A faggot is actually a collection of sticks of wood tied together, which is then used as fuel for a fire.
The term will be harmless and inoffensive when LGBT people are treated equally and not discriminated against. Unfortuntely in this day and age you can still be fired/kicked out the military/not allowed to marry/beaten up/killed for being gay.

As usual an awesome podcast and i am already looking forward to the next one :D No hate from me, people need to lighten up in here.

Completely related to ya know... the Cast. When are we getting the countdown to when Sean graduates? Someone get on that! TL featured thread and all.

Using faggot as a real insult is a problem. Using it in an absurdly obvious fake hate kind of way like these people do is fine.
Besides, it's a hilarious word, South Park has taught us that.

You're crazy. If you're really from NL you probably don't understand the context of this word, and if you aren't then you're inexcusably ignorant. I used to toss around these LGBT smears when I was in HS until one day I did it in front of someone who was brave enough to confront me. Now that I'm 24 I actually understand how hurtful it can be to say these things and even though I still slip up sometimes I'm quick to correct myself. Anyone who thinks these words are acceptable in every-day conversation are going to be in for a rude awakening when they move out into the world.
Wow, you must be a blast to hang out with. It's a good thing people who are actually funny or entertaining don't listen to people like you.

I think swear words when used at the right times can be really humorous. You shouldn't take offence if you are gay when somebody says to a friend on a videogame podcast ''faggot''

I can't believe how far this thread has gone off the tracks. Where is cock horse to restore sanity and reason?

(Edit: If you have the time and care about this, go read it now, and then come back and finish this post. It's better than what I have to say anyway.) I did read it and I thoroughly disagree with the type of thinking that leads to arguments like that. At the end of the day, grow a thicker skin. Wait, shit, now I offended scleroderma sufferers. The point being made in Tropic Thunder is served by the use of that word. The word "retard" started out as descriptive and neutral. It was turned into a shorthand derogatory term for mentally disabled people. You can invent euphemisms like "special" or "differently abled", but they become sarcastic derogatory terms. Can you really tell your friend that they're "special" these days without having to caveat that you don't mean "that kind of special"? The problem isn't the words we use, the problem is the attitude we have towards mentally disabled people. Shuffling around terminology doesn't change that in the slightest. To stop using "retard" as a derogatory term is exactly a part of changing attitude towards mentally disabled people, in fact, it's the first step. Same with "fag". You should be able to understand that.
I just explained why changing the language doesn't change the underlying problems.
"Gay" is the politically correct term we're all supposed to use, yet it's an absolutely universal slang word for "lame", which, by the way, means "crippled" originally.
Tiger Woods was lambasted in the UK press because he called himself a "spaz" after playing a poor game. That word is completely innocuous in the US, but in the UK it's apparently even more offensive than "retard", because "spaz" is short for "spastic", which means "sufferer of cerebral palsy".
Making a fuss over words is what gives things like "fag" a more overt negative connotation. And those words are used as catch-all expletives regardless of their meaning.
An example of an actual attitude change that goes beyond words is the use of "jew" for a stingy or financially deceitful person. It doesn't matter whether you use the actual proper name for an ethnic group, or whether you use a racial slur, what matters is the bigotry it stands for. This usage is dying out because the general culture is becoming intolerant towards racial/ethnic bigotry.
"Fag" may or may not stick around as an insult, but for the general concept of "homosexuality is shameful" to go away, there needs to be a generation or two of actual equality.
I'm not defending the use of that term in a public podcast, but I just think fighting against specific slurs is idiotic.
That last word, which is certainly a politically correct insult these days, used to be a medical term for "severely mentally retarded person". The current meaning of "idiot" is actually closer to the original derogatory term than the gamer use of "fag" is to homosexuality.

This really isn't the place to debate the use of words like "fag" and "retard," if people don't like the use of the words, mentioning that should be fine, but c'mon, this is a thread about SotG podcast, a free source of SC fun from the progamer perspective, if you don't like the words used, you aren't forced to listen. Giving constructive criticism isn't the same as derailing a thread arguing about sensitive topics

Speaking from experience, this is incredibly more difficult than one would expect. I find that when I happen to lapse into a state of "chilling" that I almost inexplicably find food to mindlessly munch upon during the episode.
I personally believe we need Tyler's practiced hand to reveal some of his techniques and practice routines regarding his renowned "chilling."
Edit: I have a bad urge to watch TL:A S3E1 for some reason. Recommended.

Some people are absolutely ridiculous. You listen to a podcast and then you notice 1 TINY inconsistency, so you find the exact time in the feed that you heard it and go and post a huge analysis on teamliquid about it, when in reality...NOBODY GIVES A FUCK! Nobody cares that he said faggot, nobody cares about their opinion on the matches (well of course we do, but not to the point where we're gonna criticize about it) because it's all about entertainment. You're all making the community look bad by being a bunch of butthurt nerds. When a comedian says something like "fag" do you stop listening to him? No. You don't. So just smile and learn to live a little guys, you're not going to get some sort of life achievement for proving inc wrong, in fact you'll probably just get banned.
Anyways, thanks a ton for doing this guys. Nothing is better to me after a long ass day of training than loading up this podcast and just laying in bed. And then when I'm finished I feel like I neeeeed to play more before I sleep.

I'm basically immune to the interweb because of a few sites I won't mention here. Not getting trolled by Incontrol, but at times he just seems flat out stupid. Like hes a real friggin redneck. Its kind of tiresome to listen to at times. Besides that great show!

Great cast as always guys. DO NOT change a thing. Let the haters hate.

To those hoping/complaining about the smears and general language used in the podcasts. You really need to accept what SoTG is and not expect THAT much out of it. In the end , it is what it is, a few gamers with personalities talking shit on a talk show.
Is it funny? Yes. Is it fun to listen to? Yes. Do you laugh everytime you listen to it? Most probably yes. Should you take it seriously? No. Would you take a comedian seriously? Don't think so. Is it a show that would make people accept gaming even a little bit more? No. Is it a show that would make companies/sponsors look and think this game is worth looking at? No. Will it help E-Sports community grow at all? Most probably not. But is it fun for anyone to listen to that already is in/understands the community? Yes.
In the end they aren't getting paid for it, and it's pretty obvious even they themselves don't take it seriously, so why should viewers. Take it as it is , just pure fun for fans.
