Anyone ever notice how dts have different death Animations with different clients?
In the NA/Euro clients they get teleported to safety like zealots and hts.

But when you use an Asian client like the Korean or mandarin one they just fall to the ground dead. http://www.gomtv.net/2010gslopens2/vod/1152 you should be able to watch this its the first game in the set. skip to 18:40
I've also noticed that if you watch a replay the animation will correspond with whatever version you're using.
I was wondering if anyone else has noticed differences like this? I find these things interesting.
I never noticed this before. Interesting. Maybe it has to do with the general difference in violence displayed between the different clients? The korean client is a lot less gory than the NA/EU one due to the game's rating, and the DT animation could just be a part of the "less gory death animation" pack. Who knows.
On a side note, are you sure they're "teleported to safety"? Looks like their essence vanishes or something.
Well, I have noticed that in the GSL broadcasts, zerg units spew off black ink when they die and marines turn into iron statues before falling over. I chalked this up as some censorship setting I wasn't aware of, but that wouldn't explain the DT difference.
This is true for other units. I don't know about the German client, but in the Korean client, units don't get gibbed. You don't see marines or marauders getting sliced into three pieces by zealots or turned to green goo by banelings, instead they just fall down.

its in the "lore" parts of the blizz site or something. the zealot doesnt die he gets teleported back to auir so he can recover to fight another day

wow ive never noticed the stone thing lulz. gotta pay more attn i guess
i think the stone thing is kinda misinterpreted. to me it just looks like they are supposed to lsoe their faction color, turning them into a default "grey" which gives them the stony look. they still topple over sliced in half and the likes.
If I recall correctly, Dark Templar had their spinal-cord thingamajigger severed so they can't be linked to the rest of the Protoss race, in addition to being unable to have that spirit form thing happen. They just die.
Lmao, they don't turn to stone, their animation abruptly halts and then they fall to pieces and blood squirts out. It's like that scene in movies where two ninjas leap towards eachother, and the screen cuts to black for a second, and you hear, "Slechhhhhhh!" (Which of course the sound of ninja blades), and then they both land and stay still for a second, and then one topples over. Exact same thing.
I seem to recall this being an issue with censors in Korea. It was headed for an Adults rating, which would put the kibosh on all these teenaged programers competing. Is it even possible to turn up the gore in the korean version to see red blood and marines/marauders getting sliced up?
As for zealots being teleported to safety... lame if that's true. I always thought as they died, they turned into psionic energy™ and became one with the khala/void.
As for losing their unit colors and 'turning to stone' on death, this is to reduce confusion. People (traditionalists especially) were concerned that in a large battle with tons of fancy death animations and other effects going off, it would be hard to tell what was still a target and what was a death animation. Thus, dead units turn 'neutral' colored, to emphasize the fact that they have no further impact on the game, no collision, etc.

The initial release version of SC2 got an "Adults-Only" rating in South Korea due to several featuers of violence and (in Korean culture) morally reprehensible animations which greatly diminished the games potential sales, and, as far as I'm aware, would've kept the game from being broadcasted before a certain time in the evening.
Among units exploding into a sea of blood, there were also other things which are to my knowledge (and I'm just putting this together out of my memory, I have no insight into Korean culture so I don't know if it's even remotely true) considered morally reprehensible in Korean culture and pushed the game towards an "adult only" rating, like dying humanoids disappearing into thin air (like some Protoss units) instead of falling to the ground like real dying bodies.
As far as I recall, about a month or so after release, Blizzard therefor released the low-violence version that is used by most South Koreans and GomTV currently.
An old news article on Starcraft 2 getting adult only rating can be found here, for example:

Quote from Kevin Yu:
Do Protoss warriors actually die? What is the blue flash when they die?
In the chaos of the battlefield, Protoss warriors fight with tremendous power and grace, but even so, they can be mortally wounded. Then the Protoss' foes often bear witness to a startling sight: the injured Protoss disappears in a bright flash of light. Such a vision has caused primitive races to quail in superstitious fear, and yet it has no supernatural cause. On the contrary, it is merely the result of teleportation, which is one of the chief strengths of Protoss technology. Protoss warriors typically have teleport mechanisms built into their armor. If the warrior is sufficiently injured, a properly functioning mechanism will automatically teleport the body to the nearest safe haven.
A Protoss warrior who is badly injured but still living may be placed in a dragoon--or latterly an immortal--shell to continue to fight. This is the choice of the individual warrior. Some warriors elect to shoulder the burden of remaining among the living instead of joining the sum of Protoss lives embodied in the Khala. It is worthy of note that the lives of individual Protoss that have passed into the Khala are no longer coherent entities, and the Protoss cannot speak with their dead per se. However, there are memories and strands of experience that can be accessed. Only the most skilled Protoss preservers can locate and follow specific desired strands of knowledge. The tremendous value of preservers comes from the fact that they carry within themselves and can access the sum total of Protoss experience at an individual level.
the terran bio does not turn into stone, all deathanimations have no playercolour, so if a red marine dies, he first loses his red color, then dies <.<
