I don't know if people are trolling in this thread... I hope they are.

People pretend like in every game somebody pauses. For every 5 hours of ladder I play, I maybe have to wait 2 minutes while somebody needs a pause.
I had a good night of sleep.

what is the problem if you have to go, then go. If he is a bad mannered dude that just snaps right back into the game then let him do it and just leave the game if you feel it sets you back.

I personally just type "p" and pause it. It gives just a inch of respect to the opponent and then "brb 2 sec" into the standard transition "thx, ready?" then go.

...and yes it can be frustrating as hell when some one pauses especially in team games like 4v4 or 3v3 i just instant unpauses, that 7-5 people should sit and wait is unacceptable. In 1v1 i am mannered as long as the other part is mannered as well, if not sneaky unpause into win.

I had someone pause each time I attacked yesterday, which is fine and I let him because it was clear I would win each fight. However he didn't take the time to gg and instead ranted on imbalance after I had taken 3 minutes of my time to deal with his problems...pretty sure he was just trolling, kinda sad =(

If they don't bother explaining, or don't give a good reason, then I unpause.

If you aren't focused on the game, you shouldn't be playing it anyways.

If you do not let someone pause if he asks your a dick imo. Like you never have to pause the game yourself. Yesterday I asked someone if I could pause to open the door. He says ok, waits 10 sec, and unpause. That was the biggest retard I have ever seen on Starcraft. I was shocked he could live with being himself, I would feel awful.

i can't say that i have experienced this, several times i've paused to do something like go to the bathroom, but with asking before (don't think i've been denied more than once, out of 50 + times) but i allways write "gl hf" at the eginning of every game and as i said, when i pause i either ask before pausing if i have the time or i explain it as soon as i paused and when i unpause i allways ask if he's rdy and joking about it. but yeah, i constantly pause like for 1-2 minutes atleast and quite often to really go to the bathroom even if it's like 50 sec into the game and only one time out of like 100 it's been like np. I think i differs from leauge to leauge aswell, i play in masters and players there probably play to learn, not to cheese themselves higher up the ladder.

I've had a ladder game where I asked if I could pause to use the restroom real quick. He said 'sure' so I paused and as soon as I got up from my chair he had unpaused. Suffice to say I had to hold in my pee and proceed to roflstomp and teach him a lesson about polite manners.

I hope you spammed him with something like
" How can you live with being yourself? How do you get up in the morning and look in the mirror?"

I personally just dislike when people pause without saying anything like even "pp" for pause please is pretty standard. But it's kind of bullshit to mess up someone else's rhythm without giving them even a seconds worth of warning.

It is kind of sad to see how many people just cant understand that you need a short break irl, i mean what does it cost you other than 60sec? Quite a shame i think how selfish people seem to be and are unpausing just to get a free win. I can completely understand if someone just pauses and you instantly resume but if there is a good reason you should give them some time.

Just do what you want but once there will come a time where YOU need to pause so be aware of the fact that others then might not pause for you.

Unless I know the guy I'm playing or played him often I will always unpause. I just can't be arsed to wait for some random guy on the internet. Only twice have I had to go to the bathroom badly when I'm already in a game and both times I just left the game.

I don't understand how it's bad mannered to not want to wait for you, for all I know you could say 2 sec and I sit there 2 minutes+ with no answear.

*If you've been cheesy as fuck, it's getting unpaused.

*If the game is very clearly over, it's getting unpaused.

*If you smack talked in any way, it's getting unpaused.

*If it's the middle of a game deciding battle, it's getting unpaused (especially if their army is micro oriented and they can greatly benefit from the pause).

Otherwise have at it, i'll wait.

just ask if you need to pause quickly.

if something extremely important that needs urgent attention comes up, then i would rather the person leave. a game on the ladder should not be the focus at the time for them if its that important. (this is assuming they didn't ask beforehand)

courtesy is something i highly respect

You know instead of starting your next game, you could use that in between time to go to the bathroom as opposed to pausing 50 seconds into the game. Pausing 100 times throughout all the games you've played is a little ridiculous

Is there money on the line for the game? Yes/no
Do you really need to go? Yes/no (90%+ of phone calls can be ignored for the game duration.)

If both aren't yes you can just leave the game or play on. No need to pause. If both are no, then why do you even want to pause?

If you are polite I won't un-pause, otherwise I think you should just leave the game. It is 1v1 without money on the line. Just move on, no stress about fixing things quickly that way.

I never get into a situation where I need to pause in a ladder game. If I get a phonecall, I ignore it and call back after the game, If I am expecting visitors I will not ladder (and i'll ignore the door if I am not expecting people), although I cannot comment on having a child cry as I do not have one.

Random pauses are annoying and can throw people off their game. I am not one to unpause, but I do find it rude in that I can set aside some time to get my IRL stuff sorted for a session of ladder games, and my opponant doesn't have the foresight to do the same.

I like this. I'm kind of the same way, I never allow for anything to interrupt me other than the dire need to go to the bathroom, or anything emergency-related that I can't wait around for.

And you don't understand people on the other side of it. What if the opponent has to leave in 20ish minutes so he decides to ladder one game. Now you've paused the game, which could potential make him late for his appointment.

I believe the only legit pauses are hardware issues. Need to go to the bathroom? Hold it, you could've gone before you clicked Find Match. Phone call? You can call back

For some reason I feel this is directed to me. Yesterday in a teamgame someone just paused the game, so I waited a few seconds and unpaused. Edit: this was literally at the start where you can actually fumble around. Few moments later he got all mad and I got mad in return. Turns out it was my teammate.

The thing here is that I really don't mind waiting a bit, as long as you are human about it. If you can press F10 + P or Pause Break, you can also press 1 sec, wait, moment, phone, sec, pause, pp, brb anything to show that you are actually a human being that is aware he is pausing. As long as you do that, I don't mind and I think it's stupid when people unpause then, unless it takes really long.

Sometimes my keyboard screws up(F U Razer Lycosa) and I have to pause it with the mouse. People relly are impatient and will unpause it.... Makes me rage every time. It's never a situation I'm intending to do by pausing and making them wait. It's an unexpected issue I have to address and I really wish more people were more considerate about it. I pause for a reason.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
