One question: Why does it list only like half a million players, I thought SC2 sold already more than a million? And everyone has to register online? | ||

Many would consider the singleplayer alone to be well worth the purchase. | ||

Two parts, one is just time, there's a finite limit to how fast I can pull data and process it. A lot of it is also there's no 'true' way of finding random characters, right now I cascade spider, which finds a lot of players but it's not perfect. Once I add support for random leagues it will probably jump up a bit more. As Dionyseus said, not everyone does leagues. Still adding new characters pretty quickly thought, in 3 hours (since posting this topic) 205 new divisions have been found, and 45,000 characters. Should hit a million by Monday. Quick (possibly noob) question though..... I played in the beta a little but my system needs an update so badly that since release, I've just been buried in the single player for the time being. I searched for my name on your site to see if anyone else was also using it. I thought I had found some dude in Russia using the same name but from following the link to the battlenet profile, it turns out that it's actually me. I thought this very bizarre as I haven't yet completed placement, and I'm not from Russia. On further examination, I think that it's actually showing some old data from the beta, when I had a stalker for my image, and had 50 games played. What's really interesting is that once I've followed the link and I'm there on my battlenet profile, I can click my image and it updates to 0 games played, no placements etc., which is accurate. - Is this just a glitch that exists because I haven't placed yet? - What gives your database the impression I'm from Russia? ;-) - Will placement fix this? - Could this beta information be 'tainting' the stats? - (other questions) Thanks | ||

I can see no reason why someone would add me. I'm quite old and don't know anyone personally that plays SC2. It is simply there dude, and is searchable. I'm showing in your Russian rankings with a win rate and everything, this must surely affect stats, even if there's only a small number of these glitches??? Thanks for your time. | ||

Keep it running It's pulled from the armory through cascade spidering, Blizzard 'allows' it in that they could probably shut it down if they really wanted, but they won't. Armory sites have been around for years through the WoW Armory and they haven't shut any of those time. Cascade spidering is this: You take a profile, say http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/profile/440365/1/MacabreDerek/ladder/leagues and you record everyone in that players division, then you spider each of those 99 players profiles and you repeat. Repeat that for every character who manually enters their name and you can grow a pretty large database off very little information.
