I think this feature should be in the game.. everybody has the ability to set a clock next to their monitor.. might as well put it in game.
As for the "lowering the skill cap" argument, I think "time sense" is more a function of time spent playing than actual time.
I am very opposed to things that lower the cap of useful knowledge and skill, but all in favor of things that lower the cap of time spent playing needed.

People platinum or below have serious mechanical issues, what might happen is simply that they know they are suppose to attack at time X, only to realize that they don't have enough units at that time because they got supply stucked or has 1000 dollars in the bank. So, all it might end up doing is tell the lower level players that they have fucked up their build yet again.
Do you really think people below diamond are THAT bad? I believe you would have to go to the very depths of bronze before you found a person sitting around with 1000 minerals at the 5 minute mark...
It amazes me how blind some of the people in this community are when it comes to talking about players below diamond..
But back on topic.. I think the addition is ok. It allows newer players to have something to keep track of their timings with while not effecting top players in the slightest. Why is their an issue with this again?

anyone if they really wanted could have had a stopwatch when they started the game before patch 1.1

Now I wonder if BOs will be listed as following:
0:00 probe 0:17 probe 0:34 probe 0:56 pylon 1:10 probe 1:27 probe & chrono boost nexus 1:44 probe 2:03 probe 2:20 gateway etc...
instead of the good old
9/10 pylon 14/19 gateway
ps: timings were made up. i sure hope that if they add this you still have the choice to see the food count You do realize that right now it shows both on the build order under match history.

Don't see it as terribly game changing. Will be nice to be able to look at the timing of a push and make a judgment on their structures based on army comp.
|
This can really help in single player though. I've been in those situations of not knowing how much time left for an achievement. Using this, i can tell how much more time i have left.
|
there are a lot of timing attacks that come at more-or-less predefined times - if you know a zerg who gets mutas ASAP gets them at 6:00, then you can say hmm well he got zergling speed so that should delay those mutas for a bit. seems good imo
|
It's a clock, it's not the end of the world, you still need to scout, change the supply count for a clock time, not a big deal, this will be more helpful to zerg than other races as we can keep track of the larvae inject timings easier, glance at the clock once in a while and inject in time.

now people will scan when the baneling nest goes down so you cant baneling bust anymore :o
|
I think more people will trip over themselves because of this than actually getting any help from it. Useful it is though for practice sessions and such but in a competitive setting or when laddering, not sure.
|
Anything that makes this game more accessible to your average gamer is a plus. The more average gamers who are in to SC, the more $$$ can be put behind pro players.
I'm interested to see if the clock will also be available in replays (counting up from zero instead of in a format giving away the end-time). As a caster, I think this will give players a way to better approach, evaluate and appreciate good skill or aggressive play.
Instead of OMG fast expansion, or SUPER EARLY Thor, we can actually use the time. Over time, timing benchmarks will evolve which we can use to measure how 'early' or 'late' something is.
I think this is a fantastic change.

I really liked it.
it will help everyone to be prepaired for all-ins.

I can probably find people IN diamond that have 1k minerals at the 5 minute mark.

I'm shying away from the 6 pool and other all in cheese diamonds... I'm talking about people who actual play the game

i like this there have been a number of times when i have tried to look at the clock in game just to see what time it is, this is nice to see
|
I guess it could be nice for new players. Honestly can't see it making any difference to anyone else. Doubt tournaments will even need to bother banning it or anything.
|
This really does not change anything. I know i hade a stop watch in front of me and hit go at the start of games now i just have a stopwatch ingame and don't ahve to click the wacth on and off now.
It will not effect anything its not bad or good you could use stopwatchs allready if you wanted and some do like me : P

About time, every other RTS is existence has this already.
I remember in AoE1 being able to get 200/200 in about 5.5 minutes or so in NS DeathMatch.

oh god i feel retarded. my excuse will be that im at college and not really thinking about starcraft

well if people really put in the effort this might end up a bit like quake,. injectmain 06:45, injectnat 06:53 or whatever and then you go back at 07:05 and 07:13 respectively.
Realistically I mostly see this ending up as being more of a gauge for timing pushes.
About well there are people posting their 1k rating inba replays banking 5k resources with 121/121 so diamond leaves a lot to be desired, ps. I'm there and I'm bad (my bo's are such a mess :D).
