Let me say first of all CONGRATULATIONS on all you have accomplished thus far! I understand it is not easy organizing what you have, and I think its the start of something great! Gretorp and InControl are very skilled players and knowledgable in the ways of SC2; however, they are both very raw casters. I believe that bringing in 1 or maybe even 2 pro level casters like: - Diggity - Total Biscuit - HD Starcraft - Husky - Ahnaris anyone or two of these youtube commentators would make the world of difference for your show. As for those other people complaining about sound, music, whatever,...I understand this is a new show and these things take some time to fall into place. Good work so far! Any of those including day9 and any iccup caster too except husky. Please don't bring husky in, even though he will get the attention of his 400k subscribers I honestly think he is worse then gretorp. Please no husky

1) Hide the timer, Nobody needs a timer. 2) Split the videos per set. Make dummy videos if needed. Currently it is HORRIBLE. Even if I can avoid all spoiler the damn timer spoils the entire series. And if you even touch your mouse the damn timer pops up. SO VERY annoying when you are watching it together with a friend over teamspeak. Please NASL 1) Hide the timer, Nobody needs a timer. 2) Split the videos per set. Make dummy videos if needed.

tips on where to get better? everywhere but the biggest point is the production level. Work on your transitions. Get some music (ingame music / "pause" music) dont fake excitement when theres nothing exciting going on (both of you) Change the studio background/lights/whatever - it looks boring

For clarity, when reviewing game 1 of a series show a clip of a decisive battle or attack and go over why one player came out ahead and discuss the other player could have done better, etc.

not to mention that the only thing that distinguishes it from any other tournament is the prize pool. the setup they have in their "studio" isn't any better than something someone could do from home. get some black, veneered MDF and slap it behind you while you sit at your desk and you're on par with NASL. the casting is unlikely to bring people in, or make them watch games they otherwise wouldn't. gretorp especially has a pretty stale personality. i've got nothing against the guy personally but some people just aren't cut out to be big personalities that attract a lot of people. on the other hand there are people like tlo and demuslim who aren't even casters who have a certain je ne sais quoi that attracts people. not to mention actual casters like tasteless, artosis, rotterdam, day9. also, the games are online. i'm not sure you're ever going to get an omgwtfthisisawesome reaction from people that events like dreamhack, gsl, korea vs the world, iem cologne (that had the 5 OTs or whatever) have gotten if it's not live, with an audience, with cameras able to instantly pan onto socke's face as it goes into another, agonising overtime. as it is atm i may as well be watching a husky vod on youtube. someone wins? whatever. there's no cheering crowd, no shot of a player's relief or disappointment. (as an aside there are no consequences for a long time at this stage of the NASL) apart from that, in every other competitive game i've followed (cs, quake and wc3) online results aren't given much merit. so as much as they're trying to generate this artificial prestige, i think people aren't as interested because they want to see people having to bring their A game to a live event, on stage, with their opponents a few feet away from them. so i think if they really want to keep this format, i feel like at this stage in the tournament it should be very low key. no studio, just games casted online like TSL3 and this phase is just treated like a sort of qualifier. then they save money renting out a studio and whatever else. then they can put on this larger one or two day event comprised of whoever qualified and THAT is what gets hyped to shit. look at dreamhack, just a single day and people fucking loved it. with the amount of attention and hype this received it was months of hype, hype, hype followed by... over 200 group stage matches, it's like "this is it? two guys who may as well be in their bedroom essentially casting from replays?" i hope the NASL gets better and they revise their format for future seasons.

The studio view looks pretty bland is well. Needs some different colours, (sponsor) logos or some nice artwork. Looks like two guys sitting in the morgue at the moment.

Gretorp is probably one of the worst casters I have ever heard, maybe second to kellymilkies, but it's pretty close.

You should only be allowed to switch to the income tab or apm tab or any other tab for 5 or so seconds to make a point before switching back. Its far and away the most useful tab in the game. I swear there are some games where the income tab was up for more than half the game - just unacceptable.

They can't do their current format in any other way besides online; if you want the player pool that NASL has and the sheer number of games that they are producing - the whole thing has to be done online. I don't get this whole "hype" thing that NASL is missing out on - there is still the final tournament that will be played offline and i am sure that will so damn epic. Why can't people see this as the build up, the storyline, the road to the finals!? The whole format relies on an online competition part; it's the only logical way to get things done and if people are going to let that get in the way of their NASL experience then i think that is pretty sad for them. They are bringing you TOP TIER GAMES from some of the BEST players in the world every.. single.. day.. of.. the.. week!?!?! How are you not excited by that? "Oh it's not live, and the casting is prerecorded" - are you still watching iNcontrol vs Ensnare? Yes! And then the proposal is to make everything low key; a $400,000 prize pool venture and you want the opening phase to be low key? If NASL started taking steps backwards from where they are i think they'd be in a lot of trouble. The casting will get better; the games will keep coming and the amount of SC2 content they are producing is insane OT: Are there any plans to revise the map pool? I know there is a lot of community debate going on this thread

He should not try to be a play-by-play type of caster like DJWheat or Totalbiscuit.

After watching the day 2 vods I noticed Gretorp said "Unbelievable play, I cannot believe it" at the end of 3 out of the 4 series (TT1/SjoW was the only match to be of a believable quality). Jokes aside, when phrases like this are used in excess, personally it gives me a feeling that the "wow" factor of the games are being greatly exaggerated, and with that I feel patronised, as though I can be fooled into believing that 3 out of the 4 series were "unbelievable" (they wern't). I don't mean this as a personal attack on Gretorp's commentary, it is something lots of commentators do, just today it found it very noticeable. It is OK if every game of SC2 that is streamed and commentated isn't a mind blowing game. The spectators won't turn off their streams or fail to renew their subscriptions in exchange for a little more, for want of a better word, "honesty" in the casts.

The intermission periods are kind of needed so people can go to the bathroom or something. But a five minute "Intermission" card is kind of a lame way to go about it. You need something for our eyeballs to look at that not important enough that we curse our bladders for making us miss it. Something like Tyler thanking all his fans, or an interview with Gretorp's mom, or a tour of the NASL studio. That kind of fluff thing. Even just having a black and white thing of Incontrol in a clown outfit looking grim, releasing a bunch of balloons into the air, turning to the camera and going "This is an intermission" in a silly voice would be something to look at and talk about. Hell, you could even allow user submissions and make it a community thing, and then it'd actually be a kind of awesome thing no other league does.

It is also bad to have a webpage with a dark background and white text, because that strains the eye more than the other way round. Light background and dark text is much easier to read, but maybe that is on purpose to be in synch with the dark grey studio. Whoever did it should be fired IMO. The logo on the left side of the screen during the games is a really good idea IMO because the bottom right is interesting for the viewer ... to see if units have certain spells or not. Diggity looked 10 times better dressed than Gretorp even though Gretorp had "a jacket". The T-Shirt totally ruins any "seriousness" of the jacket and I didnt really notice the "poorly worn tie". The black jackets also look rather depressing in a dark and depressing grey studio. Maybe I am misunderstanding what you are saying, but I MUCH prefer dark background + lighter text, it is much nicer on my eyes. I use open office and emacs with black background and white text, and I even have a chrome bookmarklet that allows me to do a black white switch

they need a dedicated observer, and they either need some more energetic commentators or a lot of practice on their commentating. they seem to be very vague in their commentary, mostly stating the obvious in a very minimal vocab, dispassionate HDstarcraft style. my biggest problem is that gretorp is very nervous. he seems to be second guessing himself when he speaks, resulting in almost every sentence being some incomprehensible butchering of the english language. he's constantly screwing up names, inventing players like "MunCher" and units like "planetary defense drone." he also needs a script for their interviews. when gretorp was interviewing SjoW yesterday, he clearly had no script or any planned questions of any kind. i had to sort through his huge mess of redundant statements and sentence fragments just to figure out what he was trying to ask. also, a lot of the matches are pretty boring. they need to be waaaaay more selective with their players, because for a tournament that's hyped up this much, players expect better games. if i want to watch a few random top 200 guys play each other, i'll watch a go4sc2 cup or something similar.
