After WCG announced Warcraft 3 would be part of the finales we asked Grubby whether he could comment on the matter. Since the new liscence holder Esportsbond did not announce anything yet regarding qualifiers Grubby decided not to comment on the matter.
Instead we asked him some general questions regarding Starcraft II:
Starcraft2.nl: At the Intel Extreme Masters, the Korean invites were dominating the tournament. Moon, your Warcraft 3 rival, got into the final. In the GSL Code S, Lynn was top8. Does this motivate you in anyway?
Grubby: Little happens that can motivate me even more than I already am. There’s no lack of will. I do feel happy to see Moon & Lyn doing well – representing the WC3 pride. Though, in the end, we’re all SC2 players now as well, and you have to carve out a new path of success. But it’s still nice to see them making a good transition, as I will too.
Starcraft2.nl: Do you like playing Starcraft 2? Are you enjoying yourself as much as you did when you started with Warcraft 3? What's different? What aspects do you like the most?
Grubby: I love it. It’s fast-paced, never dull, has huge amount of possibility for people to have their own play styles, build orders and variations. I think that’s one of the best things about SC2: the sheer amount of possible different opening builds.
I didn’t like WarCraft 3 when I first started on it, and I heard that from some other players as well. However, the game grows on you immensely if you get beyond the first 50 games or so and watch some epic, epic replays & VOD’s (my finals games against Zacard in BlizzCon ’05 or Moon in WCG ’08 are some much quoted examples of people who fell in love with the game after seeing a VOD). WarCraft 3 has the potential to totally blow your mind with epic moments relying on extreme precision, micro and battle-waging. A connaiseur will appreciate WC3 so much.
