The show was literally planned 15 minutes prior to going on air and I'm in NYC with zero SotG assets except for the vid intro and intro/outro music -- no art. Production was terrible but the content was there and I would of rather have the exclusivity (LOL) / timeliness of the topic rather then waiting a week to discuss it.

It doesnt matter if the community is right with what they are complaining about or not, you just have to deliver, thats what people in all kind of media have to deal with. Either you can deal with that or you are the wrong guy to be in front of a camera. Hahahaha, why don't you message MLG's sponsors and bring MLG down, and then when you're at it... User was warned for this post (unnecessary flaming) This type of response with generalizing an entire community (when it's really the vocal minority that are being the problem here) is not a good way of vindicating yourself or making yourself look better to the people who actually love your show and watch it faithfully (like I do). I was just checking the thread today to see when the next show was and didn't even know there was a problem with us people being "so fucking ignorant and ungrateful." All in all I am thankful you do your show JP. If you really do hate the minority of this community so much then please leave. It won't help anyone but at some point you have to look at what your own choices mean to you. As for "making people/tournaments/organizations drop all interactivity in social media" maybe you should realize that the majority of tournaments and interactivity is actually being promoted and not decaying in any sort of meaningful way. The problems people are having with the label of this particular SotG is that it really wasn't one. Maybe it should have been called SotG - Sundance Exclusive or something? I don't know. Please stop reading these forums so closely and then picking out only the negative opinions. There is constructive feedback in these threads hidden among the trash and it would be wise to consider the community is not full of morons like so many of the players and casters make it out to be. Thank you for what you do for the community but the non-professional responses to these types of problems only exacerbates them.
This.
One of my hopes, like many of us on TL, is for eSports to be a legitimate, professional environment. Posts like yours do not support that hope. JP, as a very public figure in the esports community, you need to be able to handle these trolls. Seriously. This comes with the territory whether you like it or not. I genuinely enjoy your work and I know that you work your ass off to bring free content to people. That's why it becomes all the more heartbreaking to see these angry posts from you claiming the entire community is behaving stupidly. This reminds me a bit of when HD started looking at all the hate he was getting for his casting during IPL4.
You need to have a thick skin, that's all I can say. Either read the comments and take from them what you will or do what you feel is right and let people deal with it. Either way I'll support you and State of The Game by watching, commenting and doing whatever I can to promote it.

You're fortunate to have JP, and other players and progaming representatives, involved in the community in a direct and personal manner. If you abuse that privilege, expect to be called out on it. If you want professional spokespeople, then enjoy your complete and total separation from every progaming figure in the industry, apart from extremely carefully worded announcements and press releases.
oldie8 has no point. If he wants to be treated like a customer talking to an employee, then he'd better call up MLG's support services and talk to their help desk. You don't get to act like a whiny, spoiled brat to a person, and then start pretending that it's their job to be polite to you.

JP is human too. So you need to understand that when someone puts out free content inbetween work only get pages of trash talk, they have a breaking point. I agree with the sentiments of public figures needing to be able to cope with certain ugly aspects of the community, but the community also needs to kind of deal with the trolls as well since they are usually the loudest and more off putting aspects of the community.

It was discussed on state of the game before that the community should not let people get away with producing low quality content for it to mature. Tyler in particular was vocal about it if I remember correctly.
And then we have this completely unprepared show, opening up with a title image drawn in paint, connecting an interviewer to his interviewee while auditable on a train, cutting out often. Sorry, it was just completely bad and that has nothing to do with the 'community'.

You're just sad person, aren't you? Because i tuned in happy that Sundance will be questioned, that i will hear Incontrol's opinion on it. There could be a picture of shit as a title image, i wouldn't care. It doesn't define the quality of the show. All of them could be in train, i wouldn't care, i would have more respect for them even for putting this up in such conditions. This also doesn't define the quality of the show. What does? Well, something You don't know what means, which is content. Obviously, You didn't tune in for content and You sound like You watch SOTG only to criticize it's production value, which leads us back to the beginning, that You are that sad part of the community.
|
Didn't they partner with gamespot or something? Or was that just MLG?
|
It always ends up turning into a shitfest when it comes to online communities. When people have an outlet to give out their opinions and be somewhat anonymous, all the shit flies towards the fan on most occasions simply due to the fact that the people themselves have anonymity to fall back on, thus allowing them to run away from being responsible for their own statements when they get called out on their bullshit. They're the keyboard warriors that show up frequently on the internet.
Basically, when you see a PM or a post that looks like it doesn't have anything constructive or any substance to it besides blatant hate and / or trolling, just delete it or ignore it. Knowing how to skim through messages to see whether it's safe or not before fully inspecting it is a standard that should be kept, especially for people that are more well-known in the community and have names for themselves. I know you and InControl get a lot of shit (and InControl has admitted that it has depressed him), but don't let shit like that ruin your day. There's more than just haters and trolls in this board. You just need to know how to sift through the shit in order to see them.

Holy shit I missed alot of drama. I blame the Reddit community. I do miss the older days when TL was more tight knit and not filled with children.
|
I remember when someone expressing the opinion that something was a bit shitty wasn't 'drama' it was just people discussing what they thought. People's lives must be fucking boring if they consider this drama.
"What did you think of that new Bond movie?" "It was ok but when they did that zoom-in of the watch I thought it was a joke. Product placement like that is sad." "OMGZ DUDE WHY YOU CREATING DRAMA JAMES BOND IS GREAT!" "..."
|
JP, you're a sick nerd baller of enormous magnitude. I hope you get some more free time to bring back the best show in eSports in full force and until then these smaller shows you're putting out are awesome. Thank you very much most recently for bringing Sundance on to elucidate some more on the MLG-Kespa partnership, it was great to hear iNcontroL asking him excellent questions so we could learn more about it.
This is all I have to say.

The point was that JP got pissed after some asshole decided it was a good idea to PM him with hate mail, and that JP lashed out in this thread after another person wrote a dumb comment that he saw as soon as he entered this thread. To put it simply, he snapped.
He has then apologized for generalizing his audience (us) as mostly stupid whining idiots or whatever he previously wrote, as he recognized the fact that this wasn't true.
I don't think you actually read through the thread, or at least read the posts regarding this whole matter.
