I wonder too. The MLG will start in a few days. day9 hasn't posted on his Twitter for a few days, he's been busy.

On the one hand, people on this board are always talking about how they want to see e-sports take off. On the other, they tend to be really elitist about it, looking down their nose at anyone who doesn't take it super seriously, who just watches for mindless entertainment, etc. Yeah, this really bothers me. When I watch soccer or baseball or hockey it's sure as hell not to become a pro at those sports, it's to have fun. It really seems like a lot of Starcraft players don't follow 'real' sports at all, which is a shame. The hardcore/casual distinction in general feels unique to gaming and is pretty harmful to all parties. Yeah, but you never hear people excusing announcers' ignorance by saying they're trying to appeal to a broader audience. Sometimes that leads broadcasters to analyze their sports at a lower, more accessible level, but it's never an excuse for just not knowing what you're talking about (or, worse, getting things wrong). Of course, sometimes broadcasters really don't know what they're talking about, but they get called out, too. Edit: I understand that there's work to be done in building up the sc2 fanbase and community, and I understand that lots of bad commentators have historically done a lot of that work (Klazart...), which is great. I just don't think that the only options are high-level, obscure-to-beginners analysis and ignorant, mistake-filled, low-level analysis.

Most pro sports commentators, for instance, are abysmal at providing interesting analysis or telling you things you don't already know. For example, John Madden, probably the most famous commentator in sports history (apologies to Marv Albert), was basically really, really good at stating shit that was completely obvious (e.g. "Now, when making a pass, its very important that the quarterback be able to see, because if you can't see, then you don't know what you're looking at.") There are a couple who actually do provide good insight (e.g. Jeff Van Gundy, the coach turned basketball commentator), but by and large that isn't what people are primarily looking for in a sports commentator. Husky is like a geeked out John Madden. Everything he says is obvious stuff you already know, but he's good at saying it in an engaging, funny, and likable way--and when something awesome happens, he brings the enthusiam like no one else. Day9 can be good at that as well, but really only when he's casting a live stream. When he's doing the dailies he gets too bogged down in analysis. I mean, its great for learning about the game, and I think people who really spend a ton of time thinking about starcraft get a lot out of it. But if I'm just looking to shut my brain off, watch a fun match and be entertained, the Day9 daily format is IMO inferior to the "Just have fun and crack jokes" approach of Husky. I'm not a big fan of HD though--he reminds me of Husky, only not as funny and with less enthusiasm. This is pretty much my thought on the subject.

I started winning games. I watched more dailies, learned new strategies and ways of thinking, and learned to appreciate smoothness. I won more and more. I was winning more than I lost, and moved to silver. Watched more dailies from the other races POVs and got some insight into their thinking. I moved up to gold on 8/16. Then today I CRUSHED a (terrible) diamond level player and got bumped up to #6 platinum. Thank you Day9. Thank you so much. I'd also really appreciate some practice with some of you guys, I'm Popetastic and my code is 309. I'm kind of scared that I'm not good enough to be in platinum and I'm going to get absolutely crushed and could use some 1v1ing and then watching the replay together. Again, thanks, you're the fucking best! ps I watched your standup and wish you'd do more. It was so much funnier than I expected a Starcraft 2 shout caster to be.

That accomplishment was absolutely 100% thanks to you. I started in the bottom of my bronze division after losing 4 of my placement matches as zerg. I was like, fuck this, I'm just gonna play single player. Then I happened to discover the Day9 daily Plugging Leaks in Silver Level Play. I switched my race to protoss and practiced some of your tips against the computer, and started focusing on making probes constantly and making my 4 gate push as fast as possible. What is really turning me away from those two now is that they hardly cast any matches on their youtube channels and when they finaly do it is 1 game spread out over several days of upploads... that is pissing me off. Then they do like 5 uploads at once with commercials about their new site... Day[9] is my top commentator for stuff thats there for helping you out, like his dailies, those are great, to bad he seems to have stoped with them on blip.tv or something.

![]() Also funny to see how exhausting this game is for Jaedong, at the end he is like dripping, he looks like he ran 10 miles. I hope there will be some time for another SC1 daily (maybe about MSL Grand Final?) or even some BGH fun That would be the coolest thing ever.

As you can see on the TL Calendar ----------------Over HERE----------------> there is a new daily planned for tomorrow.. Somewhere through watching the replays of the countdown party I noticed that a bit of content seemed to be missing because he kept referencing a piece of content that I never saw. I assume they're one and the same and I'd love to see it.
