I was looking at the page to download the client that will be activated on july 27th. There I can choose my region, that is Latin America, and choose the language I want the game to be. However there's only spanish and portuguese to choose.
I'm stuck with spanish and portuguese? I want the game in its original language, come on! So I sent an email to blizzard asking for options to solve this issue. This is their answer:
The game is locked to specific geographical regions. Based on region, is how you get the language for the download. If you want a US NA copy you would need to buy a boxed copy and have it shipped. Darin O. Customer Services Blizzard Entertainment www.blizzard.com/support
That is simply wonderful. I would never play this game in other language besides english.
Not sure what to do then.

Can't you just create a new account where you specify a North American country as your location?
|
I'll tell you what to do. Buy a boxed copy and have it shipped. Like the e-mail says.
|
didnt they say you can dl different clients/language packs?
|
OMG... This would be just too much for me. I wouldn't buy the game then.
|
I think his concern is maybe latency issues due to different regions?
|
Can't you just buy the game in example from UK or USA? The region lock is determined from your Bnet account so you can just buy an english version of the game and play it in Latin America.

ill post this again, i want a response on one of these forums regarding this eventually... Where is everyone getting this information? like sources etc... as the last i heard is that it is locked by region and the only packs you can download are those available for your region. So if your region only has Spanish, Portuguese that is all you can get...

I asked him if i could download a North American version of the game and activate it in my region. He answered me that: I can't because the download is based on region.
Maybe I am stuck and will have to buy from USA or UK and wait a few weeks, more taxes, to have the game I want. I really can't believe this is how they're doing business.

I can, but as Blizzard is always pointing out, I won't have "the best online experience ever". I'm not sure how's the starcraft 2 community in Latin America will be, but for now, I just want to play listening to "Rock and Roll" and not "Samba, Bossa Nova, Carnaval amigos"

I'm not sure if you're being ironic, but have you ever played Starcraft in other language? Is pure crap. And more, everything SCI-FI in movies, games, series is in english. A marine speaking portuguese simply do not exist, it's a lie.

does the predownload require anything special? couldnt you just make a us acc,dl the client, buy the game, register on your real acc and then use the preload client?
also it seems like atleast us eu guys can dl in pretty much all languages then:

The game clients are region-locked - yes. Also, each region has a limited rage of client languages available to them.
HOWEVER, during the beta it was possible to install two clients, one for the region you want to play in, and one with the language you want to use, combine their data files, and use the language you want in the region you want. It is not yet confirmed that this will be possible with the full version (we'll know in a few days), but it worked just fine for the beta, and I don't suspect a large enough change to the client on launch to make this too difficult.
ALSO, Blizzard HAS said that while cross region-support will not be available at launch they ARE working on it. So, it may be worth it to get the NA client, and wait for cross region, or get the LA client, and mesh it with a NA download... I will be posting instructions for this as soon as I figure it out after launch.

In the beta you could also change clients to connect to whatever region you want. It's the same with WoW so I'm sure it's the same with SC2 come release. Just DL an english client from wherever and change the gateway to the server your account is on.
That is if you can't find another solution. I don't think combining data files or whatever the poster above mentions is a better solution though

I'll wait and see. I probably won't be playing SC2 at launch.
Thanks.

This is probably the best idea. Within a few days of launch, we should have a good idea of exactly how things actually work instead of just speculation on them.

Don't hold your breath. They said they'd do that for WoW and they still haven't.

the way activision is handling this is bullshit.

english is the international language so it would be bullshit if it did not apply here.

This is true. The Polish game will unlock the English Client, because they're both available languages in the EU region, however, English does not seem to be available in the Latin America region.
