Hi guys, Blizzard has just announced the Starcraft 2 collector's edition. The price tag is set to $100 USD, and the standard edition is set to $60 USD.
- The Art of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, a 176-page book featuring artwork from the game - An exclusive 2GB USB flash drive replica of Jim Raynor's dog tag, which comes preloaded with the original StarCraft and the StarCraft: Brood War expansion set - A behind-the-scenes DVD containing over an hour of developer interviews, cinematics with director's commentary, and more - The official StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty soundtrack CD, containing 14 epic tracks from the game along with exclusive bonus tracks - StarCraft comic book issue #0, a prequel to the comic series - A World of Warcraft mini Thor in-game pet that can be applied to all World of Warcraft characters on a single Battle.net account - Exclusive Battle.net downloadable content, including special portraits for your Battle.net profile, decals to customize your units in-game, and a visually unique version of the terran Thor unit
Personally I would get it just for the art book, and the behind-the-scees DVD. And because I live in New Zealand, the retail price of a standard edition cost around $70 USD to $85 USD. So I would say, why not!

Well, I'm sold. +1 internets
|
Anyone want to buy a WoW pet?
|
ahaha mini thor pet. WoW freaks are gonna jizz in their pants.
|
Seems reasonable for all the stuff included. Blizzard art books are awesome.
|
Standard edition $60 is dubious. Obviously I will buy it, but PC games have always been £10 less than console games due to lack of console based licensing and this price (which hopefully does not turn into a trend) is annoying.

Just announced? I pre-booked my copy like 6 or 7 weeks ago

Well, the listing price here in Sweden is 429 SEK for the standard edition, which comes to almost exactly $60.
The collectors edition is listed at 999 SEK, which is closer to $139

Im ashamed to say this.... but the only thing i like about this is...
- Exclusive Battle.net downloadable content, including special portraits for your Battle.net profile, decals to customize your units in-game, and a visually unique version of the terran Thor unit
Which I'm very ashamed of.

Preorder'd. I never bothered with a blizz collector's edition until Wrath, and when I did I wondered why I hadn't every time. I heard about this, went straight to Amazon and said "...mine!"
also, +1 on eBaying the pet, lol. All the non-WoW fans selling their pets are gonna dilute the market, methinks.

hopefully these wow thor pets sell well cause I'm not touching that shit

Why's the standard edition $60 instead of $50? The extra 10% markup for games is only typically found on consoles, is the Activision arm of Blizzard trying to bully us for another $10 a'la MW2 or something?
Maybe I'm being paranoid, but Activision turned MW2 into a monetary black hole for anyone that wanted to play it on the PC. I feel a strong wind blowing in the direction that the SC2 expansions will not "be priced as such" and Activision is going to milk us for all we are worth.
Someone please tell me I'm wrong :\
|
I'll buy it only for the exclusive bNet content. That seems reasonable for me
|
Unless the special portraits include a nude medic or banshee I don't care for it
Will probably pick up 2 or 3 extra copies and sell them in a year or so for a 200% mark up like I do with been doing with wow CEs

That's exactly what they're doing - milking us for all they can.
You would have thought that WOW (which although it costs $40 million a year to maintain, earned them $2 billion in four years) and the inevitable success of Starcraft 2 would let them leave developers alone *cough* IW *cough*.

100 dollars is roughly the price of 2 normal PC games, considering there are 2 (expansion/sequels) coming out.. man it really sucks when an awesome company like blizzard has Kotick calling the shots, also a WoW pet? really
also 60 for a PC game :/ enough people already don't buy PC games. Just sell it for 50 and get more buyers hooked who will later on get the "expansion/sequels". Personally I think games should be going in the opposite direction of increasing prices or adding $ DLC.
|
we found the one influence of activsion on blizzard--Modern Warfare 2 was $60, SC2 will be $60
fortunately other pc game devs aren't following that trend so far, but then their games aren't as good, either

Blizzard games and expansions have been about $10 over the standard PC price since about Diablo 2. Most people are happy to pay it because Blizzard has an impeccable brand name and their games always deliver good value.
|
I went for the Collectors Edition as well. While I'm not completely convinced on it's value, I can change my mind later if necessary.
|
I'm pretty sure Blizzard games have been $60 for quite a while now. I'm almost 100% positive WC3 had that same price.

- An exclusive 2GB USB flash drive replica of Jim Raynor's dog tag, which comes preloaded with the original StarCraft and the StarCraft: Brood War expansion set
haha, this is cute :~)
- Exclusive Battle.net downloadable content, including special portraits for your Battle.net profile, decals to customize your units in-game, and a visually unique version of the terran Thor unit
I hope this doesn't mean there's going to be heaps of different skins and colours for units in game. PLEASE NO!
