Hi. I found some epic pictures of paper models of units in Starcraft, and thought I would share them with everyone at TL. They are made by blogger named 콘스타블(Constable) and you can download the plans at his blog : http://poppaper.net/80123692028

You need pdo viewer to view the plans.

Thank you John. Amazing stuff. It looks like they printed out the textures used by the game and figured out how to fold them up.

He did a siege tank one too that may be the most impressive. Anyways thanks for sharing this we don't get a lot of korean community information especially about fan made things like this so if you ever see anything similar I know that I and the rest of TL would love to see it.

These are unreal. Definitely thought they were just regular 3D models until I read the OP and that they were paper. The construction/seams on them are FLAWLESS. o__O

For those of you that cannot read Korean:

1. If you want to see all the models he made, click on the link "스타크래프트2" (Ctrl+F and then copy paste the korean characters if you are having trouble finding it)

2. You will need a .pdo file reader to be able to open the blueprint files, save for the Gauss Rifle's which is a series of .pdf files. Search for .pdo on google.

3. The download links are written as:
"도면다운로드" on Battlecruiser page
"도면다운받기" on Immortal, Wraith, Marauder, Banshee pages
"첨부파일" on Siege tank siege mode page
Again, Ctrl+F and then copy paste the korean characters so you will find them easier.

Hope it helps.

Very impressive work, I support a guest appearance on the broadcast (and maybe an interview with the creator along with some more of his work shown as a gapfiller between two matches ?)

My hands are bleeding of paper cuts just thinking how he managed to do this.
Absolutely suburb work!
It had me fooled as well, I thought they were 3D rendition models using as a reference.

I put them up. I'm TL noob so it took me ages. I don't know how I ended up linking the words "Plan download link" and "Banshee". Dont click it, it will just lead you to tank image. I don't know how to get rid of the link.

Thanks, we did the work at the same time (sorry!) The information that I needed to search for .pdo files helped. I think we found them all now! ;-)

BTW you can steal the link for the siege tank from my post!

If you go to the top right corner of that post, there is a red number with a green arrow next to it. Click on it and a list will appear and you'll be able to select the file you want to download (think the plans are in the sc2-cannon file).

I've always been impressed with papercraft but have also been much too lazy to actually print one out and complete it... That may change now.

Difficulty level of those models (according to the creator):

Siege tank: Medium, but the body can be a little frustrating
Battlecruiser: Medium. The model is huge, so I recommend reducing the image sizes before printing them out
Wraiths: Medium
Gauss rifle: Medium
Immortal: Difficult
Banshee: Very difficult with many tiny pieces. Will require fine tools.

You can download the Pepakura Viewer here for free. It only works for Windows though so Mac users are out of luck.

I started the Immortal in the summer. It is actually pretty challenging. For people going to try this, buy cardstock paper, don't use printer paper, as it is too weak for these models. Also, use an x-acto knife or similar craft knife to cut out the pieces, and cut on a softer surface, like a thick stack of newspapers or a specially made cutting mat (so you don't ruin your knife). You can use regular school glue to glue these parts together, just use a cotton swab or toothpick to put on small amounts of the glue. Fine tipped tweezers are also useful to manipulate the small pieces.

I've made a couple simpler papercraft before but I hope that I could get some tips before starting some of these ones.

1. Any way of avoiding creases in the paper when dealing with the tabs on the parts? I tend to fold them but since they are on cardstock sometimes the creases are very noticeable.

2. Sometimes the white from the tabs/paper folds are not entirely covered, I usually use markers now to avoid this. Any other methods?

Also has anyone made the Stalker (http://paperkraft.blogspot.com/2010/12/starcraft-2-protoss-stalker-papercraft.html), and how did it turn out?

you really need the program to make it (Pepakura Viewer), b/c there are no instructions per-say. In the viewer you can see flap numbers so you know where to fold too, and you can see red lines showing you what goes where. it's a free program, just DL and have fun

1) you can VERY LIGHTLY score a line with your the back of you X-Acto knife, or even better a empty mechanical pencil. it's important to use a ruler also

2) Use Pepakura Viewer and click the "color flaps with neighboring faces" it will put color over the cut/bend lines.

have fun!

Startup cost isn't too bad

110lb (200gsm) cardstock
Hobby knife/scissors
Elmer's Glue-All
Stack of old newspapers to cut on
Toothpicks to apply glue
Metal ruler or a pen without ink for scoring

If you don't have a color printer available you can go to the printing shop and hand them a flash drive with the pdf you want and ask them to print it on 200gsm/110 lb cardstock.

Yes, they are. Immortal and Marauder are in-game versions (and I guess Wraith and Battlecruiser too). Siege Tank and Banshee are cinematic versions of the models. Awesome.
Marauder has it's detailed version too, I wonder why it wasn't used here.

Edit: Siege Tank model is the in-game model too.

Thanks ginnipig for all the tips and the site, I guess I have been doing quite a few things wrong! Definitely going to try one of the easier models first to see how it turns out.

This immortal was on 4chan's papercraft board a few months ago, so someone named who had gone ahead and enlarged the immortal for everyone. Here is the link to it: [url blocked]

I think the finished model stands over two feet tall when it's finished. The instructions are the same as the small one, so it shouldn't be too hard to match the parts to it.

Edit: This guy also enlarged a baneling papercraft. Here's the link to the pdo

I guess some might find useful the fact that any of you can create those.

You will need:
- a copy of Starcraft 2 :D
- 3DsMax and M3 Plugin (or maybe someone knows better way of converting M3 to *.obj)
- Pepakura Designer
- 110lb (200gsm) cardstock (I trust commanderfun here)
- Color Printer
- Glue
- Knife/scissors
- Ruler

A quick guide:
- Convert your favorite unit model (the easiest way to obtain one is to extract it with Galaxy Editor) to *.obj using 3DsMax.
- Open the *.obj file in Pepakura Designer.
- Use Pepakura Designer to create paperwork print (this is a step I haven't done yet).
- Print.
- Make model.
- Take a photo.
- Be gosu.

According to Wikipedia 110lb corresponds to 300gms. I'm a complete ignorant in that matter though. I'd appreciate some help here as I plan to create such a model myself. :3

I guess the choice of paper is a pretty important one. I wouldn't like to screw something here.
I also have no idea what glue should I use.

To the creator of these papercrafts, if you speak English and read this thread, or anyone who has the skills to make these, I'm looking to buy one. Contact me if interested. I'm serious and willing to pay well.

I think the finished model stands over two feet tall when it's finished. The instructions are the same as the small one, so it shouldn't be too hard to match the parts to it.

Edit: This guy also enlarged a baneling papercraft. Here's the link to the pdo

You'd need way too many polygons (well, in this case, spikes, etc) to make them look anything like ingame, doing it with different colors like in the terran and protoss units would just look like crappy textures in crappy games.

I tried doing the immortal with 110 lb paper and found it too difficult to work with in the tight areas, mostly in the torso. I haven't had time to start again with lighter weight paper.

Does anyone know what weight paper Constable uses?

I have no idea when will I actually start the crafting it but you can be sure that I'll let you know. I don't even have idea if I will start it at all to be honest. I'm at the stage of adjusting the model and the texture and obtaining Pepakura Designer. :<

!? 120 grams is 0.26 pounds and 120 kg is 264.6 lb, so I'm not sure how you got that conversion.

I feel like I'm missing something and you're using "corresponds to" in another way..

This is amazing. I have attempted the banshee, somehow finished the tail rotor without failing miserably. One mis-snip/mis-glue = ohshit. Am I supposed to just make whichever parts in whichever order I want and just put it together?

Thank you very much for the info. 120 grams corresponds to 32 lb if anyone is wondering.

!? 120 grams is 0.26 pounds and 120 kg is 264.6 lb, so I'm not sure how you got that conversion.

I feel like I'm missing something and you're using "corresponds to" in another way..

It's not a straight conversion, but an equivalency for standard paper sizes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paper_density

I'm assuming using just regular A4 blank printer paper would be near impossible?

You can download the Pepakura Viewer here for free. It only works for Windows though so Mac users are out of luck.

Once I print it off and cut it out how do I assemble the model? Am I supposed to be able to freestyle that part? I'm intimidated by the 324 parts in the banshee : /

Those are made with Pepakura Designer which unfortunately does not create manuals for the models.

I'm working on the Siege Tank right now, and if you click on the part on the template, it highlights it in the 3D model. I haven't found assembly to be a problem yet.

So, here is mine.

It isnt as prefect as the originals, but i like it very much. It was my first paper model i have built.
Sadly, my printer seems to not print the colours as nice as the pictures on site one.
It take about 35-40 hours. I just need to cover up the foldings with a grey color and then its done.

my advice: try it..what do you ahve to loose? Try to be patient and dont hurry.

Only one word: WOW
I could not believe that was paper until I saw the plans. I am so going to make one ^^

Edit: After trying the first page of the tank, I would have to say this is a project that is going to take a lot of time and effort. Really makes me impressed at the person who came up with the plans and those who can actually make ones of these models. (Yes I have given up, for now...)
Things I have learnt:
-Having a cutter and and cutting board is a must, scissors can be used but are really a pain.
-The flaps are too small, this makes gluing close to impossible. You might want to cut them out larger then they are.
-Using tape might be better then glue in some cases.

my experience:

i only have an old really big scissor, but i works, only after 3-4 hours my hands hurt a bit.
the flaps are compeltely ok, they are in fact way bigger then other papermodels, tape? no way, you would see it and its incredibly more complicated then glue.

thats just what i have learned out of building that model

Great job! That looks very nice. What kind of paper did you use? Maybe colors can be improved by using some kind of inkjet photo paper.

Awesome! Can anyone post a tutorial on importing more models into Pepakura Designer?

I already know how to extract base.SC2assets and import models into 3ds Max (thanks to the search function), but if I try to export them as a *.3ds and load that into Pepakura, every model I've tried just shows up as a faceted sphere. I've also tried using that m3 viewer program from sc2mapster, but somehow that fails to even read the *.m3 and *_diffuse.dds files properly, anything I attempt to view there just looks like a jagged mess of malfunctioning shaders...

I'd be interested!

I've been trying to make the tank too, but I think using 210gms card is not the best idea. The flaps are to hard to bend over and show really bad when you join the sections together.

I'm using Elmer's Liquid School Glue. In the tutorial posted somewhere in this thread I think it recommended to use wood glue, but I don't think it makes a big difference. As long as its liquid glue. I'm making the Wraith right now since it's not as difficult, I hope someone makes of the Vulture and posts it here as I have no idea how to import models.

So i also tried doing my own pdo file, but its very very hard work to do that. because wen pepakura creator does unfold a model i imported it creates undoable foldings. So i need to invest several hours for a model in cutting it down in several doable pieces.. So doing all at once and upload it, is not a valid option. But when iam done wit ha model, i will post ist here.

i will start with a pylon

Wow, these look awesome. Too bad zerg units just don't lend themselves well to paper models.

Honestly this is really impressive.

this stuff is so cool, i printed out some normal paper with 1 page of battle cruiser parts and it seems really easy enough. My dad used to build a lot of remote control airplanes and such so i know i could borrow some of his exacto knifes and super nice glues for this. Im so pumped to do one i hope to see new models that could be made, i really want to see a thor!

Are you the artist that's making this stuff? Because I would be willing to pay good cash for a model or two to put up in my room. PM me if interested.

the bunker looks total shit... hte problem is with how blizzard made the 3d models for buildings...for example, the top columns in the model go through the roof...so when building you have a huge problem...anyway i will edit the 3d model from hand later to make it possible to create a paper layout.

first off iam no finishing the map, the ramp and the outer textures...also steam will be added to teh vespine geyser.... when i have enough led's at home i also will start doing the lighning for the vespine geyser.

Does anyone have any tips on how to do the rounded pieces? I'm currently trying the Marauder and all of his cylinder-like tanks on the back are coming out crappily.

sometimes it better to dont fold it and just glue it,...so it becomes a round shape.

Hey guys, hope some non sc2 related paperwork is ok?
Iam away for some days (4 days straight party*g*) but when iam back in life, i promise i will finish the xelnaga map, at least the ramp ( i need to buy new printing paper)...

so here the pictures:

He want's to become a Firebat, when he's big.

And here an eagle, it looks really nice in reallife, a shame that i messed up some parts, but this model just worked nothing near the others in this thread, it wasn't based on a 3d model. So it really had no edges just curves.

Holy shiznit, you're really getting into this, Pharaun. Must've taken you quite a bit of time. I'm attempting Maruader right now and I'm not sure when I will finish it... Not the best choice for my first ever papercraft, lol.

Hi, I play the new file papercraft. Read this article:
On April 28 2011 04:07 Cano wrote:

I have followed and the transition from the file. M3 to 3dsmax, you lose all color and color do not have to move file. Obj is it too but also white and there is no color. so you can only own how to turn it on file. obj retain its color. for example, as a child I wanted to do in pheonix starcraft 2 when in to have full color. Everyone could be his guide, and if so more pictures the better.

I tried getting my hands on that bashee .pdo file, but an error comes up on that Korean website so I can no longer get it. Also, it appears that Megaupload has been shut down. So... if anyone has the .pdo file for the banshee and is willing to share, i would be most appreciative.
