It suddenly felt a lot like Zerg. You don't have a variety of units to choose from early on, and a bit later when you've had time to tech up, all the better units are gas heavy so you need to carefully choose which units you want. You also feel the pressure to fast expand for more gas, or you'll end up building more mineral-only units (Hellions for Terran) than you really want.
Now, if only my Supply Depots could float around veeery slowly and the atmosphere would be complete. The zerg in me can't help but feel alittle statified inside from this, now if you just wasnt allowed to wall off either it would be truely complete. I think its really similar to zerg because getting anti air without marines is a bitch. damn void rays Yes, if only I could convince my CC to poop out something that can shoot air, have 175 hp and 1 armor, and heal every unit I have. Sounds like the kind of unit Zerg would be prohibited from building for a funday Monday.

When I first heard the challenge on the cast I thought "How is this even remotely close to the challenges for the other two races?" but figured what the hell, I'll be a sport and try it out anyways, what's a few losses on my account . Being a Terran player that wants balance in the game and doesn't just turn a blind eye to what I think are balance issues I always had an appreciation for what Zerg players face early game but until yesterday the only early game anxiety I experience is the "omfg here comes a bunker rush"...thanks Day9, even if you didn't realise it immediately this challenge should open a lot of Terran player's eyes....I approve of this challenge .

That's true but when I sat down and thought about it I figured there's 1,001 replays out there of Reaper and Hellion harassment, let's see what happens if I turtle instead of steamrolling my opponents economy first. I almost felt that if I went hard harassment that I would be doing something similar to the VR ruin his base then build a Carrier so I avoided it all together. I'm curious to see what else comes up next Monday and hopefully most Terrans are being good sports and giving it a shot.

I love the casts, but sometimes your chess analogies make me cringe. I think you have a chess rating from when you were a kid: http://www.uschess.org/msa/MbrDtlMain.php?12817905 I would really love to help you with your phrasing of chess analogies, they wouldn't change the meaning and I think they would still be accessible to your general audience. For example in your last cast:
"Imagine if we're playing chess and you have 20 seconds to make a move, and if at the end of your turn, you have not made a move, or I should say if at the end of 20 seconds if you have not made a move you lose your turn. So really, honestly you either get a move or not if you make it. So in this little chess example, even if it's not going to be a not great move, it's always going to be better than not moving a piece And yea you 2200 chess players are like: 'well actually that's not the case, sometimes I'd prefer not to make a move.'" So this was actually a pretty good metaphor that was pretty well explained, but I think it would have been better to talk about development in chess here. In the early game, good moves either develop your pieces or set yourself up to develop your pieces (for the most part). So really what you're saying here is, yes, you can spend 20 seconds thinking "should this larva be a drone or a zergling", and you might make the wrong choice, but either choice is going to be a lot better than making neither and probably the drone is going to be better because their more versatile and set you up for the long run. Beginners often want to make moves that make a threat (make a zergling), but if the threat can be defended, then you've wasted a move (time and a larva), whereas developing more pieces (making more drones), will leave you in a better position in the long run.
I realize mine was a little long winded, but I think it was a reasonable analogy. I'm less good at starcraft than I am at chess, but I'm reasonable at starcraft.
PM me if you're at all interested, I like chess metaphors, but I would love better chess metaphors.

I think you're misinterpreting what Day9 was trying to illustrate. It wasn't a point about "economy is better than army", it was a point about "action is better than inaction".
Chess worked as a metaphor because it's turn-based. By saying "if you don't act you lose your turn" in chess, you illustrate the cost of inaction, because it's plain as day that letting your opponent move several times is a huge disadvantage.
In an RTS you might be lulled into thinking "I shouldn't commit resources to X before I have enough information to act on it" but you are now losing your most valuable resource, which is time.
Chess is only used because it's a turn-based strategy game. You could just as easily substitute go or tic tac toe.

If your against protoss then gas before barracks straight to factory, build a reactor on the barracks float to factor and do 2x hellion into either multi factory or multi starport play with maybe some ghost.
Your main assest without marines and marauders is harrassment and speed. Your mineral dump is hellions. As MM is usually the core of an army you will need to be fast and be aggressive, make sure you are not suiciding units because you usually wont be able to stand a direct engagment until you have multiple thors/tanks with a SCV repair crew backing them up.
The biggest problem I would see terran having is cheap early anti air. Of course you can swap your reactor factory for reactor starport if you notice VR or muta..
But honestly this requirement requires turtle aggression, tanks & vikings make you unpushable and you can just slowly expand while sending out hellions, reapers, banshees, thor drops to go harrass.
no Marines Marauders or TANKS

I'm pretty excited for the newbie Tuesday. I watch the day[9] cast every day on VOD. The next newbie Tuesday cast is something I have a lot of trouble with. This such a good topic. <3 day[9]

Is there some reason when I watch replays of Day9's broadcast, the audio is always out of sync with the video? It makes for some hilarious situations, but it is mostly annoying.

Debussy was a late 19th century composer, not 17th century. 17th century is like Lully or Monteverdi.

I'm assuming you're watching the SD recordings on youtube? For some reason, youtube's encoder offsyncs the audio with the standard def versions. Blip plays them just fine. HOWEVER, the HD uploads to youtube should be ok! should be all hd uploads from here on out as well :>

I've had occasional audio sync problems with Blip. Seems to be about 1 in 3 or 4 dailies, and I THINK it's repeatable.

I actually thought terran fundaymonay would be: "Now, Terran players must play as Zerg".
I find this funday challenge to be far more difficult one than the previous ones. You will be really gas starved and can´t expand safe as its insanely difficult to defend with only reapers and hellions. There is also no way survive mass muta.

What is the newbie tuesday challenge??? I know the funday monday one.
Thanks.

Submit replays of a time that, as Zerg, you struggled with knowing whether to pump drones or build units. It appears that the Newbie Tuesday will be about helping our Jergy buddies learn about when to pump drones for economy and how to realize when to start bulking up a force to defend/attack.
