SC2 asia region(s)?

Hey guys, I'm a little confused about Asia battlenet regions right now. For the actual game release, is SEA/AUS/NZ battlenet separate from the China/TW/Korea region? Cause I know which region I'd prefer to play in...

Historically, Oceanic regions have been tied to US servers to prevent a potential language barrier. SC2 should be no different, I predict.

People living in Australia playing SC2 Beta are currently routed to the US server. I assume it will be the same upon release.

On release we'll be on a server with South East Asians apparently. There were a couple of threads about a month ago. Sounds pretty shit though because if its in Singapore then we'll probably get as bad or only marginally better ping compared to a connection to the US. Not to mention having to play with South-East Asians.

Wow this sucks for them since they are further away from us than they are from the asian servers or even european.

I know a lot of Australians are at least already considering playing on US servers instead come release... especially since the oceanic server does not include China/Korea so there will probably be limited top tier players.

Personally I get a lot worse ping to asia servers as well. Also since the last patch, pings using UDP have been amazingly good (when server is working) to US servers.

Yep, apparently Australia will be on a South East Asia server with Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, NZ, probably a couple others that I don't remember. Not Korea/China tho.

Blizzard said that if you want to play on US servers you'd have to buy a US box, but I expect there will be a way around it (like there is in beta, and like there is in WoW).

I'd be very surprised if blizzard support didn't move account locations if you asked. Otherwise just make up a story about moving to US or going on holidays or some stuff.

(I'll probably buy a US box anyway, cheaper!)

why would they mix asian and english speaking countries? doesnt make sense.

it does make sense to have them routed to the US server. that or they can play amongst themselves.

I play on the US server from china on a 2MB connection and things work fine. If you can't speak korean, might as well go for the US server. Lag isn't really an issue.

Servers are confirmed in SG. So most likely AUS will be connected to those servers and not US anymore?

Any new information on this? I'm in Japan and I can play with people in Australia in the beta. My friends in Aust are buying "the Australian version" whatever that is, I'm buying the collector's edition off amazon (because it doesn't seem to be for sale anywhere in Japan or Australia that I could find), which I'm guessing is the US version.

So what does that mean? Does that mean I'll have to play on US servers and have lag/can't play with my friends in Asia and SEA?

I'm so confoozed... T.T

From what I can tell:

- keys are universal, ie. a battlenet key can be used from anywhere round the world
- players physically in SEA will be region locked to SEA (and not Asia, or the US region)

What I still can't tell is what happens when you buy a copy of SC2 from a country outside your region, ie. if an Australian-located player buys a US copy of SC2, what happens when they fire up. ?

(I've heard people mutter sotto voce that you can actually mess with things to enable you to play on any server regardless - is this true?)

Have to say I hate this whole thing. They go on about how they want to up "the social" in SC2, well great, region-locking aint doing it. Sigh.

I pre-ordered the collectors edition from EB games in Australia, although in the end if there are no chat channels I couldn't care what server I play on...
