MLGs format is not suited to people outside NA or who don't attend every one of their tournaments because the seeding process for the Top 16 makes it impossible for those players to place outside of the top 24, and almost guaranteeing their seeding for the next event etc. The Korean players meanwhile will have to go through a tiring open bracket for a day and a half. Assuming they do make it through (not a given, there are other good players in the open brackets) they then have to play against the best foreigners back to back in 4 Bo3s and THEN play through the rest of the double elim bracket, all for a first place prize of a few thousand, to barely make up the plane and accomodation costs. It's not impossible, Naniwa did just that last tournament, but even the best players will lose sometimes. I just feel bad that the Koreans will turn up and get so little reward out of it. well all the top players are usually seeded, so i think they will easily blast through the open bracket. though they have to play alots of games, im sure that doesnt bother them because they are professionals. not much rewards but im sure they are just trying to get into the national championship

All they need to do in the GSL is ride the subway to GOMtv studio and play 2 or 3 games. That's all. It cost nothing, whereas traveling to MLG would cost 10k for a team of 4 players.

I think winning money is a big part of going to MLG, but I also think (as has been mentioned before) that there is also a lot of value in developing highly competitive tournament experience. And with the GSL basically being all that there is in South Korea, successful pro teams may see that 10k as an investment in promising players to develop the experience and stability to perform well in tournaments like the GSL. It also gets players outside of Korea and opens them up to the foreign SC2 scene, which I think is going to play a larger role down the line when compared to BW.

Let's hope they've learned from all the problems they had in Dallas. (ensuring stable internet, stable stream but also having a decent schedule for the players) On May 12 2011 16:52 omegan wrote: agree. Think of it that way: the moment they manage to finish high and get a good seed in the next tournament, it might become a lucrative investment from then on.

Most definitely, still should be very good competition and I'm excited to see how well they can do in the MLG format where a majority of english speaking players complained about not even knowing when they were going to play due to the horrible scheduling.

Games won't be played during MLG and I think if GOM is in partnership with MLG, I would think they would reschedule matches for players leaving and coming back from MLG. So it could still be Super Tournament players.
