That's great news imho. One more event where the regional boundaries are undone, and more and more players from every background and country compete with each other. Maybe some day the whole Korea vs Rest of the World debate will be gone as well (I wish for that!).
I just love video games, what's your excuse?

You do realize by finishing in top whatever in SC2 you qualify for the championship which is worth a whole bunch more money? Plus, I think MLG pays travel stipends for top 8 or 16 players also.

Surprised no one considered Jinro as being a possibility in this announcement. I don't see him staying in Korea any longer, and he would fall under "special guest from Asia".

Yeah, him writing in this very forum that there's no way he's gonna leave Korea doesn't matter?

Soon euros won't have to fly to America to participate in MLG.

lol ? why so pathetic ? naniwa can beat any korean same for thorzain, i think MC and ACE are the only dangerous

True enough the chances of foreigners beating Koreans are slim at best, but in order for foreigners to close the skill gap they'll have to compete with Koreans and adjust to their play. By isolating the foreign scene it'll always be way behind, simply because the Korean scene is more developed and has a much better practice environment.

Wow that's awesome. Helps improve the prestige of MLG tournaments even more, and we now get to see some foreign vs korean games whose validity isn't undermined by latency issues.

Why do people keep beating the dead horse about latency

ive been pretty quiet around here lately but i saw this and wanted to comment just briefly on the koreacyntric viewpoint from which this article was written:

While it is nice to see that some foreigners will be competing at MLG Columbus Im saddened to see that hidden deep within the anouncement is a shocking a horrible truth about the author and many many south koreans no doubt

GSL made openings for MLG

Not enough time for them to travel I think. I would think the Koreans that will be going to MLG are the ones that got knocked out or the ones that arent in the top 64.

I hope the koreans are actually good instead of random mediocre players who are korean. This isn't BW where even B team scrubs dominate the best foreigners... unless you're one of the best koreans (Marineking, nestea, mvp, MC etc) then you aren't much better than anyone else (if even)

may as well have got more European players if you're going to do that, its expensive as hell to fly over there

i dont have any interest in a bunch of no name koreans

Then he doesn't get to watch MLG. The purpose of 'hopes' and feedback in general is to create an ideal situation where this is not the case. And I, too, hope that the korean players can provide good games.

MLG isn't flying the Koreans over. It is the Korean teams/sponsors. They aren't going to spend all that money to fly over some no-name player unless that no-name player decides to just enter and pay his own way.

Although I'd be surprised if it was the TOP players, I don't see why it wouldn't be known and respected players since it makes no sense for a team to fly some scrub player over. Perhaps boxer?

wow the news about the partnership with streamworks is much more exciting to me than the one about koreans attending (which is obviously great as well).

at least now we can hope to be able to see the matches live! :D that's a step in the right direction MLG, rock on!
