The older episodes that are truly great (horse episode) have a lot less of JP trying to poorly lead a discussion, and a lot less of him talking in general.
This is not a coincidence. Because its his fucking show

This is not a coincidence. inb4 red message Dude, you are wrong. Go listen to the first SotGs which were the funniest of all. JP was (and still is) the true playmaker. His humor is subtle, but that makes it even better. I feel like nowadays there's just too much other work on the heads of the pillars, that's all.

And he's slowly killing it.
He has literally no personality.
He is "a voice" reading "some words". Anybody could go on there and perform exactly the same function with exactly the same level of success.
Here is the interview question for that position "Do you speak in a constant monotone? Nope? Awesome, you're better than JP"

It doesn't take a genius to see that SOTG isn't what it used to be.

Damn, that looks amazing.

In a lot of ways, it usually "set the stage" for the entire week, you'd get an idea about rivalries, fun matchups coming up and would occasionally learn something. Now all they do is talk about tournament results. The way the show is now, I feel like JP could do it completely on his own, just read off bullets about who won and lost in what tournaments. It's pretty much a shittier SC2report, except that guy totally understands what his niche is.
What is completely baffling to me is the way that everyone and their mother seems interested in helping SOTG ( I would even be willing to pay for it honestly) but the lack of regular episodes, the lack of communication, and in general the declining quality of the discussion has really hurt it.
SOTG used to be the show to watch. It let you know what to watch, why to watch it, and why it was going to be important. It was really a cornerstone of the community. It just isn't anymore.
I really hope that we see some more regularity from the show, and less little "exhibition" type events (like the sundance thing, or the recent lone star "SOTG"). A lot of the recent things produced have been excellent supporting content to SOTG, but without the actual show they just fall flat.
I hope this doesn't come across as too critical, but the show is really something I love and I know it means a lot to the community. It would be a shame to see it waste away.
Trying to put a positive spin on this....maybe the lack of regularity in episodes is a sign of how much eSports has grown over the past year or so. MLG has now added the Arenas, Day9 is involved with way more tournaments, Artosis of course has the GSL (and let's not forget he's a father now). Compare it to a year ago when there wasn't as many things going on at the same time. Maybe the show is hurting a little bit but the fact that these guys are a hell of a lot busier these days is a good thing for the future of SC2.

I feel like sotg is slowly dying. I really loved the old eps, and these days it just feels lackluster because it always ends quickly, guests are missing, schedule is inconsistent, and conversation gets smothered.
I hope JP & co. can appreciate I'm not trying to bitch or troll or insult them, I'm just trying offer up an explanation for why I'm losing interest in the hopes they can change. In all likelihood they probably know all these things but thought I'd throw it out there anyway in case the way I phrased it sends it home any better.

In fairness, it was probably a large contributing factor to why he got hired by MLG.

Not to mention that doing something voluntarily is not free license to do it as badly as you want and get away with it. If he can't handle SotG anymore, give it up and pass the mantle to someone who isn't so busy with, uh, some MLG stuff, I guess.

Yes because we all know MLG only operates during tournaments. Every other day of the year they're just on vacation doing nothing, right?

Seriously, the haters get so old. Every time there is a gap in state of the game, the come here and cry how JP should just give sotg to the community, or some stupid shit. I'm sure they can get all of the pillers on their replacement podcast.

I'm not saying JP doesn't work hard. I'm just sad the show I really like, and the show that was part of the reason JP got where he is, is so inconsistent these days. It's too bad.
edit: labeling people as trolls isn't conducive to a rational discourse.

I hope SotG doesn't go anywhere, it's the only time we ever see tyler Does he even play anymore? Seems like Tyler has dissapeared

I think you should read your previous comments and then ask your self "Is this guy talking about me? Did I post something reasonable that voiced my concerns without sounding entitled or bitchy?" I can tell you now, I was not talking about you.
Also, trolls are what they are. Attempting to have rational discourse with them is a waste of time. It is better to mock they troll like ways and support SotG and the folks who put it together.

I love SotG! Please continue it, without it I'd probably lose interest in SC2 altogether.

He was with MLG before the show, just not full time.

JP got where he is before the show even got popular
