i never knew wons are that pathetic, i thought 100'000won would be 1'000$.. perhaps im thinking of yens here?

But I suppose you could buy a lot more stuff with 100 000 Won than with 90$ (cost of living and stuff)
|
I hope the good players participate this time so we get a better grasp of what is going on in the top of Asia.

Ooh, a happy note;
Former VOD uploader here, mr0919 donated 100,000 won for this tournament :O

Yea me too. I have a feeling the Asia server is generally of high skill towards the top, at least in comparison to NA.

Too bad no Desert Oasis. With a little editing, that map is easily the best of the group IMO.

100,000 doesn't mean much in korean either...U can probly stay at pc bang for whole week with it...but u can't buy that much stuff with 100,000..

as an OOLLLDD member from PlayXP,
it was a personal blog , that turned into a community website (like teamliquid) , and it turned back to personal blog (due to funding and admin was having a hard time maintaining the people in the community.)
Since it's a personal blog (more like a personal 'website'), it solely runs on people's donation and the administrator's personal money. (In reality, there are about 3 sub-admins that usually donates about 50% of the server cost, the other 50% is covered by the main-admin.)
PlayXP started as a Warcraft translation website, and grew to be the biggest Warcraft community before it was changed to personal blog. Despite being changed into a personal blog; the admin, Nios, have hosted Warcraft League (probably one of the few leagues that occurred in Korea recently). And funded the league and the prize mostly with his money/donation.
Although 100,000 won, or $90 seems pale in comparison to OSL/MSL, considering that it's PlayXP and it's a personally hosted league, I consider it a big move.
And as far as I know, he invited 2 independent commentators to livestream the games,
http://playxp.com/sc2/xpt/live.html
Since this uses an activeX, you need to use Internet Explorer. btw, the league started at 1 am ET,

Any way to reduce the quality, keep having to load which makes viewing a pain, probably because it's streaming at 720p from across the world which doesn't help, and can't seem to buffer more than a minute either. Sadly the options on this player are all in korean, so yeah, pretty annoying.
|
Well, when streaming, if you pull the stream bar at the bottom all the way to the right and leave about 3~5 sec. the buffer can be improved.
And the players are all in Korean b/c playXP is a Korean blog created/administrated by Korean

Go Here: http://www.playxp.com/sc2/xpt/result/list.php
You don't need any Korean. This is a forum where people post the results with the demos. You can click on a topic with the game that interests you, and download it.

regarding the buffer-lag, I can't find a clear solution, I just kept f5'ing until buffering stopped.

Ok guess replays it is, even though I'd rather have commentaries, but the whole watch 6secs, load for 3secs is too annoying. I'd watch it at shitty resolution if I didn't have to lag, but well seems they didn't bother adding stuff for people outside korea(which makes sense).

meh i cant get those streams to work... anyone there who can Restream on livestream or something? :O
wanna see check (( and no livestream T_T GO CHECK[POOH]

Some great games there... They are definitely playing at a similar or higher level than the top US and EU guys.

I have no idea who they are, but both are Zerg. So we have 3 Zerg, 1 Terran and no Protoss @ semi-finals.
So I'm rooting for Check
|
|
|
Check is a terran? nice thought he was zerg
he's in final now
|
I came over a rep yesterday with "PainKiller" as Player2. He had under 100APM, was this the real one? Pretty disappointing cause I thought he would be 180+ easy.
|
Since when does APM matter in SC2, 100-150 is fine atm. Check had much more than 100 in WC3 which is even less APM demanding than SC2 probably, so I dunno.
|
anyone can livestream this? keeps buffering for me
cant even watch the replays >_>
|
Well, ATM Build Order/Strategy > Speed/RTS-gamesense. But just wait until the builds are perfected and people with greater speed can outmultitask the slower ones.
|
wc3 final zenio vs check!
and yes maybenexttime, garimto played and lost
plus, i doubt sc2 takes more apm than wc3, i don't see why wc3 players naturally have more than 100 apm (good players 200-350) and sc2 pros atm have like 100-150 from what i've seen (that's ATM, yes i think too that when standard builds are known people will play more on micro/apm)
|
Check in WC3 would be 200-300 APM easily.
And I think SC2 will be more demanding, but atm it isn't. Also WC3 players should have higher APM in SC2 atm just because it's more similar mechanically with WC3 in the areas that really give you 'apm' or 'speed'.
Anyway I don't mind who wins I like both but I'd like to see Check become a force in SC2!
|
The SC2 apm counter doesn't count all clicks. I've heard that 100 apm in SC2 is like 200-300 apm in BW.
|

That's not quite true. The APM counter goes off game time, instead of real time. Thus playing on Faster causes the game to believe that you are slightly slower then you actually are. IIRC it's like 30% slower? So 100 APM is actually 130.

iirc Check is one of the 400 apm in wc3-.- I remember he is spamming 1 and 9 ( yes 1 and 9 ) at the start of the game when playing human
|
nah he is one of the lower APM wc3 players... mostly like 150-200 (replays of check wc3 check for yourself)
|
Yeah i think your thinking of Rainbow ( one of my favourite humans ever omg!) 450 apm plus every game. think he had a 50 minute game of 500 apm.
|
@@ yaya its rainbow lol Check seems play NE

There are 2 players I know of from Wc3, FoCuS and bly (I think it was bly) that max out at 800 apm, and have an average of about 450.
I think the thing that a lot of people don't really understand is, in Wc3, a lot of the higher APM players, issue the same move or rally point cmd many times in order for it to register. Which brings up their APM.
Is it effective? Hard to say, I know some people like space who have 130 APM and can only hotkey 1-4 and are effective. Then you get players like bly (please correct me if I am wrong about it being bly) that have that insane 'gosu' APM, and never made it past semi-pro considering they aren't nearly as effective with their actions for their super high APM to mean anything.
Back on topic though, it would be interesting to know if the Blizzard APM tracking system is 100% accurate, or if it does have a margin of error due to the speed of the replay, etc.

I think you're mistaken with Bly but FoCuS is one of the few HUGE apm players in War3 with his average being in the mid 400s.
Space has low apm due to his terminal muscular distrophy condition and he does lose some games due to not being able to bind his army properly. He even said in an interview that he frequently plays games without binding at all (which is utterly insane to comprehend).
You don't need as high APM to in war3 as you do in SC1 and that's mostly to do with the simpler macro, but the micro is incredibly intense.

So it seem Check playing Protoss beat ZenioWeRRa playing Terran 2-0.
I can't watch these vids are all =/.
|
Any idea if they are going to release the replays for the last rounds? They did a great job of releasing all the replays except for the final games.
|
Has watching the reps from this tournament done much to change people's opinions of the standard of play over on the asian server?
|
thx for links. in case you dont know how to watch them: u need to use internet explorer and click the "activex" button after youve clicked the vod you wanna see. then dl the program and then refresh page and load the activex control when prompted.

Protoss won? Asian zergs haven't figured out how to play yet or what?
|
First replay I load and one of the players is yellow (the color). How come no yellow in ladder games? Only available in custom?
Also what happened to white from SC1.

I've edited this post since it seems I was totally wrong for the last few rounds. Was Check race picking the whole time then depending on his opponent? As he's playing zerg against a protoss user in the quarter finals, zerg vs a zerg in the semi final and then protoss vs zeniowerra who has also changed race to terran for the final match for some reason.

Yeah, it's a bit odd. The message should probably be changed to: "Protoss won? Asian terrans haven't figured out how to play yet or what?"
The finals are just embarassing. The Terran plays Marine/Tank/Hellion against Colossi, immortals, phoenixes and zealots and just gets rolled in both games. In the first game, three colossi get 104 kills.
|
I've just heard unconfirmed report that Blizzard is blocking xp2 tournament because every sc2 tournament requires the approval of blizzard first. I cannot read Korean and therefore unable to verify the report. Can some that reads Korean go the the xp site and see if it's true?
If this is true. It's not good for esport at all...

pretty sure they were just offracing and messing around. if you and your training partner/friend both made it to the finals of a tournament would you really play serious, or would you just play for fun, especially when its more like a fun tournament?

|
Blizzard may be able to do that since its in beta, but I believe once the game is retail I don't believe Blizzard would legally be able to enforce not allowing people to hold tournaments for their game. And before anyone mentions EULA or agreements when signing up for SC2, these things are not always legally binding. but i don't know law so maybe anyone that knows can say whether they think blizzard can do that.
Btw I noticed ZenioWerra groups an overlord with his mutalisks. Does that do anything in SC2?

A quick google translate on the main XPT2 page reveals this:
■ Competition Overview - 블리자드 승인 스타크래프트2 리그 - Blizzard StarCraft 2 League approval
- 대회 이름: 다알링배 XP 토너먼트 - Competition Name: daalringbae XP Tournament
Which makes it sound like they have the approval already. What would be the sense in letting so many eu cups go ahead while blocking the main asian one?

Terran mech needing a boost and something done differently with roaches might be my only complaints about the entire gameplay aspect at the moment.
