Hello, I haven't contributed much to the community but my friend(he goes by too many names) just discovered something while playing sc2 beta.
You can see roaches while they are burrowed and moving. They are shadows moving along the ground. I don't know if this was just added recently or been there since the beginning but when we tested it on ultra setting the enemy can clearly see them(but still can't shoot them without detection).
EDIT: So apparently you can see them burrow moving no matter the settings(if this is wrong correct me) I tried it on ultra and low settings, its hard to see but it is noticeable. Haven't tested non moving roaches or other units yet.

Nothing new, I think this was a patch 7 or 8 change.

The interesting thing would be: "Can you see the shadow on low graphics too?"
Can anybody confirm this?
|
It's not a big deal is it? Considering that you can see cloaked units (distortion of the air). Does this only work if the roaches move or does the same thing apply if they're standing still underground? Does this apply to other burrowed zerg units or only the roach?
|
don't see them on medieum
|
This is part of Blizzard's new deal with Intel - the shadows are only visible with every single setting put to "Ultra" ;-)

i don't think this is intended by blizz ...... maybe if they see this post they will fix this ..... just remember this is still beta , even though it looks more polished then most retail games : i mean just look at that piece of crap command and conquer series

I see them on high, I think it's because if you couldn't see something that was moving underground it would be weird.

I can see them on low. I'm not sure why some others can't.
EDIT: Also, its clearly intended. They want burrowed moving units to provide the same opportunity for players to see them as any cloaked unit.

I don't recall being able to see them when they don't move while on low/medium. Only time I can see them is when they move, you can clearly see the things moving underneath.

Well yes, this is what I meant. I don't know that you could see them at all while they're not moving no matter what graphics setting.

personally it hink this needs to be the case. its just like seeing an observer or a dark templar or a cloaked ghost/banshee. there is absolutely no reason not to see burrowed units moving. i mean... have you never seen the movie 'tremors' ? there is clearly earth displacement when something is moving underground
|
Yeah its similar to the invisible units slightly blurring the screen where they are, although I think the blur is easier to see then the slight ground discoloration.
|
There doesn't seem to be a reason this wouldn't be intended.
Remember Scan pre-patch 9 on low graphics/shaders off? You had no idea. To know you were being scanned you would have to hear the directional sound.

I don't think I've ever played a game where someone used burrowed roaches against me haha O_o

it sucks when they pop up in your mineral line -_-

I always recall being able to spot burrowed roaches. Makes sense, you should be able to vaguely see any cloaked unit that can move, such as ghosts, dark templar, observers, banshees, blah blah blah
|
Oh, wow, I had no idea you could actually see them. I've only had one zerg do this against me, though .
|
I'm like 99% sure that there were shadows on the ground of burrowed roaches moving since patch 1 (back when people used it lol).
