ok. But it loses the Light-bonus. So it's a trade-off. The buff is not very significant though.


Good thing is that you can switch between two modes. If the opponent use a lot of light flying unit (i.e. Muta or Phoenix) then Thor still can kill them with anti-light AA missiles. In later stage of the game, they can switch to single target AA cannon with flat damage. This should increase Thor viability in the long game and make mech more complete.

Zerg get better air use with buffed mutas

and terran attack timing will be fucking scary as shit

Am excited to see new timings for terran in the mid game and how Zerg will respond to it

Ok, so they increased heal rate and efficiency by 67%, but increased the cost by 50% (so the net heal speed and effective energy is unchanged). The effective health of medivacs, though, is now 2/3rds of what it used to be. After taking the new costs into account, build time is 9% faster. This is all with the upgrade, though. Without the upgrade, medivacs kinda suck now due to their low health/cost and healing/cost ratios. Also, dropping is going to be a heavier investment regardless of the upgrade, because medivacs cost more resources and build time. I'm glad they didn't raise the supply, though. Since 8 new medivacs will be like 12 without caduceus reactor, it will be even more important to micro your medivacs and avoid getting them fungaled. Medivacs will be less effective at healing the front line of an army since the healing will be more concentrated.

They didn't make it clear whether or not the cost of medivacs changes because of the upgrade or is just changed overall, but I suspect it's the latter.



Caduceus reactor's cost and research time changed, not the cost for the medivac itself. They are still 100/100 and 42 seconds to build.

Really good to see so many changes. Some of these are very strange, though.

Armory
The Armory now only has one weapon and one armor upgrade for both air and ground upgrades for both Factory and Starport units.

Particularly this one. Also, not clear why medivacs needed 3 different buffs.

The guy is exaggerating but i could very well imagine so many drastical changes to bring up a LOT of imbalances. But they still have some months of time and i'd rather have them change many things instead of just little fixes. I don't want HotS to be nearly like WoL.

I hope you're right, I really hope so. In my opinion, these are the worst changes ever made. Especially the Medivac change (as if they weren't strong enough already...), the Terran armory update, phoenix and the dark shrine.

Also, have you noticed that Seeker Missile is basically the same as the Yamato cannon? Pretty bad design, sorry Blizzard...

Being GM doesn't really give you good balance sense at all. That is like saying professional gamers have really good ideas on how to balance the game, which normally involves nerfing their worst match up. Or saying that I have more common sense because I am older.

Ok i try, first of all medivac changes are much too drastic that cant be the right way. The speed is so high even faster then mutaliscs with new speed ^^. And the healing will be so powerfull its a 60 % healting buff.

Also terran mech is rly rly strong in hots vs P. Just tempest totally owns it but this will not be the case anymore with the new patch. And mech will now be even stronger espc when thor rly has no more energy

I think most zerg changes are ok.
But muta speed... this is not rly necessary makes them just more annyoning but not better in fighting.

Im myself protoss, i think dt shrine is now too cheap but makes me anyway happy :-) dt pwnage but in caste of balance its prob also shit

Blizzard said themselv since toss has now tempest they dont need vortex anymore vs Broodlords. But tempest will not be build against broodlords i guess but time will tell (carriers are better in this case and they also dont rly work).

(tempest dps is 9 vs massive 18) carrier has 25 dps against everything carrier range is 8 first later 14 so its not a big difference between those 2 but im not sure. In every caste the medivac speed and heal is shit this is 4 sure.

This patch looks quite interesting, the game needs big changes. Personally I'm a bit reluctant because there are too many buffs, while the game's units need an overall nerf in order to create more dynamic environment imho.

Seeker Missle - 300 Single target damage?

That kills:
Every zerg unit in one hit - except for Ultras
Every Terran unit except for Thors/BCs
Every Toss unit except for Collosi, Archons, Carrier and Tempests

Albeit there's no splash damage but that seems rather ridiculous.

I don't understand this change unless Blizzard wants to create a lategame situation for TvX that we have now with ZvX where you counter t3 with spellcasters. Removing the upgrade was good enough - this just seems like overkill.

Just realised this, medivac cost has NOT changed. The change in cost is the energy upgrade, not the medivac itself...

So yeah it's gonna be pretty strong...

I disagree considerably. One of the problems with WoL is that everything was nerfed far too much in the beta and it made certain things like the reaper and tank completely awful.

I find none of your arguments compelling or with any merit. Most of the changes are not about balancing the game, but shacking up the meta game to promote the use of different play styles. If they are OP, they can be toned down. But the patch makes good changes to may of the neglected units and structures in the game.
