Seeing as everyone prefers some maps over others I really support this superb idea of giving you the ability to vote down certain maps. Only problem is, does it really work?
In my experience I get the maps I've thumbed down as much as any other map, so it really doesn't do me any good. Anyone else had the same experiences? Have Blizzard simply not yet fully got this feature working yet, or have I just been unlucky?
Also a bit curious as to how to actually works too (if it does work), I guess the game counts up all the votes from both players and pick a random map with the least votes? Come to think of it, I've only thumbed down 2 maps, maybe you have to thumb down all 5 for it to take effect, would be stupid though :o

Wait till the game is actually released, it will obviously function better as there are a wider selection of players to choose from.

The only thing I can think of is that blizzard is intentionally not allowing that feature to work... although I have no confirmation of this... as far as I can tell it does absolutely nothing with no explanation.

Yeah after realizing it doesn't work I cleared it then raged at Desert Oasis so I vote it down the next 2 games in a row I get Desert Oasis ~____~

I think the problem is that a map won't be played only if both players have it voted down. Reduce the number of vote downs and make it like an MSL thumbs down.
|
I have no idea how it works. Whenever I get Desert Oasis, I ask the opponent if he also voted it down, most of the time, it's yes. So idk

I've been operating under the assumption that it's just not operational for beta because Blizzard wants all races to play on all maps for testing purposes.
If I remember correctly, in Warcraft 3, the map thumbs down was a 100% veto: you would NEVER get the maps that you declined. I assume it'll work the same way for SC2 when it goes live.

I think when you search for a game it says "Looking for players..." in the first few seconds, but then it switches to "Expanding search...". Expanded search means that the system doesnt take map preferences into account to find other players more quickly.
In the Beta, since there are less players, its set to expand the search by default immediately.
Just my guess.

I think that if a game isn't found during a set time, the search will first expand to other divisions (but still near your skill level) and then it will ignore your map preferences. I'm not really sure though.
|
As people have said above, There's not enough players to actually implement this in closed beta.
|
It doesn't work. Ignoring preferences when expanding search doesn't make much sense, since skill level doesn't have anything to do with map preferences.
|
I believe Blizzard has said they did not implement this on purpose, so no it's not in the game yet.
|
they shut off certain aspects of matchmaking, map preferences is not an important aspect of starcraft 2, they want to see the game played lol

the matchmaking overrides your preferences especially since theres not enough people in the beta

Actually it is Micro, I don't know if you have beta or not but since the beta started they've had a message up saying certain elements of matchmaking are shut off to encourage players to play more games, map preferences ARE overridden because there isn't enough people playing yet to match every platinum player with a platinum player, copper with a copper...
Or for this case, every gold member who only wants to play kulas ravine with every gold member who only wants to play kulas ravine...
when i first started i used a friends account who was copper and I mostly fought gold users...
know ya fact'z
user list is 10k thats not 10k users active at the exact same time, that's people who play above the "online regularly" margin...
I love it when people troll others without knowing anything aboot the content they troll

A feature like that has no place in the beta anyway.

Yeah, you're right. We should just play LT over and over again until someone ports Python. Then SC2 will be complete.
