I was just watching this official video about the training, vs AI, and unranked matchmaking modes in HotS when I noticed the map that was used in the B-roll footage at around 3:06.
The section of the video was talking about the "vs AI" matchmaking mode in HotS, which currently uses ladder maps in the beta. I found it especially interesting that they used Whirlwind in this section of the video considering that it's currently not a ladder map, yet the other B-roll footage in the video use current ladder maps.
Does this vaguely hint at Blizzard possibly adding Whirlwind as a ladder map? Or am I reading too much into this?
I'm going to quote the following post from Blizzard :
We’re also discussing our direction for the Heart of the Swarm map pool. Though we will go into further detail at a later date, we are currently planning to make heavier use of popular tournament maps, refresh the map pool more frequently than we did in Wings of Liberty, and work closely with tournament organizations around the world in order to collaborate on map development.
I sadly haven't played Whirlwind even once but from what i saw in turnaments by now, i think this would be a great idea. I like the map because it's so wide open, what enables dynamic matches more then just sitting on 3 bases until 200/200

It's actually good for toss to especially in hots lol. Tvz would be even more epic on the map to (there are so many entertaining games on whirlwind tvz because bl/corr/infestor sucks on that map in WoL).

If they nerf Void Rays, it won't be. Anyway, the terrain makes BL/Infestor easier to deal with but remember, it's nkt BL/Infestor thats the big problem in HotS, it's Ultras, which deal DOUBLE the damage they did in WoL, and Muta with the mobility, and Roach/Hydra/Viper. These things can really abuse the mobility advantage and love big maps, so even with the aggression potential granted by the MSC, Whirlwind isn't good for Protoss in HotS as far as PvZ is concerned. PvZ is a lot more bqlanced than PvT though, with Widow Mines and Hellbats Protoss has to play almost perfectly. Luckily, almost noone has figured this out yet but in a few months it will be scary. This map is so big Terran will be able to comfortably transition into a good lategame deathball, and Zerg can abuse their new, mobile lategame to its full potential.
That's a nice video by the way. The matchmaking menu makes sense. I love especially that they really are using 2 different MMR for unranked and ranked.
I believe somewhere about a month ago they said that the map pool would be changed more often and reflect the maps that tournaments were using. Which is awesome, because if you think about you go and watch idra own it up on X map, and then you hop of battle.net and play on X map and own using his same strat. It could help people learn and it could keep you excited and interested. I know coming from wc 3 map changes never happened, so its kinda cool to see a big map pool. I don't mind them rotating maps back in for fun too. Like cloud kingdom if it got pulled out for a few seasons, and put back in i would fine with that.
I'm up for any new maps. Whirlwind with the rock changes seems to be a good map so far in the current season of GSL. Like some people have said, I wouldn't mind seeing Planet S or something like Bifrost to mix it up. I just hope Blizzard is serious about changing out the map pool more often than they did in WoL. That really hurt the game for me. It just got stale.

Indeed, I was going to post the same thing. Pretty sloppy, I'd think anyone with some knowledge of SC2 should have caught that when reviewing that video o_O
