We've conducted a big interview with TT1 over at FnaticMSI... talking in depth about his experience before, during, and after MLG Dallas.
TT1 was prepared to not attend MLG Dallas, and almost chose not to go, "I was really angry at the fact that my flight was scheduled on Wednesday while the tournament began on Friday, because I had an important class that day and felt alot of pressure trying to balance out my school and gaming. Especially when the problem could have been avoided with better scheduling" Toghyan says about the reason why he didn't want to go. He however concedes that it was his own fault.
"The only person to blame for that whole ordeal was me because I failed to specify any flight time preferences to the team prior to the booking".
"Not being able to practice a whole lot before MLG also played a factor in me not wanting to attend the event but when I learned that we coudn't get a refund on the plane tickets I decided to go, which luckily turned out to be the right choice" he says with a smile.
On handspeed and PvZ...
"I started the tournament off by pulling out close wins vs nrg.vibe and nrg.newshb after losing the first game to both players. They're both really underrated players but I just didn't feel like myself during those matches.
As I progressed into the tournament I felt my handspeed picking up, but it was when I managed to beat SEn in a macro game on Blistering Sands that everything started to click for me.For some reason that win made me really confident and I could feel my play go up considerably after that match".
"My main problem at LAN events has always been consistency - that being said this was my third LAN event - but after the win against SEn, I started believing in myself. I started believing that I was able to compete with top class players.
I have always believed in myself as a player but my problem was transitioning my play to offiline matchs, where I never felt comfortable. In a way I think it was just a mental hurdle that was blocking my way.
Even though his three PvZ-wins in a row sent Toghyan through the bracket in style, he is still very modest about the specific matchup.
"I dont think my performance was a product of me having godlike PvZ or anything; it was simply because I started to play alot better. The fact that I had alot of Zerg opponents gave people the impression that my PvZ was really strong. I'm sure it's decent but I don't think it's necessarily better than my PvT for example".
On Nerves...
"I woke up early because I felt somewhat nervous. I then spent like one hour underneath the shower just to get my head straight and to relax - thanks to the guys for not bugging me during that longass shower by the way! I then went down to the hotel lobby and had some breakfast with the rest of the team and then made my way to the MLG venue afterwards".
"As I walked into the venue I remember them broadcasting my pre MLG interview with JP on the big screen, which made me do a 180 and walk back in the opposite direction because I thought the interview was pretty horrible - it was my first live interview and I didn't like the outcome. When the interview was over I made my way into the sc2 area and said hi to everyone. I then went to my pc station and installed my gear, fixed my settings, gave a 'gl hug' to Machine and we started playing".
On Jinro's Win...
"At the time I felt robbed but it was out of my control. I felt like I definetly would have won that game" Toghyan says when recalling the situation. He doesn't blame Jinro for calling the regame however and explains that he think the best player won the tournament.
"If I actually did deserve to win the event, then I should have had no problem winning the regame. The right way to handle that situation would have been to refocus myself on the task at hand, but instead I was pouting like a little baby in my head and I got what I deserved".
"I'm honestly happy that Jinro won because it is one of my main beliefs that the player that plays the best during a tournament deserves the win - and he definetly showed that during our matchs. He simply outplayed me. I didn't deserve to win the series, but I learned from my mistakes and I'm sure I will come back a stronger player the next time".
