Boy do I have a treat for you! Long story short, I recently rediscovered some old uncompressed video on my harddrive, in a folder called "Estars" Turns out that it had been footage I fraps'd in 2009 of Tasteless and Artosis casting CS at Estars Seoul. I never uploaded it originally because I didn't have video from the whole match, but after seeing how much the community enjoyed other ESPORT archive videos, I started to upload it to YT. That was over a month ago, and this is the final result.
Despite being self-admitted bad CS casters, Tasteless and Artosis still bring their very distinct style to this commentary, and there is no time like the present to share this archive footage with the community.
Some notes about the video, the quality is pretty much as is, the stream quality wasn't great at the event, but this is a marked improvement on the WC3 video that is currently out for the event (which is due to change in the near future). The gun fire can be really quite loud at times as well.
Oh man the memories. Prior to my discovery of watching BW, CS was all I played and watched. This being casted by tastosis makes it even a better memory
Haha this was pretty funny, I get the impression they don't know what to say for the most part of the commentating but thats ok, we still love you tasteosis!
They look so..... weird, casting in normal day shirts and not those suits they wear at GSL and MLG. Not a fan of FPS games though, will continue to watch because they are awesome!!
It seems like they either followed the scene or did research on the teams and stuff before they casted, something which casters seem to forget about in a lot of eSports. Despite not being Counterstrike casters, it's clear they didn't half ass it.

No seriously this is weird.
Is this what commentating CS is like? I would never have thought to watch people play a FPS.
Are you trying to troll djWheat?
A close TDM Quake game can be just as exciting to watch and listen to as Starcraft, especially with multiple overtimes. A 4k vs Dignitas TDM final comes to mind, even though it was Quake 4.
Not sure about CS, Halo etc but Quake team play is generally awesome, just a shame it's mainly 1v1's nowadays which is pretty dull imo.
this is painful to watch only because it is very clear how clueless they are. as a once avid competitive cs player, they don't give this game justice as they cast.

This is the perfect example that you need more than good casting skills to cast a game really well, you need very good game knowledge and knowledge of the scene. They do know some basic counter-strike I can tell that from the cast but it's obvious that there is alot they don´t know about the game and how to cast it, what different areas on the map are called for example.
Not bad for two SC2 commentators, to be honest if I watched this back when I mostly played CS and hadn´t heard of tastosis I would have flamed these casters for sure(I have known about them as long as they have casted though) :p

Keep in mind that they're still in BW at this point, and further when you look at their development as casters they've really progressed the most in terms of crispness and ability in the last 8 months than the years before.
I think Artosis has mentioned on SOTG a few times that he's been into CS a bit, so he seems to anchor this cast down to acceptable levels. Seems like Tasteless has less interest.
They seem to have a good sense of how things work, but they're just so bland because there's not nearly as much going on CS as there is in SC. If they knew terminology used in the scene, it'd be a lot better. Really cool seeing my favorite casters commentating the game I came from after years and years of competitive play.
This is very funny, I love them in Starcraft, but being a forever in love with CS I must say, with all the love in my hearth, they suck at it :D Very funny to watch, it's funny how missing the specific "lingo" can change the experience of watching the game. Imagine GSL with synonyms of words like harassment, ramp, base, choke etc.
Nice find, I'm sure I was cursing at the time about how bad the commentating was
I wonder if they'll be at E-Stars 2011? Although I know initially they were not going to have any Blizzard games due to the lawsuits etc, but now that it's sorted out I wonder if SC2 will be at E-Stars 2011.
Oh man, I thought the infamous highlights vid of their WC3 casting was gold, yet seeing the entire thing is also hilarious. Tastosis is truly something else.
Tastosis showing some CS knowledge Nice vid, but ye i guess they just did that since they were the only English speaking casters on that event. I think its really hard to cast something like CS compared to RTS game, you really need to crack up team strategy because if not the only thing you'll able to be exited are the headshots.

bring cs back =( people still play on esea but its just not the same. here's an example of a good counter-strike cast http://tv.esl.eu/de/vod/21883 ff to 16:00 for the game to start
such a shame that most SC2 players don't know about the foundation of North American eSports. CS brought mass appeal to competitive gaming for a lot of North American players when Korean esports was a bit of a mystery to the West still. Nothing in the last 10 years comes close to the team play fps competitiveness that Counter-Strike contains. I know the Team Liquid founders don't have any privy to CS, and understandably so, it was the rock hard pinnicle of North American eSports while they were trying to build a name for themselves in a much less known Starcraft North American competitive scene. Don't believe me? Go look at the 2005 US WCG qualifier footage of day9, tasteless, and Artosis with virtually no spectators. In 2005 CS was bringing huge crowds and huge prize pots. Just this year has starcraft started to overcome CS prize pots world wide, even counting Korea.
But as a community of esports supporters we have to realize we need BOTH starcraft for the RTS competitive game, and CS as the Fps competitive game to gain any type of mainstream appeal of esports as a whole in North America. Hopefully after VALVe releases their first truly esports focused title, DOTA 2, (cs 1.6 was still a mod that they couldn't change drastically when they acquired it, and CS: Source was NOT competitively focused.) they realize how they have a great competitive niche title in Counter-Strike. We can thank IceFrog in DOTA 2 being esports focused because he has final say in all matters and understanding what competitive players want.

You are seriously over looking the Fighting Genre, and the 1v1 DM Genre, both of which, not only had better and more consistent Americans than CS and BW, was primarily focused in America, unlike BW and CS. So maybe you should look at your own ignorance before claiming other people arent "privy" to it.
Lol. They definitely don't know what to say. They also have a much different style than I think a standard CS caster might have. They are talking about strategy most of the time, but for CS I would expect play-by-play casting.
