MPQ Editing is not endorsed by Teamliquid nor is it recommended as Blizzard actively takes steps to stop and prevent it. Be warned and do this at your own peril. -Nyovne

I tested it once, i didnt like the quality of the medic picture, it feels like its extended.. went back the the original file inmediatly. lol? It have smaller size, than original ! http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=§ion=&q=terran medic#/d2myyfl id lol if this was a troll post with photoshop and people end up getting banned because they changed MPQ. There are no photoshop. I highly doubt blizzard will ban for editing the background picture. Theoretically yesб but practically... who banned for replaced stuff, like this?

That's fine, but it'd be nice if you added a warning in OP that this does in fact break the TOS. I mean, sure, they probably won't ban if they knew it was just a background, but if they decide to check for any changes at all, this will show up for sure.

Just because a company says its not legal by their standards, doesnt make it true universally. No judge would rule in favor of blizzard over half their "rights" that they religiously fight for. People really need to read a few books about how the law system works Aside from that, Love the work on it, definitely going to check it out

And apparently anything you make in blizzard's editor is also owned by them through IP rights... Just because a company says its not legal by their standards, doesnt make it true universally. They don't need to proceed legally to ban your account due to breaking their terms. You can go fight it in court if you want but it would really not be worth it nor would you have a solid enough case to win. It is neat to mod the game like this, but I see no value of the risk to get caught to change the opening screen you spend 10 seconds on at most until you click on a tab.

Again, who banned for that? I don't see answer to this question. Or maybe don't create a topic expecting everyone to agree with you? I'm just trying to help out and keep people from getting banned.

however, Blizzard should allow a couple of these pictures, for all races so, that way, they could check if local .mpq is an original .mpq or accepted alternates

Or maybe don't create a topic expecting everyone to agree with you? I'm just trying to help out and keep people from getting banned. It's their choice. Some players don't care about being banned and playing with zerg overmind foice, SC1 music and darker textures since beta. Who cares about TOS, that players will not download this small customization

People really need to read a few books about how the law system works Aside from that, Love the work on it, definitely going to check it out It has nothing to do with whether or not it's legal under the TOS. Blizzard has the option to ban anyone from battle.net at their own discretion, with only the slightest hint that you changed something in the game client. If you knew how the legal system and terms of use contracts worked, you would know they don't need to prove that you violated the terms of service to ban you from battle.net The only way you could get across the ban would be to sue blizzard in violation of good-faith in performance of their TOS contract, i.e. they used their discretion unfairly. This will be pretty hard to do considering they don't have the time to inspect every modification to the game and are attempting to prevent hacking on the ladder for millions of other "innocent" players. No judge or arbitrator would say that blizzard banned you in bad faith. It's not about whether they own the picture and its not about intellectual property, its that they reserve the power to ban without notice to protect the integrity of the battle.net platform. Lastly, any terms of use contract is going to have an arbitration clause which will prohibit you from filing a legal claim against blizzard in court. To pursue any claim you will be required to seek arbitration, which will be easily be 100x more expensive than just buying a new game. And of course you agreed to all these terms because you bought the game and installed it. I've read a number of books on how the law system works, seeing as I actually go to law school edit: I still doubt you would get banned, but it would really suck if you did, so I dont think im gonna do the mod, even though it looks awesome
