. Contract? Yes/No?

This is more like a free-agent than buying someone out. EG needed a good terran on their team for practice partners, they are just deepening their lineup.

From what i've understood is that most players in KOR are technically free-agents right now as the teams can't give deals that motivate signing contracts

Then KOR teams either need to move to another country for more tournaments and sponsors for their player or die due to a failing KOR market for SC2.

How is the Korea market failing...?

And yes, the Korean teams should move from where they are now. Genius.

In this case, we do not know what "approached by Startale" means.

Was it just Startale going, hey DIMAGA, interested in playing for us? Or did they offer him a contract/deal without going through mTw management.

I think, and I believe Xeris posted, that it's fine to ask if players have interest in playing for you. But offering them a contract/deal behind their managers/coaches backs is a whole other issue.

Nothing wrong with offering terms, they would still have to come to an agreement with the players current team though.

It makes you wonder what EG gets from this deal. I dont think he will live with the other EG-members so they have an extra practice partner. So it is purely for promotion during tournaments. He is a great player though so kudo's to EG.

They want to fly Puma and have him win tournaments since no one else besides Idra is capable of doing that.

I don't know how sports transfers happen in the US but in Europe (in football), you have to make a formal approach to the club, not the player, after talking to the club and if the clubs can came to an arrangement the club after the player is then allowed to talk to the player about salary, length of contract etc....

Not talk to player, don't bother talking to management of said player (if that is indeed what happened).

So no its not completely normal in sports. You should what manager over here say if an opposition manager even mentions one of their players.... See Wenger and all the drama surrounding Nasri

You're right -- professional sports is such a small world, that it's usually a professional courtesy to for a team to request permission to speak to a player, executive or manager that they are interested in.

Could EG have handled it better? Maybe. But if TSL payed their players -- hell, if the Korean business model of e-sports made more sense -- they wouldn't even been in the situation where a high caliber player would entertain an offer from a foreign team.

I hope this motivates other Korean teams to more actively protect their players, and give them better benefits, pay and living conditions.

So will puma move to the eg house in USA? Doubt it, but seeing he just lost his practice house in Korea which gives him tons of good practice it will be interesting to see how his skill will evolve when being " alone "

This happens in the regular working world all the time. A company approach a person they want and offer him a deal. The sports would can work a little different but usually it's set in the rules to create a fair "playing ground." All this talk about respect and class is just silly.

Puma leaves a TSL that is falling apart, the Koreans get to feel how it really is to want a GLOBAL star league and not only a "Korean takes foreign money while everyone else is watching".

Time to wake up Korea, shit just got real in the global economi. Will be very interesting to see what will come out of this. There has already been some talks in sweden about the need for some sort of global orgaisation for shit like this to get sorted out.

Now the koreans might also push in that direction, only good things can come out of this deal, and we haven't even heard EGs side of it yet.

Are you serious? Have you read none of the other posts in this thread? And I assume you don't take TSL into consideration when saying that.

What is so wrong?

You don't think TSL thinks this is a bad thing? You do think that Puma will get the same training with EG as he did in the TSL house? And all the countless other things that have already been posted in this thread.

You are missing the point. TSL was loosing player left and right, how they would only be able to survive beacuse of Puma is just bullshit fanboys talk. They will make it or die, like in any economi.

Shit just got real, Puma will do good things for EG for a long time to come, just look at their rooster now.

And if we get more regulation and rules about how proffesional SC2 teams, players and tournaments should be organisated globaly it is all for the better.

EG is just the first to truly test the global player market.

I'm not missing any point, I fully understand "Only good things can come ot of this deal" - MY point is that you can't look at it that one sided, you have to take all parts into consideration.

Like the global perspective and not just the korean?

Ok

Are you kidding me?!

No, not JUST THE KOREAN, read what I just wrote for fuck sake. ALL PARTS. I didn't say ONLY bad things comes out from this, but I think it's incorrect to say that it's ONLY good things.

TSL has released him so you don't know that he would not have played out the contract. In my opinion, the only reason they release him is because the benefit of releasing him and saving face outweighs the probably short remaining time on his deal.

That they would rather publicly embarrass him than let him play out his deal is low class and I have no sympathy for them.

Where do you get these facts? You're just making stuff up.

Huh? Are you dense? It's right in the OP that TSL released him. What did I make up?

If they wanted to enforce a contract they could have. Instead they released him. That's a fact, Jack.

Starcraft 2 is teeny tiny in South Korea, compared to BW that is a failure any way you look at it.

Stop calling it theft, for fuck's sake.

Breaking contract

Elaborate, and then provide evidence for these assertions. You have such little information in your brain about the incident but you come to such conclusions somehow?.

Breaking a contract only happens if you are not released from the contract. Puma was released from his contract by request.

Also, consider that a player of puma's calibur might not have even been making a salary. $0 vs a steady income. If this is the case (which it may well not be, I'll admit), do people really want to see a top player like him be denied what he deserves?

Exactly. Which is why I'm asking all the EG condemners here why poaching is a bad thing (i.e. taking players w/out consulting TSL mgmt). So many pepole are saying it's bad but can someone plz tell me why it's bad?

Imagine your girlfriend went on a trip, and someone just approached her and asked her to be his girlfriend, and she accepted. No contract, not married. Sure, you feel like you've been betrayed, but it's not wrong, right?

Lol... is that legitimately how you feel? You feel like this is a proper comparison? If your gf goes to another country... hahah wow...

Alrite I'm going to indulge you on this. If your GF goes to another country, gets approached and offered a position as GF with another man AND she accepts, you probably deserved it.

Lol, its the other way around. If she accepts, he probably should be glad he got rid of such a girl.

I think we should approach this in a good manner. EG needs to show some respect to another culture, adapting and take care of their reputation as a respectable and honest team. Kind of dont go hand in hand with Idra so what the hell, great move EG :D

I am so incredibly torn in this thread. I can see how there is so much debate.

On the one hand it certainly seems unethical or disrespectful or EG to go behind the back of TSL management and work out a deal with Puma when he was over here. Especially if he was on contract.

But on the other hand, perhaps It isn't foul play if it is what the player wants.

There's a lot of name calling but the thread hasn't really convinced me of either side yet. Although I do feel sympathy for TSL.

There should be some sort of contractual obligation.

It's not like the Toronto Raptors General Manager can approach Kobe Bryant in a parking garage and offer him double.

EG.IdrA "IPL Session 1 Champion"
How does that qualify in ur head?...
Haters gonna Hate.

that was a US-invite only tourney. lol.

MLG champion, last foreigner in the last MLG placing 4'th behind MC/losira/mma.

Give it a rest you fanboy tool.

Ah so saying that Idra has better results then other foreigners as fact is now fanboy? please get a grip.

You are wrong, that's what makes it fanboyism when you state incorrect things as facts. Idra does not have better results than other foreigners. He may have good results, but thats about it.

Sjow, jinro, whitera, naniwa, fenix all have better and more impressive results, hell even thorzain.

I have already said Jinro is up there. Fenix, naniwa, sjow, white ra do NOT have the results Idra have. I am sorry its fact.

Big tournaments:

Top 8 in every mlg but 1 for Idra
Won an MLG
qualified for every single GSL tournament
made ro8 code S
Won IPL season 1 (I agree not the biggest deal sense there were no EU players)

Jinro:
Won an MLG (hasn't played any others unless I am mistaken?)
Made semi finals in GSL code S twice in a row (very impressive)
Made ro16 code S (I believe dont' know for sure?)

So far I would say idra/jinro have same accomplishments in major tournaments (Jinro making semi finals twice in a row was amazing). But Idra is still more consistent as he almost always makes it far in big tournaments.

Huk is getting to jinro/idra in achievements.

Huk:
ro8 code A
Qualified for code S
Ro16 code S
won an MLG
Won dreamhack
won homestory cup

Those 3 are imo the 3 "best" foreigners in terms of achievements (thorzain only has TSL 3 win how is that better accomplishments then idra/jinro/huk?).

2nd at gamescon

Gamescon isn't for another month. Did you mean 2nd at Gamescon NA qualifier?

Dimaga said that in an interview while he was in the GOM House

I dont have the link, dont know how to find it really but it was an interview conducted by Kelly and Doa on a stream after Dimaga won vs Nestea in the GOM house, it was with all the players.
Dimaga said that he was not interested because he didnt want to leave his girlfriend and family (because they asked him to move to korea)
I will try and search for the video, was a long time ago
