Hey, all. I noticed a lot of people were wanting ways of swapping all of the English SC2 voice actors to the Korean, and some previous method people were using had become outdated. Using some more MPQ editing, as I'm sure most of you will have come across before at some point throughout TL, I extracted all of the actor audios from the Korean SC2 client and uploaded them for your use.
As always, do this at your own peril. MPQ editing is against the ToS. While there are a lot of people doing it without any reported bans such as Pzea's Stronger Team Colours, the Background Menu Customisation or my Ghost to Nova Model Edit, I'm not going to tell you there's no chance of getting banned for doing it because there's always a risk no matter what anyone tells you.
Still interested? Awesome, me too. First off, you're going to need to download the MPQEditor. This is by no means advanced software, it just lets us open the files used to make SC what it is, and let us see what's inside. As well as edit them. Obviously.
Go to your SC2 folder, Mods\Liberty.SC2mod and then open enGB.SC2assets with the MPQEditor (Just drag and drop it onto the editor). This might also be called enUS/ruRU/deDE/zhTW.SC2Assets or whatever. Depends on your region. There's also one in there called enGB.SC2Data. Make sure you don't mix them up. BACK UP YOUR enGB.SC2ASSETS FIRST INCASE YOU MESS UP or change your mind later.
After you've got that open, go to the folder "LocalizedData" inside. This will have the two folders "Facial" and "Sounds" within it. You're going to need to replace the "Sounds" folder with the one in the download below. After that, you're good to go.
That method has 1gig of downloads, most likely because it also downloads the entire campaign in Korean also which a lot of people won't want. This is over 10 times smaller. He also says something about having to use Repair.exe every time there's a patch released. This shouldn't affect any future patches.

I'd rather mess with some downloads than edit MPQs, which is a bannable offense.

There hasn't been a single verified ban in a year of MPQ editing. Or a collaborative 6-7 years if you include other blizzard titles. Wouldn't worry about it. Unless blizzard is expecting a competitive player to have 4-5 installs of sc2 for whatever server they're playing on that day.
I'm sure there has been noone that has been banned for sound changing. Blizzard will only ban if they suspect you of cheating in any way. They will also ban if you get reported, unless your maphacking through mpq editing you won't and shouldnt get banned.

There have been plenty of MPQ edit bans in WoW. I'd rather take a long way around to ensure the safety of my account, instead of giving Blizzard any sort of reason to ban it. We agreed to their ToS and EULA.

Obviously no one's going to make you use this method, but for the sake of argument, what's the difference between this one and that other guys' one? His method just tricks the game client into using a different language, while mine does it manually. They both produce the same result. If Blizzard had some way of detecting the change, there isn't going to be any evidence on mine over the other method that'll make mine any more detectable.
And yes there has been a few bans for WoW model editing, but none that I know of that weren't well deserved. Lots of people I knew, including myself, used race/spell/weapon swapping model edits, but the only people I heard of being reportedly banned were those using model edits for exploitation to benefit them in some way in-game rather than just visual appeal like the rest.
Teliko's method is actually a lot simpler than it sounds. When he was talking about mpq editing I had no idea what to expect, but it turned about to be just like opening a normal folder only though the use of a program. His video makes it kinda easy too.
It was linked in the very first response and already been discussed, please read through the thread before posting. Especially when there's only 9 replies to read.
Thanks Teliko. I was using korean sounds for a while but then i couldn't resist getting the old overmind sounds in scII. For anyone interested, the sound pack was posted somewhere in the SCII customization thread where Teliko delivered loads as well.
Did this ages ago, if you just replace the individual ones and not the tassadar or w/e then you still get english voice telling you things like "we are under attack" while having cool korean unit sounds

You can try using the other method people are posting, but I'm looking around as we speak for the thread someone posted a while ago which no longer works. He posted voice packs for every language, so I might be able to get them working again if I can work out why they stopped working in the first place.

Ok, found the thread and took a look at the files. The reason the old method of audio language swapping stopped working was because the uploads he provided were for the entire enGB.SC2Assets instead of just the sounds. Whenever a patch is released, other parts of this MPQ also get updated but because a different language MPQ was being used, it was unable to do so. I extracted the 'Sounds' only part of the MPQ and uploaded it individually.
This has all the Russian audio, replace it just as instructed with the Korean audio.
If anyone is interested in using a different language again, let me know and I'll post it then. I have 20kb/s upload speed so I won't be uploading them any time soon unless people actually ask for them, otherwise I'll probably upload one per night or something.
On July 13 2011 15:48 Quochobao wrote: Thanks for the help!
Is it possible that you can swap the language via something similar as well?
There was a link posted somewhere earlier in the thread about another method, but it requires you to download an extra 900mb and to run the Repair.exe every time a new patch is released.

Many people have attempted posting it on the official bnet forums and I've no idea why. It's against the ToS and that's that. Don't expect to get a blue post saying "It'll be fine, go ahead!"

Just a few last questions, when a patch hits do we need to redownload a new version of the sound pack? Does this affect campaign too?(I kinda want to see how the campaign is in other languages )

Yes, I've been using various kinds of MPQ edits for about 5 months now. No, when a new patch comes out you're audio should be fine. It doesn't affect the campaign. I'm guessing the other method posted will, seeing as you have to download so much more, but if you do that, you have to run repair.exe whenever a patch is released.
I wonder if it'd be too much to ask Blizzard to ask for a language selection option no matter what server you play on. I have friends that speak Korean that would prefer that option but would still rather play on the US server.
very cool, but I really use the voices to let me know whats going on, if they start speaking in korean I probably will have less game sense. I also play zerg and there isn't any korean version of my units except a minor few. There is the queen narrator but I already replaced that with the overmind from SC1 and I enjoy it a lot.

Do what I do, manually change all the units, but the commentator.
for anyone wonder wheater or not you can change it back even if you didn't backup your files if you just uninstall and reinstall sc2 you'll be fine
also, i dont have a engb file i do have a enus file tho i'm pretty sure they're the same thing but in en us the folders and files arn't named once you upon the mpq editor

Localization file names were also explained in the OP, and I don't think people are going to want to uninstall their entire client just to get English audio again. I'll be uploading an English download at some point in the near future anyway.

More to come in the next few days, I just broke my default SC2 when I was working on these, so I need to get my own back first -_

If you could provide the Spanish pack, I'd love you long time.
edit- Could you theoretically mix and match multiple many languages with different voice commands? I'd imagine you could have Protoss speaking Korean and Terran speaking English. Or even match the files to have a Marine switching between languages depending on if you issue an attack move or simple move command.

Yes, it's totally possible. Just open the Sounds folder for two different languages and navigate to whichever unit you want to make language specific and replace whichever commands you want with the file from the other language with the exact same name.
o.O Im tempted to try this; given the other method (the 1gb of DL one) keeps reverting to english > Just a bit tentative on CHANCE of being banned... lol
Awesome I will deffinitly screw around with it later. No real reason to do it, but it will be fun ;P. I'm tempted to put it in Polish so I can feel just like White-ra.

Hey Teliko, i downloaded the soundpack and MPQ editor, i replaced the standard sound pack with the korean one of yours, but when i tried a match, there was no sound, nothing. What can i do , because i really want the korean sound pack? I have backed -up my enGB.SC2ASSETS so everything is restored.
I think that's everything. If I've left any out, lemme know.

This happened to a friend of mine also. I told him to just try again incase he did something wrong the first time, and well, he did. He's not sure what he did, something about extracting one folder inside of another, I don't know. Try again and be sure it's the Sounds folder inside the zip file that's replace the sounds folder inside the mpq.
nvm, it works now ! first i dragged the korean sound pack @ mpq editor. but that didnt work. Then i just revmoved the whole sound english sound pack and copy paste the korean sound pack and now it works :D thank you !
Hey there first of all, you sir deserve so much, great thanks ! ♥ Here's my problem now, everything is working fine ( went from french version to english audio fullowing your instructions) and I noticed that every unit works but one: The immortal, who's responding in french ( like originally) while every other is good. Anything i could have done wrong ?

I'm sorry, but Macs aren't my thing. I've never even seen the Mac MPQ editor. The fact it associates an mpq with an image is a bad start already. Try MPQ Extractor which is another piece of mac mpq software someone was mentioning.
I had a problem with none of my units with speech even make sounds, (probes made sounds, but zealots and nexus never talked [ex. movement and not enough minerals sound]); I was hoping this thread would fix the problem for me.
I was looking at my dir/Liberty.SC2Mod folder and I have enUS.SCAssets (about 50MB) and enUS.SCAssetsorig (about 350 MB). SCAssets only has unit dds files in Assets\Textures, while SCAssetsorig has Localized\Facial, Localized\Sounds, dds files for billboards, and introduction videos for each race. Is this normal? Could someone post a list of what their enUS.SCAssets look like and it's size?
I renamed SCAssetsorig to SCAssets, the sounds came back and the game runs fine, but I'm wondering if the unit texture dds files from the 50MB SCAssets file will matter somehow.
Edit: Another problem I have is that when I localize to another version, the sounds don't work anymore. Is it because of the different language SCAssets? (ex. enUS.SCAssets is used for US and zhTW.SCAssets is used for TW)
I'm going to try to run a repair tonight and get everything as stock as possible and see if this fixes more problem of having SCAssetsorig and SCAssets.

I've no idea where you got SCAssetsorig from, I've never even heard of it. I've a feeling what happened is you were following instructions of a guide from somewhere and someone said SC2assets orig as in original, supposedly meaning a backed up or unmodified copy, and this somehow got mixed into the name? Have you followed any tutorials for mods involving your enUS.SC2Assets recently?
Ahh, figured it out. My problem was that I was using your Color Mod and put it into the Liberty folder instead of the LibertyMulti. I must have created a back up of the original because it asked me to overwrite. I fixed this by moving the Color Mod into the LibertyMulti folder then modifying the original to add sound.
Also a note, if you are using the Localizer bat file, and you want to have the sounds cross region, you also have to edit the MPQ for that region. (eg. Modifying enUS.SCAssets will only work on enUS. If you localize to zhTW, you also have to modify zhTW.SCAssets.)
Side question: If I wanted to use the Dark Stalker model, I would just add it into the MPQ file inside of the ColorMod in LibertyMulti, right? Is there a mod for all Dark Protoss units? Like in the one mission where the Protoss units are corrupted by the Hybrid.

Thank you Teliko for releasing your great mods.
The stronger team colours mod is Pzeas, not mine. And I'm not sure what localizer batch you're talking about. If you're referring to the client relocalizer, that's not mine either. The mod in this thread only changes the spoken language of the actors in the game and won't require renaming any assets files.
Instructions on installing the Dark Stalker should be in Pzeas thread somewhere. I can't tell you how to go about it because I don't know if he had a texture or an entirely new model. Best to go check out his thread. He could indeed have made other dark Protoss units, but I really don't know. I'm sure all the info you need will be in his thread :D

I ended up figuring it out with the help of one of my friends. If you're using a mac, first you have to download MPQ Extractor and DropMPQ. Then go to the enUS.SC2Assets file and open it with MPQ Extractor. A folder called enUS should appear in the liberty.SC2mod folder right above the original enUS.SC2Assets file. Drag the enUS folder onto you desktop. Then open the folder containing your desired sounds and use the contents to replace the contents of the old sound folder found in the folder LocalizedData inside the enUS you just put on your desktop (NOTE: if you are lazy and simply replace the old sound folder with the new it will not work. You must keep the old/original sound folder and replace all its contents.) Then open up DropMPQ and drop the now edited enUS folder into it. A .mpq file should appear on your desktop. Change the extension of the .mpq file to .SC2Assets. Replace the old enUS.SC2Assets file in the liberty.SC2 mod with the new one on your desktop and you should be good to go. If you are confused about where some of these files are located I wrote this post assuming everyone had already read Teliko's OP, so you might want to try giving that a read.+ Show Spoiler +
Thanks again Teliko for the sound files and all your help!
I followed all your steps, but now my units don't make any sounds. There is still 'neutral' sounds like when I click on a CC, but no unit response noises.
Can anyone help?

Hey. I am on EU playing with KOR sounds. Works fine for me, no issues. Once u figure out how to replace the files with the MPQ editor, it's quite easy. And I have a backup of my original sounds just in case. Def. recommend! U feel like a KOR pro :D
Sorry to bring this back, but after patch 1.5 the game started to complain about the language (I have a US game with ptBR sounds). I changed the variables.txt file so it would work (changed fromk ptbr to ensg), but lost the ptbr sounds. Is there any way to make it work again?

Thanx XD
no. Patch 1.5 doesnt allow mpq modding of any sort.

After dragging the sound file in to the mpq to replace it, Mpq editor tells me that there is not enough space on the disk, even when i have over 100 GB spare of both C and D drive. Any solutions to this problem?? I desperately want this to work
