Great coverage. Really looking forward to what they have in store.

The strangest thing to me was the reaction I got when they talked about collecting DNA from Yetis. Brought back memories of WoW...

WoL was not 1/3 of a game, its like saying Star Wars: A New Hope was only 1/3 of a movie...it was one game in what amounts to a trilogy. They use the term expansion, but SC1 and BW were two different games pretty much.

Yes, but the two games in terms of content were enough to be considered two games in their own right. Two different campaigns, new units, new custom maps. There was some overlap with regards to returning old units, but BW, did more then just put icing on the cake so to speak.

I disagree with the marketplace just being an idea to milk the franchise for more money. I just think the whole marketplace will grow the custom map community to new heights, which I am really excited about (in addition to new melee multiplayer changes).


Yeah, just like half the apps in the apple app store isn't abandonware put out there to earn a quick buck with a quanitity over quality mindset.

No, what this will lead to is mapmakers making more maps and not supporting them, so they can earn more money. Right now you can easily copy and rerelease someone else's work. How do they plan on fixing that? Are mapmakers going to have to buy a copy in every region to put their work in every region? What about offshoots? You can't sell a metal slug hommage custom map, that's copyright infringement. Who are they going to pay to sift through these maps?

Honestly, I doubt the feature will even release. There's way too many technical difficulties for the feature.

I hadn't realized that they'd be removing units from multiplayer as well a adding. Very interesting...

Guessing the overseer gets the axe, but I wonder which Terran and Protoss units will go away as well.

The game seems to have one new element for multiplayer at least. WoL introduced destructable rocks that allows for new passages once destroyed. It seems HotS will allow for destructable paths and floors that will instead do the opposite, remove a path if destroyed. As seen on 0:50 and 0:55 in the video.
I can no longer rest under the tree of wisdom, since you have axed down the roots feeding it.

That's why Blizzard is such an awesome game producing company.
This phylosophy should apply for the whole gaming industry but profits discourage that attitude i guess.

Fiddling with numbers is not going to make these units more interesting.
The colossus/reaver differences are often given as an example.

Well it's good to hear the the Overseer is getting the boot. Now they should really try to redesign the Corruptor, Roach, Thor, Marauder, and Colossi. Incredibly boring units. That's probably just me dreaming though. Realistically I'd expect the Reaper and Mothership to get axed/redesigned.

Take off the blinders ffs. They just don't want to commit to a deadline and be burdened with the expectations of meeting it. With this rosy little twist, they can delay their product as long as they please and everyone will encourage them for it.

Awesome write up!

Anyone else see the potential of Raptors in multiplayer? (should they get into multiplayer) Imagine if they can jump over Force Fields or cliffs (ie Hunterlings in the Left 2 Die custom map)
