I believe it was explained earlier that it was a property already owned by FXO that was mostly sitting unused. It puts them in a timezone fairly close to Korea, and probably with playable ping as well.
Yes, they could have gotten a Korean progaming condo, but they might very well end up paying more than the money saved on airlines for the higher housing costs in Seoul and end up with less living space to boot.
Not really relevant to this thread, but now that FXO has acquired fOu they will also have that property in Korea for any players actively participating in GSL.
