In the US client, you can't really tell they turn grey, because once marines die, their bodies pretty much just blow up in a fountain of blood. But from GSL broadcasts, they just sort of fall over.

TBH I like this vanish animation better, but it's interesting dude. Big up to you for spotting this thing :D I've never payed attention to this.

On one hand, DTs in BW have the "warp out" effect that are used by NA/EU SC2 client.

On the other hand, the lore does say that they aren't connected to the Khala, though this does not really matter when they could just be teleported out.

I find it really strange that the Korean client has a different DT death animation, since the original one wasn't really morbid or obscene like the death animations for Terran and Zerg bio.

Metzen said at Blizzcon (2009?) the terran units turn black/grey, because Blizz wants players "to know which unit is dead and which is not, to avoid disturbing for players". It has nothing to do with lore, just to show, the unit is no longer selectable/clickable, so you don't waste time before you see it's dead, because some units, like thors, don't explode instantly.

Now that you mention it I do recall zerg units fading into black on the gsl. Also in the terran bio has the death animations of when they get killed at range and fade away when the zealots and dts chop them although that one was explained by the violence level filter.

its not them being teleported to safety . . . its them returning to the khala. the reason the dts die like that in the asian client is because the asian client features less violence and black blood which for some reason causes the dts to fall down like that

I've heard about the teleportation too, but DT:s being disconnected from the Khala shouldn't affect their ability to teleport out of battle, only their ability to merge with the Khala afterwards.

Templar are changed from the "spirit death" in the violent settings to a normal death in the censored settings because China and possibly other countries have problems with the images of ghosts/undead/etc. The Chinese version of World of Warcraft had to be changed because there is many Undead/Ghosts in the Warcraft storyline.

its censorship setting. Korea thought that SC2 default death animations were too graphic for their public viewing audience so thats why most of the deaths spew black blood.

The ghost/spirit thing makes sense except for the part that zealots and Hts have the spirit "death" animation
