Dude's 27 and owns the richest team in SC2. Look, kid, being condescending doesn't make you look smart. I know he's 27 and thats why i can call him a kid and owning a team doesn't mean he knows whats journalism and whats not. He can speak his mind about it but everyone in the world can call him out for it cause his opinion isn't more legit then the hobo on the corner of my street. The fact he runs and owns a successful team is irrelevant to that manner. All his questions and complains were all about how it was hurting his business, which again have nothing to do with journalism itself. Not to mention he attacked (he even threatened him publicly to basically ban him, yeah..... ) Slasher personally on a subject he has nothing to do with. It was not about the news it self, its all about how Slasher steals the spotlight... Bullshit, when information gets leaked, the team or player or what or who ever has nothing to do with it anymore. It's not longer their information. You never tell someone how he should do his job when you dont have shit to do with it, especially when you do something else for a living. That it affects you or your business is still not a legit reason to call someone out for it and attack him. Just like Slasher shouldn't tell Incontrol how to play against who ever in a SC2 match, how ridiculous would that be if Incontrol has to defend his play to Slasher.... It's the same thing, Slasher can give his opinion but how hard would everyone laugh when he would ask questions and attack a player publicly live on a show? Right..... It's all bullshit like so many things that come on on these 'Reddit' shows. Alright, by that logic, you can't tell Alex what he should do since you're not a team owner. Comparing his opinion to that of a hobo is ridiculous. In his several years of running his team, I'm sure he has a large amount of experience working with the media and therefore has a good idea of how journalism works. "doesn't have shit to do with it"? Alex's team is directly affected by Slasher's journalism.
Well you wont see me on ITG calling in on skype and telling Alex Garfield how he should run his team cause i dont know shit about it and i have nothing to do with it. And no it's not ridiculous to compare his opinion to a hobo. Dealing with media doesn't mean your the one to tell a journalist how he should do his job and what journalism is and whats not, a hobo can do the same thing and both opinions would be the same, bullshit. There is no such thing as 'this is how journalism works or should work' there aren't any rules or what ever, a journalist does his thing and it works for him or it doesn't.
EG might be affected when Slasher brings something but again, no they dont have shit to do with how or when Slasher brings a story/news. Their involvement in the story/news etc stopped when the information got from them to Slasher, just like Slasher has nothing to do with if and how a story affects a business or what ever.

EG live in their own little fantasy land, where everyone is in the wrong except them - no surprise there. 100% behind Slasher here.

Was kind of on Slasher side when the debated started, but he lost me with his lack of really anything... he couldn't rebute or even reply to anything that was put to him...
And I have to agree with nearly everything Alex G. said, though the leakes are partly his fault, leaks are leaks and for Slasher to totally burn all the contacts he has is just stupid and short sighted. The best comparison I can make is probally Gizmodo vs The Verge, Gizmodo ceneters around breaking news and its articals are trash, The Verge breaks news but it also has really pretty amazing and epic articals on many diffrent parts of technology. Slasher is deffintally in the Gizmodo side of the fence and 'eSports' is so much smaller than 'tech' that once you burn a few people and get a bad rep amoung those that matter... the rest isn't important and slowly and surly (like Gizmodo) you get pushed out of events and your ability to just report flash news is totally removed... and then there isn't anything thats actually left for you to do.
|
Definetly behind Slasher for DOING HIS JOB... I mean i dont even know how to reply to Alex's remarks. Its mind boggling. Who does that now a days? Tries to silence freedom speech. Its 2013 for crying out load.
I wont be drinking monster anymore thats for sure. Thx Alex for saving me that expense.

Just listened to final thoughts and Idra actually made sense. However, it's Slashers choice to be a lazy shit-journalist or what ever they wanna call him. You can't censor media.

It doesn't seem like they want to censor the media, they're just tired of Slasher breaking THEIR news before they're ready to. I think that the teams are completely within their rights to avoid any contact with Slasher if they want.
He's welcome to pursue other sources and work on stories from different angles, but if teams aren't happy with how he's using information they give him they're completely within their right to not give him information any more. They don't owe him anything.
It would be a completely different issue if they were trying to get his articles banned or censored but a group of teams refusing to cooperate with a particular journalist because of a bad history is hardly "censoring" the media.
|
It would be interesting to see what Nazgul is more annoyed about; The Snute leak or the fact that his opinion on the matter got "leaked" (presuming that he didn't allow for it) by Alex on the show. We'll probably never know because he seems to be someone who understands that doing/ saying nothing is often the best in these situations.

Alex G. dsn't want to 'censor the media' becasue that wouldn't make any sense, but this is a small industry so instead of Slashers lazy reports only hurting he can't understand why he isn't a little more compitent and actually do his job better. Slashers job isn't simply to only report the very latest cutting edge news if that then pissess everyone off and screws with his sources, becasue at the moment, thats all he is.

@Achaia you have a good point. But i personally wouldnt have reacted so strongly against Alex if he clearly out of personal spite went out of his way to screw Slashers career.

this shit is just ignorant. i don't know who alex is, never heard of him, but if he is in charge of TL, now is see why the team goes nowhere. A Team owner who relies on web journalism to survive provides no team at all. Hes relying on journalism to keep a team alive? Idra was right. In real sports team DON"T rely on breaking the news of A-Rods signing. You know why? Because they're a team and teams have nothing to do with journalism. You can't survive that way. Making money for a team has nothing to do with journalism. IN FACT Journalism is a whole different field all together. So don't question the intentions of a man who do does his job, and does it well. If you broke, as a team owner maybe you should, idk, get the basics of the business down. In sports players need to fill the seats. Thats how they make money to cover expensive. YOUR players fill the seats right? You guys can fill venues. So wheres your money? Your players fill venues, bring mass publicity to these tournament but get no money. Why? You're not even getting paid the most basic aspects of any business. Probably also the reason TL relies so heavily on journalism done by not a real journalist (according to state of the game).
SLASHER DID NOT LEAK ANYTHING. HE'S A JOURNALIST. JOURNALISTS DON'T LEAK, THEY REPORT. SO WHO TOLD THE REPORTER....ALEX? and yes i would appreciate you answering this. Hopefully YOU didn't leak the info to a reporter and then publicly slander and make continuous attempts to and threaten to conspire to ruin his career.
First off Slasher doesn't work for TL, so how do you even tell him where, when, and how to do his job? I thought TL was a team, but they're arguing about a journalist doing his job? Is it another journalist? NO. Someone with no credibility in the field crying because they has some "news" that they wanted to put out first.
Hey Alex, in the next tournament don't play one of you best players because STX is trying to promote one of their newer players, and they need him to get wins. So i don't want your players to do their job, because this team over here, right, they trying to build up hype and promote this guy. Alright? You understand right alex? This is your logic. You'd prob say, first off TL players to play for STX. and that would be the end.
Now he's irresponsibly using the power the forum as attained and the state of the game stage to publicly embarrass themselves. Stop threatening a journalist for reporting. No journalist wants to do interviews you idiot. In SC2 that's a 1 base all in. Breaking news is what you wanna get. TV shows stop for breaking news. You EARN that. Then move to live broadcasts.
Here's the real perspective that people should understand. One that prob Slasher fails to see because everyone's lost in between friend and business. Essentially, Alex is asking Slasher, a journalist, not to do his job, because alex wants to be the first one to put the news out. Alex is trying to take food off the plate of a journalist and this guy isn't even a journalist.
TL failed to protect its sensitive information. Information got leaked. Someone needs to be sued. That someone is tied to or employed by TL. AMD is going thru the same thing from leaked sensitive data and are suing some former employees. Leaks are always internal. Journalist dont leak, they report, which in this case happened to be a leak. So go get em Alex. Oh and here's a tip, next time you have a secret...DON"T TELL A JOURNALIST. Kinda like how criminals wont go tell the cops where they gonna rob before they do it, or maybe its more like trying to boil water with ice. mmk?
If you don't know what happened ill sum it up. Alex tried to be a journalist, and lost to a REAL journalist. Alex is crying because he couldn't be the one to be like "FIRST!"
Anyways, up until today, I've never known who alex is, but now that i do, i've lost a lot of respect for TL as an organization and have come to realize, its no organization at all. Its just some child in the background trying to keep a team afloat for his journalism front because once the teams gone, he won't have nothing to write about. If he wasn't on TL, real journalists would rate his work as shit water. And I don't have to read any of your work...your not a journalist, arguing with a journalist about journalism. Go manage your team idiot and stop writing stories or get a job blogging.

I feel like this whole shit has a tag of true proper drama with both side going overboard with their opinions. I think that they are both wrong. EG thinks they can hide the fact that they signed new player when the number of people involved with asking around negotiation etc is incredible, people talk, if not on purpose, they slip up and get partial information. Just like when 2GD said that they new Quantinc dota players are joining TL just because one guy from their team just brought up in conversation "what Razer gear should I get", casually just to know what he should play with. Most of those guys are just kids/teens playing video games for fuck sake, they work hard for it but they don't have strong business ethics etc... Thinking about monetizing announcement in this business is just plain wrong, and sometimes it's just doesn't matter, even without leak, announcement of the announcement usually gives tips to what's up and people click on the news/video link, even if they know what's up. Then there is Slasher, who thinks that news like that is hard core journalism that is like Coca-Cola recipe, only two people know how it's made and they are never in a same place in case they die ! Same principal applies, lots of people now about it and it's not hard to acquire. I lean more towards Slasher in this case but I feel like his position is a bid faulted as well.

imo its understandable why EG/other teams are mad at him and if it goes so far that they will boycott him its in slaher's interest to cooperate in this point. its not like they demand unreasonable things from him.
