I just spent a minute testing it though and I'm frowny facing at the lack of reaper-accessible cliff area into the mains.
That is one thing I don't like about most of the iCCup maps. You guys are still making most cliffs unpathable to reapers even though you started doing that when 5 rax reaper was OP, but now reapers aren't used so much. Since then we've adopted the "patio" which you can find on a lot of maps (Sungsu Crossing for example). Some maps (especially rotational symmetry 4player maps) do not lend themselves to have easily accessible cliffs and there's not a lot to work around it. (Valhalla for example)

Obsidian Inferno is a good example of us pushing what we think is acceptable. Who knows? Maybe somewhere down the line we will implement areas of the map that cut themselves off periodically. As much as I'd like to believe I can see the future, I actually can't. Sorry for taking the jab, but I saw the opening and had to do it. I'm really on the fence about gimmicky features at the moment. I consider the bridge to be a gimmick because it gets people talking about the map, yet without it, Obsidian Inferno isn't all that exciting.
I think a gimmick brings attention to a map and only time will tell it's a worthwhile addition. But I don't want to see gimmicks for the sake of gimmicks; just to stand out from the crowd and grab attention. I don't think that's what you're trying to do, but the road ahead of us may lead to these pitfalls.

Yeah! Enigma is still on here!

I have a feeling that one will be around for awhile. Any map that Day9 picks out as "really cool" can't be bad lol! It's been a hell of a fun map though.

Diamond out of curosity what are your favorite maps in pool or custom maps in general?

In customs I really like Sungsu Crossing a lot, also I'm really starting to dig Obsidian Inferno, but I feel like I need to see some more games on it.

just played 7 TvP's (me offracing from my usual zerg) versus one of my longest-standing practice partners using this map pool and it resulted in at least three of the best games we've ever played. infinitely more enjoyable then the ladder maps for sure. it's a travesty that these maps aren't getting quite the attention they deserve
|
really good looking maps. Would love to see some of this being used in ladder, as many people here have also commented

I'm hoping that when they do the ladder reset, that they add some ICCup maps to the official map pool. Even if it is just one or two maps.

These are my thoughts exactly.
When I talking about lava , I wasn't really thinking about it like a simple gimmick to create a shortcut for few minutes and thus taking the risk of implementing something that would in the end would prolly fall into creating an unfair advantage or being seen as a cosmetic aspect of the map. Cause it will not be risk rewarding depending on the race you play
My 1st idea was using that function to create an evolving map , where zone become accessible as far as the game progress , opening new path and new potential to adapt your strategy. Even if it means trashing up the idea of raising the lava again in some places.
Regardless , I am absolutely no expert when it comes to map making and balancing. And I am sure that if you guys find some ideas with using this feature, that can provide both entertainment and balance you will use them. And that simple idea keeps me excited , especially when I see the amazing job you done so far , I love Enigma this map really has something special.

hope blizzard sees it! and uses these maps in future... i like them at least

Why is there only 1 camp and so many of them ? (4 geysers too , that's a lot) They are not filled. They are like I think 1/4 of the normal starting resources (I'll have one of the mapmakers come in a minute and give exact #'s). So basically the middle just becomes a very quick "boost" of minerals if you will. There is very few spots for defensive structures and it won't last long. It's basically a high risk, high reward expansion. Unless you're Terran :/ Not much room for Missle Turrets however. With 4 ledges things like Void Ray and Muta snipes could be viable. Expos with ledges like that will always, unconditionally, favor Terran. Can you imagine that thing with tanks on the high ground, vikings, and thors and M&M on the lowground within the mineral line? The only thing zerg could do is get broodlords.
You could remove the high grounds at the central expo and make it open, but that would favor zerg. Perhaps the high ground just needs to be slightly smaller or perhaps only have 2 ledges instead of 4.

Hey whatever happened to Sin Chupung-Ryeong
that map was really sexy

I would really like to see blizzard pick up some of these maps for ladder. Would be a nice change from the current ones.

that map was really sexy god I used to hate that map in BW way too small and horrible. But I like the look on these maps, will deferentially try them out in custom ^^ Too bad I cant post on the US forums to support this idea ^^

I've been trying to organize and clean-up an amateur monthly tournament through the battle net forums and been thinking about using non-ladder maps eventually just to keep things fresh. Anyway I can can get in contact with the Iccup Map Makers team or web managers to discuss a coop to increase exposure for the tournament + Iccup maps through our streams + casts.
