A new game clock has been added. Players can now instantly see how long they've been in their current mission or match. This feature can be turned on or off in the Gameplay Options menu.
Well this is an interesting feature in the new patch. This definitely has its pluses and minuses. Maybe worth a discussion...
So is this a good thing? Or a bad thing? Or should this be removed?
One thing that comes into my mind is that it will DEFINITELY help lower skilled players in terms of timing (either attack or know when an attack is coming) and doesn't help the higher skilled players more.
Discuss?

Help against timing pushes. Definitely. I think it's rather good for zerg as they want to spare as much time as possible on droning initially.

Why make a completely new thread for this feature :o

its an optional tool. I hope this is not allowed at LAN Tournaments.

i'm reserving my judgment until we see how it pans out

it sounds like fun for the casuals and good for the ppl who try to improve
top wont get helped or need this since they have other methods to see timing in the game than a silly clock with numbers on them ^^

I think i won't use it. Its useful so long the enemy does standard builds and perhaps certain triggers like 4:30 is the absolut first time a banshee could come (made this time up!). But i think when people focus to much on the ingame clock they will mess up when the enemy does sth out of the norm or changes little details to his build....
Well we'll see, perhaps i'm wrong and evrybody has now an easier time to find timing attacks....
Waiting for the first attack timers popping up: "Xlasl's 8:25 Timing Attack Strategy" and stuff like that

Stop makin' a big deal outta this thing boys. If this is so unbalanced then tournament organizers would simply prohibit its usage. Simple, alright?
Raynor out.

I hate this....It makes Top players training more insignificant

Why would tournaments disallow a feature added to the game by Blizzard from being used? That's like tournaments banning reapers because they are just "so annoying." Maybe tournaments should cover up your food counts too? Or maybe they should hide the bottom right of your screen where the build icons are; pros only use hotkeys and don't need those buttons right?

I'll have it on just to predict and react to the the infamous 4 gate all-in more precise.

I think it's one of those things that will get a lot of hate, but after a while all top players will know it cold. I'm guessing they're going to use the "normal" time thing which is going to be incredibly stupid.
Players can now instantly see how long they've been in their current mission or match. It's funny that this is 100% false since it's not time for people, it's time for the game which is 40% slower.

since bw u calculate your timing with resources or buildings. now is really REALLY exactly ^ ^ i think is a good option, but i think this will change the mechanics used till now.

I dont see it helping anyone to be honest. Some people might find it useful, great. Most people won't, that's fine too. Don't see why the option shouldn't exist!

Not that useful for high level players.
Good people time stuff relative to what their opponent is DOING, not just the arbitrary start of the match...

I think this isn't really true, stuff happens in the game, and knowing the timings lets you adjust to weirdness, it will make the early game pretty easy to time out though, but there's a lot of starcraft past the first 5 minutes of a game despite what 99% of "strategy" posts are about.

I think it's nice as a learning tool, but at the top it doesn't matter that much. Neat feature, anyway.

I think given that the server is just a couple hours from coming back up, we should wait and see the thing before having an in-depth discussion about it.

I think it will be much more useful for team games. It can be hard to coordinate timing attacks, since things tend to be move out now when a key upgrade may still be in use. This will allow players to pick a time so you can tell team mates lets hit at 6:12 and they can know that that they need to have upgrades timed to finish then and spend the rest on units.
I like it, doesn't hurt anything, and it isn't like you couldn't run a timer on another screen or beside you to replicate this feature if you wanted it.

I'm not sure if it would really help the lower skilled players. People platinum or below have serious mechanical issues, what might happen is simply that they know they are suppose to attack at time X, only to realize that they don't have enough units at that time because they got supply stucked or has 1000 dollars in the bank. So, all it might end up doing is tell the lower level players that they have fucked up their build yet again.
or better yet, it might make certain lower level players put too much emphasis on absolute time. For example, a player hates dying to an attack at time X, so he gears everything towards preparing for that timing instead of focusing on scouting etc, and as a result their opponent might not be going for that attack and pulls ahead economically (and thus causing our player here to lose even more games than usual etc).
I'm not sure if it would actual affect higher level play that much. In game decision triggers aren't necessarily based on absolute time, as it is based on what your opponent is doing etc.
