You can already be really exact with the time by checking the remaining mineral/gas count on your resources. Most broodwar progamers don't do timing attacks based on food. Instead they check the mineral count at their expo or main and do "a timing push when I have 900 minerals at a mineral patch at my expo." Despite the fact that, for years, progamers talked about doing this, 99% of players still relied on food timings (ie I do a push at 77/85 food). This isn't a bad thing, but it bothers me that such players ignore the mineral/gas timings, a timing effectively equivalent to having an in-game clock. As far as I'm concerned, an in-game clock a good thing! At the very least, I don't have to do any of my goofy conversions anymore ![]() If everything happenes exactly according to your plan, then yes, you're able to time your attack based on your mineral count. The problem is that no two games are the same, which just means it is not PERFECT/EXACT. This also means that you are unable to perfectly account for your opponent's timings, not through your mineral count nor your food count. Basically, I agree very much with Pop's arguments in this thread, but I wonna stress one. Yes, this is incredibly useful to your gameplay, since it enables you to figure out timings. But the question is not whether it's useful or not - maphack would hopefully improve your play aswell. My concern is that the game basically gets less exciting. BUT, where Pop kept saying that he is making it sound like a bigger deal than it is, I think this is a huge fucking deal! It will make the game very predictable, not only to the players, but to the viewers aswell. + Show Spoiler +

this just evens up the playing field at higher level, and it does help casuals. if the game is easier to learn, why is that a bad thing? broodwar was pretty much exclusive to nerds because it was too hard to learn. also i'll add that team games saying "attack on 7min" would be more organised than "gogogogoggogggogo".

Since I'm a noob it gives you a certain security knowing: "Ok, I have exactly that many seconds/minutes to prepare for the obligatory X-rush"... It also gives you passive scouting information if for some reason you couldn't/didn't get your own scout off. eg: "Ok, the Reaper-Window has passed by now, obviously he's doing something else..." For the real pros it won't make any difference anyway and I'm sure there was people in the past that used a stop-watch to do the same... So don't be a dick about it. I bet it's the EXACT same morons that used to say "Auto-mine?!?!?! WTF??? World is ending!!!!"

I tend not to play with build orders, but rather like: "Ok, I have that and that, drone is building, supply is cool, I have 80 mineral, let's build the gas..." So it's great to have when I'm not bound by a build order... It also helps me time my expansion better... If it's past X and I haven't got an expansion up yet time to do it quick... Overall this will be HUGE!!!! Bigger than 80% of you guys can imagine... I give it 2 weeks till guys like Day[9], Husky and HD use it ROUTINELY to give certain timings and so on... Obviously supply will still be important, but that clock will become AS important as supply-number for later game....

Obviously, I will only use this clock for the time window 00:00 -> first fight/good scouting opportunity. Once you actually interact with you oppo/scout, the clock sounds kind of useless to me... Overall: useful, harmless, and probably very cheap to implement for blizzard=>awesome!

If you want to use a clock while playing, no matter if on your desk or installed as programm on your pc, you can use it. LEGAL. Cause it does nothing with your sc2. Of course its redundant now anyway..
