Have you ever been fighting a battle near your opponents base and you warp in a new wave of reinforcements, and right as they appear you box them and hit shift and add the new units to your control group.
Now you double hit your control group to go to back to your army so you can micro your units. Instead it brings you back to your gateways which have been automatically added to the control group.
With your screen at your gateways and not on your units, your units are not being micro managed so they are not performing to the best of their abilities.
I find this very annoying, does anybody know a way to prevent this? other than waiting longer to add the units since that is not very efficient.
edit, typos in thread titles FTW.

let go of shift, box the newly warped in units, then add to the control group.

Everyone talks about this, but I've never had it happened.
I do wish there was an option to make it impossible to add buildings to a control group of units. It's very rare that you'd want to have units and buildings in the same group, especially as Protoss. Currently though there's no way to prevent it.

story of my life.. I hate this so much, I always start to remake the grp and then get attacked at just that moment and dont a move the correct units etc...
Hold ctrl+shift, click on one of the warpgate wireframes. Presto, every warpgate removed in one click. Press ctrl+# to remake group.
This happens to me wayyyy too much, you just gotta be careful to let go of Shift and then add them.
The gateways have not been automatically added to the control group, they were added manually. Sometimes you might accidentally hold shift before you press w and warp in units, causing the Warpgates to be added to the control group. To prevent this you warp in all the units first and then select and add to control group.
Used to happen to me too, and realised u gotta just box the units without holding shift. Its just something u gotta get used to. Work on that carpal tunnel
I've had this happen alot and I've noticed that the more I kept it in the back of my mind that it happened, the less I held shift when boxing the warped in units. Another way to do this is to slow down when warping in units, to make sure your only adding to your control group.
Yea it happened to me few times before i started doing this ; Box the reinforcements, press shift<armygroup> and voilá
My other problem is adding warping units to a control group, and then quickly giving that group an attack command. Units warping in only have rally commands, no attack command, so they just sit put and I forget about them until the next time I want to warp something in.
Wow, I've always never conceived this happening. Now that you've gone put this error into my head it's stuck and will further affect my already atrocious play. Curse you OP.
When I warp in I usually rally them all while they're warping to where I'd like them to be. Along the way, I can usually find time to add them to my control group.

This is me.

Yeah, I've had problems with warp gates and control grouping warping units and telling them to attack. Obviously it seems better to take your time, but I'm the kind of guy that likes to rush things asap so I can get back to the battle.
Funny thing is, when I offrace in team games, I also end up adding in a rax or two and any extra larva/eggs. It's pretty funny.
Maybe if any option comes out so that we don't accidentally control units with buildings, that'd be awesome, but if not, I think taking the slower approach and doing things step by step is the best way.

I play Terran and I have a bunch of trouble with this. I try to play as quickly as I can, so I'll be producing out of barracks using one hotkey and then suddenly switch back to my army to add the last cycle of units to my army hotkey and I end up throwing my barracks in with my units.
I also have a problem with replacing existing hotkeys with SCV's that I send to a gas gyser because I accidentally hit the little tab thing while they are selected. Is there any way to make it impossible to assign hotkeys by clicking on those damn tabs at least?
I just select all the warp in units and right click on a unit of my main army so they travel there. Once they reach the battle screen then I start to hotkey them. That way you lose less time in terms of not looking at the screen to micro.
lol this happens all the time and I never know how it happened
I have this happen all the time whenever I play Toss .-. That rally problem too. The only solution is to constantly remind myself to let go of shift.
