So I bought an entirely new computer so that I could play SC2 better... and after reinstalling it and trying to login, I notice that the input delay is still there.

Is this supposed to be on purpose?

For the record, what I mean by input delay is the whole "press a button and wait a moment to see the game acknowledge that you indeed hit that button".

If so, wtf why haven't I seen other people complain about this?

Throwing ideas out of the blue...

Cheap Wireless Keyboard?
Is the input delay present everywhere?

How much RAM?
Graphic Card?

Refresh Rate on your Monitor?

Is it a USB Keyboard?
Do you have alot of USB Devices?
Do you have a USB Hub?

What's the point of posting a cheerleaders pic? Got too little attention as a child?

I'm also not sure about what input delay you're talking about. Seems fine for me.

I think he's from that 4chan place.

If you posted details about your hardware then we could help you?

On my laptop (which is not so good) I have maybe a .2 second delay when I deselect things from a group, which is extremely annoying. On my desktop (which is awesome) I still feel about a .05 delay when i deselect things. It's very barely noticeable, but when compared to playing bw which is instant, it's definitely there. If that's not what you're talking about, iono.

Battle.net has an inherent delay, that might be where your input delay is coming from despite upgrading your hardware.

Well, if you upgraded your computer (the last thing I'd consider the source of the problem here, by far more probable that input/display devices are the problem) and that didn't change things, I'd consider this: some monitors (cheap flat ones especially) have a significant display lag. What you perceive as input lag could also be display lag, so the stuff actually happens on time but you see the effects late.

The only really annoying delay I've noticed is that keyboard have a tendency to not respond correctly at the very start of a game. A lot of games I'm pressing "s" on the hatch a million times, and I it takes for ages to select the larvae. Some times I have to re-select the hatch (and yes, I have it selected originally). It's really strange.

It is one of the main reasons that made me stop SC2. Game is sooo sloppy even when you play UMS offline -.-

Have you enabled V-Sync and Triple Buffering? If so, you might want to try and turn that off since it can cause input lag sometimes.

Eh, honestly, I think when you play UMS offline it's almost perfect. It does illuminate the problem of playing online tho - it's basically like LAN vs low lat in SC1, but slightly less noticeable.

Ejac on his laptop he has delay. Most laptops that use shared VRAM have SEVERE input delay from USB devices. You really shoulda bought a good gaming laptop, atleast one of the HIGH END asus ones, or alienware. Many lower end ($1600) have terrible input lag and it's something you cannot fix and something you should have researched before purchasing. You can do absolutely nothing about that input lag. And to your desktop (0.05 input lag) thats just norming MS lag, I bet if you played on the map creator you would not feel it at all. Sorry to say it man, but you bought the wrong laptop, or atleast if you can try to upgrade it to having a dedicated video card without shared ram. When i bought my gaming laptop, (An m17) I researched long and hard, you really have to get high end laptop or you're going to see input lag a recurring problem with most gaming laptops. A close friend of mine has the exact same problem as you do with starcraft 2, I think its because starcraft 2 tries to use all free ram to quicken the game up (Mine used close to 3.5GB of ram during the beta. i got 6gb, 1.5 on windows or such) So this might be causing the problems. If you can find a program which can limit the amount of ram starcraft uses it will probably fix your problem.

Blizzard programmed it that way. At least a little bit.

I don't remember the exact numbers, but Blizzard confirmed that there is intended to be a small input lag. It was reduced in one of the patches, but not taken out completely.

Cofo, i believe the reason was to limit the capabilities of macro programs. Putting in an innate delay makes them less good, as you have to deal with managing delays more.

125 ms delay + 50 - 150ms real delay to server + 500 ms delay from keyboard inputs

Means UMS games using keyboard inputs will never be playable on Battle.net

Half a second from Keyboard Inputs?
Where do you take your numbers? What is it based off?

And what is the first 125 ms delay about? I'm confused.

Can you be slightly more specific? When I right-click the game acknowledges my mouseclick instantly (as demonstrated in game by the green cursor marker). If I am online the units will still not change direction for x amount of seconds, but if playing offline (eg running a map from the editor) the action takes place instantly.

Are you saying that the game does not even acknowledge that you have clicked/keypressed instantly? (system lag) Or that it does but there is a delay before the units respond (network latency).

I think he's talking about games that use WADS controls. Actual keyboard inputs as opposed to hotkeys, which do have an absurd delay.

edit: and the 125ms is the artificial delay bnet adds, although that wont be added to the real delay. Basically if your ping to bnet is less than 125 it artificially delays it to 125. To make it more fair or some crap

most likely due to your graphics card/ram.. I had major input delay (like 2 seconds when typing my email to log into BNet) for the first 2 months before I got my new card. Now its alright.

ummm... LOL, ok... where to begin with this one.

My laptop, yes there is a delay. It is not a gaming laptop, I never intended to play sc2 on it. I have installed sc2 on it just because, and I've opened up and realized the delay, but again, I don't play on it. I was simply stating there was a .2 second delay on it because it was relevant to the original post. I'm glad you bought your gaming laptop, I hope you enjoy it. I personally could not think of a bigger money pit than gaming laptop, but to each his own. At $1600 (your low end), I could build myself a second desktop that would crush basically all gaming laptops out there, and a nice $400-500 100% portable laptop.

Yes, I realize the .05 input lag is normal, and I don't expect anyone to feel bad for me, but once again I was simply replying to the original post.

why on earth would they delay it to 125 ms ...what if in the future we get some quantum speed and everyone has 5ms or less, they're coding in flaws especially taking out LAN.... blizzard are so backward.
