Stop derailing the thread with the damn Pepsi logo talk. It's the Korean flag. Further derailment will be met with moderation. |

But what the problem is, is that these accounts are used daily by all kinds of people, so the MMR is all over the place. I think they are going to introduce a new league for these accounts, which will most likely be unrated or rated differently.
As why the achievements appear on the EU/NA servers too? I guess they want to keep all servers consistent, content wise, because that would be easier to maintain than all kinds of different configurations. (From a technical point of view)
Nah, SC2 isnt expensive really - but if you take SC1, as long as the PC Bang had SC1 installed you could just go there and make a new account for free in 5 seconds and play, whereas now you have such a hassle with creating a new account and associating it with your SSN etc...
I guess people feel its a lot different to do this type of thing for an RTS over an MMORPG. It definitely cuts down a lot on the random 'hey lets try SC2?'.

Jinro can you tell us anything about what these "IGR"achievements are supposed to be about? What is a IGR game and how does it differ from a normal game? Do you need a special account or just your regular account? And what is the point of adding these achievements?

Yeah, that's what this whole thread is about. I don't know that I'd go as far to say it's a LAN implementation though, because it doesn't really add up. If anything, it sounds like accounts that are flagged as IGR accounts will get additional rewards (portraits and achievements) by just playing on the ladder.

But that doesnt really explain why they would show up on NA servers. Just an interesting note, there are 6 "reward stars" and 6 new (recolored) portraits.

So, why would Korean gamers need their own logo for a league, unless Blizzard is going to integrate everyone, and that will be the way to distinguish the Korean progamers, but that idea doesn't seem likely at all

Is Bear Grylls also sponsoring this?

I see, in china the panda is special, Just like the UD in WoW that they needed to cut for the china release, its the same, theyve clearly replaced the panda icon for china.

The IGR portraits have dissapeared from the NA server.

Ah okay, so it pretty much is what we thought. Play in PC Baangs, get portraits. I don't know how it distinguishes PC Baang accounts from home user accounts, but that's just my unfamiliarity with the system.

I feel a bit slighted that they have options that are unavailable to us
I suppose I would never go to an internet cafe to play SC when I could just play it at home anyways tho.
I dont understand why koreans would go play in a cafe when they can play at home too though
Would like to see blizzard monitorize this soemhow.. like.. they issue special licenses to the PC Bangs and they get $0.20 per hour played from the owners of it. Different types of licenses would allow users to quickly create a new id (or log on with an existing one) - or simply play as a guest if they want to play customs.
Monitorization from blizzard would result in them giving more attention to the game and making it better for everyone

SC:BW's popularity in SK exploded because of PC bangs. It's how it all started. BW history yo.

not every korean has a balla computer to play sc2 on it, so they go to PCBangs. Also its a good place to hang and meet people afaik

I dont understand
Why would anyone want to play in an internet cafe when they could play at home?
Do people not have home computers in Korea?

I don't see why I would play at home when I can play at a pcbang with friends and not be hassled by parents
Not exactly my point of view since I live alone in the US where these places don't really exist, but a huge reason why sc1/bw got big was that people hang out at pcbangs as a social thing. Your comment is like saying why should I go watch a movie at a theater with friends when I can watch it for free/better audio/no crappy audience/whatever else at home.
And don't forget getting away from parents...

Why are they on NA/EU then? I mean, if you go to KR and play at a PC Bang it's not going to be on any server except KR

Do people not have home computers in Korea? Koreans are more about social gaming (i.e. going out with friends to play) than in NA, where people sit by themselves at home and talk through headsets. Just social differences, is all. You'll find this trend a lot when comparing East and West social trends; West tends to be more independent/individual.
