Hey guys after the teasers in the last few weeks we have uploaded a few more photos of the future FXOpen e-Sports team house in Kuala Lumpur as well as some stats and other information that you might be interested in!
The house itself will be vacant as of May 25th this year and renovations will start on the 1st of June in preparation for the conversion. This leaves us with an expected late July or early August occupancy of the house by the FXOpen players who want to be involved.
Details
Size: Over 1000 square metres (~10,000 sq ft) of floor space Rooms: 6 bedrooms, maid's quarters, 4 bathrooms, 1 half bathroom Facilities: 12 metre pool, 1.5m depth, 200km of jungle surrounds, guard's quarters at the front (24/7 guards for FXOBoSs and potential encounter with jungle animals).

Currently the house is occupied but you get a general idea of the size and orientation and what it will look like once it's made more of a home for progamers than a regular family!
I tried uploading by the inbuilt forum system but some pictures were too big and failed. I had the problem where it cut off at first but after a while or a refresh or two it looks fine.

We do business here..... Its affordable, easy and a very heavily invested market.
no lag to any server except the russian server.. I have accounts on all of them. Sometimes can be a small outage if there is a heavy storm.. so maybe once a fortnight.
Malaysia internet is a bit sucky though compare to Europe and Korea but with the lag from SEA server to everywhere else, probably won´t matter too much.

FXOpen is a corporation (some kind of forex trading).
We have owned this house for more than 2 years before we were into e-sports. I was supposed to move into it, however I am just little ole' me.. So I decided to do something constructive with it. Our costs are minimal.

e-Sports website is being made already. We just don't rush things, anyone who has worked with us will tell you that. www.fxdrift.com is another job the developer has done lately. As well as 3 other projects for me right now. Although it is taking time, it will be a good site

I wasn't implying that you should go around and pick up every good player. Obviously team chemistry is important when you have so many people living together, but I'm sure you could use a couple new additions to strengthen the lineup. I doubt that there isn't a single good player that isn't on your team that you do not get along with.
after seeing the pictures of the korean teamhouses i always asked myself, when will teams start to get some more comfortable team houses, sharing bedrooms with 4 people, no privacy etc.. isnt a very good environment for the longer term.

Its not surrounded by jungle. The jungle starts where the street ends.. House is last house on the street. There is a market etc very near by. And we have a driver, and are purchasing a vehicle that can fit the team in it.

Ok, to al lthe people questioning malaysia. I have explained this 1000 times. Malaysia is a home base. Where it brings all players together, and provides greater access to all continents.. Rather than having americans fly to asia, and australians fly to europe so on so forth. Every flies from malaysia, where flight times are relatively OK. At the same time its very close to korea, and any events we host are easily accessible by the entire world.

oh ok didnt see the size, 10k sq feet, thats quite big.. i was quoting 15k rm based on my old place back in kl which was about 5-6k sq feet, wasnt in the slums though, located in a golf and country resort around PJ (Tropicana)...

Beautiful house, feels like a vacation home, stunning. The koreans must be jealous haha. I'm interested to see what it's like for the player to live there and what effect it has on their play. With the ambience, the pool, the nature, the space, good amount of privacy for living with other people etc all combined, it's so positive. I can only imagine waking up, going down the stairs or something and just be in total bliss. Or jump into the pool before dinner after a good practice session. Really sick!

No Ive never played SC2 in Kuala Lumpur. It wouldnt even cross my mind to do so. Unless they have some magical internet in kuala lumpur that transmits faster than light I doubt they ping 50 ms to NA.

Of course there is no such thing as zero lag. That's just a figure of speech. Bnet has inbuilt latency of 125ms ( or was it 150ms)? So zero lag probably mean 125 ms as that's as good as anyone can get. Even if you live next to the server with the most imbalanced internet ever.

Its not like zero lag, but the location itself has playable latency to KR,NA,TW,CN and SEA. Of course SEA is still the best with 50ms ping.. I think they have the best of everything lol

What part of him saying he has tested it did you miss? I know I can play on EU with 0 lag (most of the time), and I'm in NA. Malaysia > NA is not out of the question.
I hope they realize the amount of time and effort that is required to maintain a place like that. They better have some sort of plan or else it wont look like that after 2 months of living there. Other then that sweet place and I hope it all works out for you guys.

Well I am sure you have the jump on a multi million (billion?) dollar company in that case.... I have a feeling that being they are paying A LOT of $ for this, that's one of the first things they tried.
So far FXO has not done one thing that would be described as incompetent or even bad, they have done great things and every decision they make ends with "oh cool", please don't assume a company that is paying thousands of dollars a month in salaries and tens of thousands a month in rent, that has a Porche as their team car did not check the internet on said house, that's just lol.

This isn't a gamer house by definition, it's a compound. I would think that a bunch of dudes would mess a place like this up over time, hopefully they are respectful. FXO is becoming a stronger team, and with things like this, they will start attracting elite players.

Ok,so u think that there is no internet provider in the world that can get u internet strong enough to have 0 lag from NA to KR or other way around... think again. Money can buy all,even 0 latency internet to all 3 servers

What do you want them to do? Trace down every single middle-man ISP, backbones and route nodes and double-check the packages to tell you why exactly they don't experience lag issues?
Reality is, they don't give a darn f as to why it works. They stated connection quality was tested and deemed sufficient to a majority of SC2 servers.

I just played on NA from the house. I am sitting there right now... I had no delay.. The player I played seemed to know who I was.. I had absolutely NO delay what so ever on NA. At the same time, I had the NASL commentary going in the background, and youtube playing frank sinatra...

Robinsa is completely right in that as stated, what FXOpen said (0-50ms latency to NA) is physically impossible (no SuperStyle, money doesn't buy miracles...) but I guess what FXOpen meant is that he doesn't detect any lag while playing SC2 on the NA server. The problem with this is that pros will likely detect in game lag more than your average player, but I'm sure its nothing they can't get used to.

What a house... Especially for gamers... My god. Makes me want to go back when i was 10 and Game to the extreme so it would pay off. I am just amazed by the inside and size of this house. But its a good sign for E-sports in America and i only hope the big name tournaments become mainstream and really take off

Wow, actually that looks far better than the korean team "houses", which most of the time just seem to be small apartments in a random tower building. I was quite shocked when I saw that in Artosis youtube-chan how these guys live there. I really imagined something similar as you can see here.

Advertisement is the very basic principle of corporate sponsorship anyway. That is why companies finance racing teams (which are a huge cash dump due to required research & developtment). One part of success is mere brand presence. It benefits FXO in the long run for their name to be simply known. By the time the majority of the audience graduates, they will earn money themselves and possibly looking into ways of investment.
If done right- and so far FXO has displayed quite a level of professionalism and general "smoothness" of their events and engagements, people might subconsciously tie that experience to their corporate services and products. At the very least, it is highly probable.

I think a guy who runs a company which is succesful enough to spend thousands of dollars monthly into an e-sports team has enough common sense to test internet speed and oversea routing before laying money on the table for the house.
It's great having guys like him around in the e-sport scene who not only have the passion, but also the money, to put something up. And who also has enough generosity to grant his players that sort of luxury. Because, again, if you look at the korean team "houses" you wouldn't really think that there is much money on the table. This definitely helps e-sport a lot and make it look much bigger than the korean scene.

Companies spend tons of money sponsoring events. For example Richard Branson spends millions sponsoring a virgin sailing team, because he enjoys sailing.
It is good to be the king, companies sponsor every sporting event under the sun, why not SC2 ?
I applauded FXO for being one of the first companies to step up and support the scene. If I was a multi-millionaire I would do the same thing.

isnt Malaysia kinda far from any tournaments they would be going to? isnt it cheeper to just pick korea or the US and get cheep flights domestically. instead you are now going to have reasonably high priced flights for all the tournaments you go to. not to mention any jet lag and fatigue when you take the long flights to the US and EU. seems kinda silly to me. i know the house there must be cheep to rent but still that doesnt seem to out weigh the negative.

Let's see here. They already had the house for 2 years prior, so they decided to use it. A house this size in the U.S. would be in the millions. In Korea, it would probably be very expensive as well. Tickets from the U.S. to Europe/Asia are usually $1k-$1.5k easily. Most major tournaments in the U.S. take place online (NASL, IPL) and the major tournaments outside of the U.S. are much closer to Malaysia than the US. It would actually be more expensive to have a house in the U.S. and fly people out to Korea/Europe where more and more tournaments are held each year.
Really nice house! But the location did bring some doubt. I understand Kuala Lampur as a place of business and accessibility but the internet there? It's hard to take your word for it. I've lived in Thailand for 3 years and know that internet in SEA has latency issues. I don't know much about the internet in Malaysia but I hope it's better.
Btw speed test results would put an end to this topic.

There is a built in minimum latency of bnet, so as long as you are below that you have 0 lag (in the sense that it's impossible to play with less; obviously there is lag, just like there is lag when the image has to travel from the monitor to your eyes). The distance from Malaysia to central US is a little less than 15000km. Light travels 15000km in 50ms (300,000km/s). Someone mentioned 125ms and 150ms as the minimums on bnet. It is by no mean a physical impossibility to achieve the minimal lag allowed on bnet. In any case we should focus on how awesome this is for fxo, and how nice the house looks. Obviously it is playable on all servers as fxoboss assures us, and extremely good connection to kr ladder (which I assume will be their ladder of choice). Even if the delay turns out to be 65ms and not the 50ms that we were promised so what? Looking forward to seeing more pics and (hopefully) vids once it is prepared for gaming.

that house while it looks nice isnt like its in LA or something. its not as expensive to rent a house in malysia as i think you believe. lets be honest no FXO players are going to be playing in Coda A anytime soon unless they recruit new players so korean tournaments are kinda out of the question now.
So now they just live away from MLG's and NASL LAN as well as live far away from all the various EU LANs they have available. It would be smarter to get a house on the east coast of the US or in EU somewhere than to rent a house in malaysia.
I know they are trying to make something happen there for sc2 but they should get that up and running before moving players there. i doubt many players who live in the US will want to live there for more than a couple months if there are no tournaments going on nearby. Basically im not saying the house isnt nice or that FXO isnt doing a good job, i am simply saying its far geographically from where all their tournaments at this time will be.

That house is fucking crazy... FXO obviously has the most financial backing behind it, you should look into sniping some bigger name players. Not saying your lineup isn't good, but with that much money for a house you can definitely afford to take some players off other teams. (like me >_>... I'll clean the damn place!)

Although I would love to have everyones favourite players in the team, its not possible and quite unfair. Also, in order to be a part of FXO you have to get a long with all the players AND all the management. We are a family of sorts.

Yes and the fastest fiber optics in would possibly send/recive signals 1.5 times the speed of light. So that is 75ms. Then you have the big problem wich is routing that take time and usually means that the signals are going to travel further than "needed". I hardly think its possible to get below 100ms from Kuala lumpur to NA. Most likely its going to be higher. There is a built in minimum latency of bnet, so as long as you are below that you have 0 lag (in the sense that it's impossible to play with less; obviously there is lag, just like there is lag when the image has to travel from the monitor to your eyes). The distance from Malaysia to central US is a little less than 15000km. Light travels 15000km in 50ms (300,000km/s). Someone mentioned 125ms and 150ms as the minimums on bnet. It is by no mean a physical impossibility to achieve the minimal lag allowed on bnet. In any case we should focus on how awesome this is for fxo, and how nice the house looks. Obviously it is playable on all servers as fxoboss assures us, and extremely good connection to kr ladder (which I assume will be their ladder of choice). Even if the delay turns out to be 65ms and not the 50ms that we were promised so what? Looking forward to seeing more pics and (hopefully) vids once it is prepared for gaming.

Sorry I expressed myself a bit clumsy. What I meant is that it takes 1.5 time LONGER for light in fibreoptics to reach it's destination compared to light traveling straight. In other words it's 1.5 times SLOWER and nothing else.

I just played on NA from the house. I am sitting there right now... I had no delay.. The player I played seemed to know who I was.. I had absolutely NO delay what so ever on NA. At the same time, I had the NASL commentary going in the background, and youtube playing frank sinatra...

My neighbour back where I lived before payed close to $20000 to get fibre optics to our area. I didnt pay a penny but still got the benefits! Pretty sure it was payed by corporate money though. Anyway, what Im trying to say is that it could be the price to draw a cable as well.

I think its good that you got a proper cable. Satelite internet is seldom very reliable from what Ive experianced. Ive only used it twice here in Japan but both times I had huge problems with latency. Not to speak of the connection issues during the rain season.

Supporting a pro team seems like a very risky investment to me. I would love to get an opportunity to speak with the marketing people involved with these non-gaming companies supporting esports outside of Korea. Seems like western esports will have to grow a lot before they attract enough people interested in forex.

I don't think you know anything about Malaysia. Rampant poverty, give me a break...the country is at full employement, stable government for the past decades, KL has a public transport system that works without drivers. It's not like there are no issues around here, but you make it sound like some third world country where people starve in the streets - definitely not true.

I think its amazing and so awesome what FXO is doing for the community, their team, and the way players are treated in general. I hope this is an example to others in this community cos I know FOR SURE this is the way all teams should be treated. The money factor is the issue for all teams OBVIOUSLY, but when companies start seeing people investing this much in teams. Its a GREAT example for starcraft2 and can hopefully lead the way for many other companies to invest in teams.

There should be a ping delay but not too like 5 sec delay etc. I'm playing from singapore to SEA and sometimes to US. SEA has no delay, US has like a 1 sec delay which isn't like gamebreaking so it should be fine.
i believe to KR servers would be like around 100+ ping so definitely better than SEA to US

To the Europe is not that bad from SEA. 10 Hours flight should not be that difficult. The problem is to the NA, which from SEA needs to cross the Pacific Ocean, which gonna be a very longgg flight.

I will be doing the flight from SEA to Columbus for MLG, Like you said players should be prepared for long flights if they want to compete all over the world. Major lans in the US have months break in between each event. So for being in malaysia, short flights for GSL games and the occasional long one to MLG Dreamhack etc shouldnt be difficult. You can always schedule the player to get there a day early so they can sleep off the jet lag before the tournament.

Also keeep in mind that when you make an study of marketing costs, the ammount of money it takes to set up a team, buy a house, pay the players etc... is not tha tmuch compared to what you would spend by just putting a full page advertisement on any nationwide magazine. As for the Malaysian envt, there's a growing culture of gaming in PC cafes, it's quite popular, but there's no true competitive "e-sports" scene. At best a few local tourneys. haven't been there for 3 years now so I don't know how it's like currently, especially with SC2.

(from my 10th grade history textbook) So just saying it'd be a good choice if you want the best of both worlds having the ability to travel to Europe and NA (about 12 hours depending on location and how many connecting flights) as well as being a short hop and skip away from Korea (about 5 hours)

Well, I'd like to add a little bit about the "e-sports" scene here. DotA is actually very popular here, every young male in Malaysia knows or plays the game, and we've held big DotA LAN tournaments with European and Chinese teams participating before. Though it might be harder for SC2 to take off here considering its price and how there's no way to pirate it (to play online).
Dota is enormous here. One of the biggest scenes. But our objective is not to convert the malaysian market, just to provide an arena for professionals to compete and entertain the malaysian and global communities. Its just logistically easier for our operations to be here. It also doesnt hurt my wallet so much.

Benefits include: 1) closer to the airport 2) further away from distractions (KL night life, traffic, ppl, ie conducive for training!) 3) steadier internet (as it is in the MSC zone) 4) cheaper houses as it is away from the city 5) tax breaks.
I'm guessing you guys are getting Unifi so it shouldn't be a problem (especially now when their monthly download volume policy is not yet in force). If you go for Streamyx you can be assured that you will sometimes get disconnects, downtime and lag.

Cyberjaya also has like the biggest mosque in Malaysia, which is constantly attracting the wrong kind of people for such a business.
The only way for players to get into KL city from our team house is VIA our team van. Which will be driven by my driver. I.e if they request to go somewhere and say "dont tell josh" it wont happen

Garena is like a platform for pirates games, and yea i don't think SC2 can replace DoTA anything time soon, atleast for the 2-3 years in Malaysia. But FXO do create a nice fresh start for E-sports scenes in Malaysia. It's always nice to see something other than DotA. And it's gonna encourage more SEA pro-gamer to step up into the international scene. It's always nice for fans like me to catch some live events in your home country =p
In all honesty It's not about the house. This only shows that FXOpen is taking care of their players. To have a manager that goes to this length for his players means more than a fancy house with a swimming pool. If anything this house will buff the loyalty from their players inspiring them to perform even better A happier crew makes the income better. Just look at google, It's one of the most desirable work offices in the world right now, and they get the best employees because they take good care of them.
This house is a great investment and this very thread is a PR stunt from their side as I bet that many of the very very top notch koreans and NA/EU players are tired of sharing a dirty flat crammed together in a small space will consider trying out for FXO.
If anything it shows that pro houses doesn't have to be a small dark flat with sleeping bags and im sure we'll see some changes in the living conditions of the pro's from now on.

Really nice set up. What kind of computers are you planning on getting? I can only imagine what the set up is going to look like. You planning to do a big gaming room or computers in each of the player's room? Actually I got the feeling your going to do both. Really nice location though. I live in Great Falls Virginia 15 minutes away from Pennsylvania Avenue (white house for the uninformed) and that is a nice house even by my standards. I know the crime has to be better there too most people don't realize you can hit the capitol then grab a hooker and some cocaine the next block over just to have it all taken at gun point right when you make it to the next block.

I read only some random pages of the rather long thread, so I maybe nmissed the answer, but I kinda still don't get the Malayisa thing. FXO's lineup is mostly western players, isn't it? I, as a middle European, would probably just die after a month in Malaysia - that's not bashing on anyone, but a statement of the the climate. Many of us are just not built that way to survive in tropical areas. Are you really sure, that the climate will not have adverse effects on your players?

I believe it was explained earlier that it was a property already owned by FXO that was mostly sitting unused. It puts them in a timezone fairly close to Korea, and probably with playable ping as well.
Yes, they could have gotten a Korean progaming condo, but they might very well end up paying more than the money saved on airlines for the higher housing costs in Seoul and end up with less living space to boot.
Not really relevant to this thread, but now that FXO has acquired fOu they will also have that property in Korea for any players actively participating in GSL.
Sorry for digging up quite an old thread but I just remembered that FXO had a teamhouse but I wasn't able to figure out what they use it for since their team mainly consists of korean players and those most definitely train and live in korea. So does anyone know if anyone is actually living at the house right now?
