Zerg and Protoss music is decent, but pales in comparison to SC2 Terran and BW music. With an estimated 2 year development period, I'm sure that there should be plenty of time for the sound designers and composers to whip up some new ear candy. So true! I think Blizzard actually should go and hire some pretty well-known artists for music. I wouldn't mind if Trent Reznor did the Zerg music and Daft Punk did the Protoss music .
No more no less! The musics are very bland, without much personality. Here are there are a few parts that sound good, but most of it is forgettable. Like you say, hopefully they'll hire someone up to the task of making something that actually is worth having the music sound on.

1.We will have the same game engine? 2.We need to buy new computers for the HotS?

Some people in this thread are the reason companies have to use PR departments to try and say as little of substance as possible in press releases.

Lol. I'm sorry but Daft Punk doesn't sound very protoss-ish to me.

also, a question. do we need to BUY Heart of the Swarm and that'll patch into Wings of Liberty or is it going to be like "a patch"? Like every expansion for every Blizzard game for the past 15 or so years, we're gonna need to buy it. So it will essentially be the Brood War of SC2. I have to point out that Blizzard's statements regarding this has been unclear. Originally Blizzard said that each expansion would be a standalone game, which also expands the other game(s). In case you are wondering what that's like, Arenanet did the same thing with Guild Wars. Problem is with SC2 being instanced and editable and having a ladder and such, there are a lot of potential problems with this method. Later on, they made no official withdraw of what they previously said, but in their FAQ one of their question/answer points (that might be gone now? I couldn't find it) mentioned that HotS would be an expansion to WoL (but I don't think elaborated anymore, but did omit standalone, and did imply that WoL was required). Hence, I'd say it's likely it will not be a standalone — mostly due to all the problems that would have— but one cannot say that for sure, as Blizzard has been pretty unclear.
I think they explained it wrong. Each expansion will have a single player campaign worthy of a standalone game. Other than that, they aren't standalone games at all. At least that's what I believe is going to happen based on BW adn TFT.

Uh....
Obviously it will be on the same engine and have the same requirements as WoL

Please don't disappoint me, Blizzard x|
I wait with huge anticipation!

If only zerg gets new units a lot of players aren't even gonna bother buying this expansion so I guess every race will get new units

You're right, the original Daft Punk doesn't sound toss-ish. Although I think they are pretty talented to experiment the sound a lot so I think they could pull it of.
My point was that for HotS they should improve the music for both Zerg and Toss and hire some really talented and good composter/artist/group for this. This could improve the music sound and also it would be good for marketing of the game.

Why is it obvious? Couple of years pass between each game, computers getting stronger and stronger. Engines can be upgraded. Of course, backward compatibility has to be kept.
My question: we will have 3 different ladders for sc2? Also, will WoL be patched after HotS comes out (i dont think so)?

New Zerg units should be cool, I expect one of these to be added to the MP eventually.

Engines can be upgraded. Of course, backward compatibility has to be kept. My question: we will have 3 different ladders for sc2? Also, will WoL be patched after HotS comes out (i dont think so)? Generally, expansion packs usually don't come with engine upgrades; content upgrades are the status-quo. Of course, there are a few exceptions like the Half Life 2 episodes that contain engine upgrades, but HotS is not expected to have such graphical improvements considering that Frozen Throne and Brood War were only content upgrades for their respective games. If there is a graphical update, I'm sure that it won't affect the minimum system requirements.
Also, I'm sure that Blizzard stated that they are planning for separate ladders. Having separate ladders is generally the status quo for most RTS expansion packs, so I don't see Blizzard deviating from that. I think it's also safe to speculate that patching for WoL will be greatly reduced considering that HotS will be the new center of the community, though I think bug fixes will still be addressed with.

No offense to Blizz's composers, but a lot of ambient sounds chained together does not a good theme make.

There will be 3 different mods: wol, hots, lotv mod. (for multiplayer) so if you only have wol, you will be able to play only with those who haven't hots or lotv. A bit strange, sorry if i'm wrong. I think it's... nah... all the players are split into 3 parts... don't like it
|
I don't really care about the single player, all I care about are the new multiplayer mechanics. RPG elements, simcity elements, throw in there whatever you like Blizz, because I went through the liberty campaign only when my internet died. I also hope they made the visual effects a bit better, because right now Starcraft 2 looks like some game from 2005 with all the new shader effects slapped on top of it and machines that play all of today's games on max settings, have trouble with Starcraft 2 on ultra. So Blizz please put more effort this time.
|
Does anybody know if there will be an "open" beta for hots too? Has Blizz stated anything about that once?

The entire competitive scene is expected to transition straight into the expansion packs, and the majority of the player base will probably transition with them.
I think the bulk of the people "left behind" by the split either are too casual or too poor to buy the expansion packs. Considering that very few people, if any, played vanilla Starcraft or Warcraft 3 after their expansion packs were released, I expect the same for the SC2 expansions.

Most certainly there won't be more hunger for hardware.
