The new Sc2gears is ready, but before release I'd like to ask a few questions regarding to Mac and Sc2.
1) On MAC OS-X what is the default installation folder of StarCraft 2 and what is the name of the file that launches StarCraft 2? For example on a 32-bit Windows this is: C:/Program Files/StarCraft II Beta And the file that launches StarCraft 2: StarCraft II.exe
2) On MAC OS-X what is the name of the autoreplay folder (where StarCraft 2 automatically saves replays? For example this folder on Win XP is: %USER_HOME%/My Documents/StarCraft II Beta/Replays/Recent On Win 7 and Vista: %USER_HOME%/Documents/StarCraft II Beta/Replays/Recent
3) On MAC OS-X what is the name of the map cache folder (where StarCraft 2 saves map file caches)? For example this folder on Win XP is: %USER_HOME%/AppData/Local/Blizzard Entertainment/Battle.net/Cache On Win 7 and Vista: %USER_HOME%/Local Settings/Application Data/Blizzard Entertainment/Battle.net/Cache
Thanks in advance.

I'm not home to look right now, but I can tell you one thing for sure - There is no "Default Installation Folder" for the Mac version... you drag'n'drop it from a disk image, which is standard practice for Mac installs. So, that's going to be variable. You'll probably want your program to prompt the user for a location.
|
1: application folder 2: your username folder or document 3: same as 2 (i dont see any reason for you to know this even if you are using the hack version without a key...)
|
The application is in Applications>Starcraft II Beta. There are some other directories in there that I don't know what they do (Mods, Logs, Battle.net, Versions, Support).
The other folders are in Documents>Blizzard>Starcraft II Beta. From that directory you have both the replays folder and the maps folder. The replays folder breaks down into its subsequent categories (multiplayer, recent, ect.) and the maps folder goes to Cache and then folders with weird names of letters and numbers.
Hope this helps.

As someone else mentioned, the user decides. It will probably be /Applications/StarCraft II Beta/

It will be /Users/%USER_NAME%/Documents/Blizzard/StarCraft II Beta/Replays

Perhaps it's /Users/%USER_NAME%/Documents/Blizzard/StarCraft II Beta/Maps/Cache/

Greetings!
I have a same era MBP with 2.5 ghz and a 512mb memory geforce mobile. On Win XP, SC2 ran with shaders at medium and most other things turned down, it would only rarely stutter during large 2v2 battles. It would however get so hot that it shut itself down after 4 games or so, I had to use an icepack to keep playing.
In Mac OS X, it is unplayable on the same detail settings, even in 1v1. I have everything turned down to minimum EXCEPT for textures and models. Textures, shaders, and models (basically death animations) have the largest effect in my opinion... it looks almost as good as shaders on medium on XP, and never stutters at all. Still annoying.

I have another question ... as the Mac version should be in OpenGL, it could run on linux in theory. I am going to work on this as soon as SC2 comes out, I will try it with a mac emulator first. I hope this works !
|
The fact that the client uses OpenGL as rendering engine does not make it linux-compliant at all.
Before rendering anything, you basically have to set up a rendering context, to link a window with a frame buffer. This is most likely done using the native OSX windowing API: Cocoa, which means not linux-compliant...

I actually wanted to try it with a MAC-emulator ...
|
I actually wanted to try it with a MAC-emulator ... ... which 1) is not legal: MacOS emulation has never been allowed since MacOS's licence explicitely require it to run on apple software only. 2) would require full opengl 2 virtualization: far from being usable.
conclusion: just install a windows partition

Can someone help me here
Im using Mac bootcamp and got 2 problem:
1) My mic doesnt work at all, i fix the sound which it get louder, but the Microphone seem never work, i test it in Control Panel, and it sound HORRIBLE like a MONSTER...

ok i just pre-ordered SC2 from gamestop and there is no mac download available. am i a total noob? or do i plug the code in at blizzards site?
|
Add the game in your battlenet account. Then manage the game, you'll have the possibility to download the windows or mac client.

|
i just totally cant use Microphone on Bootcamp
even yahoo or vent
|
If anyone is having troubles with their mic in bootcamp, I had the same thing and found a solution. I can use vent and everything now. I downloaded these drivers and use them instead:
