Zero Hour: Northern map, past first set of hatcheries, a Tauren marine jumps into an outhouse like building which then goes through a countdown before taking off.

Piercing the Shroud: Outside after calling in reinforcements, a Murloc marine sits on a rock.

Same Mission: Just after the brutalisk, there's a Metroid in one of the hybrid tubes.

I love how not only do they have a lab with Metroids in it, but it suffers the fate of every other lab, ever, in the history of the series that tried to do research on them... Absolute destruction.

Isn't there already a thread about this?

Either way Ihan Crystal is probably a reference to ee han timing as both sound the same when said and Ihan is just a made up name otherwise.

- There is a murloc in a marine suit hidden in Piercing the Shroud.
- There is a Tauren Marine that runs into an outhouse in Zero Hour, which then blasts off like a rocket when you right-click it.
- That rocket-outhouse can be seen flying in space in the background of Ghost of a Chance.
- There is a mini-Diablo hidden in The Devil's Playground.

that's all I've seen so far besides the Metroid and stuff that's already been mentioned

This may just have been me, but Jaynes town was also in borderlands. Even if it was referencing firefly, it's a double refference. Tycus says "time to kick ass and chew bubble gum!" which is a refference to duke nuke em. The whole cd commecercial has jokes on tons of songs such as saturday night is alright for nuking. There is a Tauren space marine somewhere in the second or third level(zero hour). One shot fifty kills is a joke on the whole one shot one kill thing for snipers.

* On the mission "Havens Fall," search the bottom left corner near the refugees. Just
before the bottom left Zerg base in the water is a Marine frozen in ice?

* On the mission "Zero Hour," where you wait 20 minutes for evacuation, search the
top of the map, just above the left vespene geyser. Here you can find a Tauren Space
Marine. He will enter an outhouse -- if you click it 3 times it will shoot into space,
unlocking that level's secret.

* On the mission "Welcome to the Jungle," you can find a Murloc Marine near the left
edge of the map. He's slightly north of your base. He is standing on a cliff edge,
surrounded by trees.

* During the mission "Piercing the Shroud," in the loading bay before the room with
the Brutalisk, go outside through the door and follow the rock ledge upwards. A
large area of the map will be suddenly revealed, and you will find a Murloc Marine.
Secret mission
+ Show Spoiler +
* Inside the sercret mission unlocked via destroying the Science Facility on Korhol
(which can be unlocked in replays btw), send a unit as far as you can at the drop
point when you get reinforcements (outside, not entering the brutalisk room first).
Here you can see a Murloc Marine just minding it's own business on a nearby asteroid.

The hybrid at the end of the protoss missions says 'I love it when a plan comes together' just like the A-Team guy.

The feat of strength 'You're so Crazy' is probably in reference to the GnR song You're Crazy(due to the mission, its achievements and the fact its also on the appetite for destruction album).

When you're playing the Zeratul storyline and the mission A Sinister Turn there's two achivements called Out for Justice and Maar-ked for Death which happens to be the name of two Steven Seagal-movies.

The Liberation Day mission: there is a billboard advertising "iCruiser" in the north corner of the courtyard where your reinforcements arrive.

I'm sure all of you noticed this: at one point the T.V. on the ship shows an "iRifle" commercial in the style of those old iPod commercials.

guess Blizzard likes Macs...

Dr. Narud is in charge of the Mobius foundation (the person that you meet on the level where you first get medivacs) and the knowledge leading to the labs in piercing the shroud. I didn't think twice of the name till i read it on a thread here. Spell it backwords, that SOB now has 2 secret missions about him.

Oh cool, I totally wondered what the dogtag name meant, because they put such emphasis on it, lol.

There's another reference to staff death in this... a large sign that says "$70,000 REWARD Help us find Dave Berggren's killer! http://www.starcraft2.com
It also shows a "suspect composite" with a picture of I don't know who.
the doodad's name is Billboard Tall (Variation 4)

Nice find. I don't really see the carbonite thing though, probably a bad picture.

Edit: I just happened to find the doodad in the editor. It's called "Carbon Marine Block".

The "sword in the stone" is called "tombstone DLH" and it says "RIP D.L.H." on the plaque.

I just found another easter egg now too, although it's really small and hardly worth mentioning (things like iCruiser and iPistol aren't even easter eggs).
In the map editor, the "dumpster" doodad has a sticker on it that says "alliance" with the WoW lion icon.
Another is "Deadman's Port Spaceship Junk Pile", which has a GIANT predator unit junked, as well as a USS Enterprise (from star trek)
"Then he told me to tell you that he wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire" — "Well, you tell him that I said that I wouldn't piss on him if he was on Jeopardy!"

Aaah so that's who it was. I was curious if it was given so much attention because of the individual or if Raynor was thinking about what the dogtags represented.

As long as we're including references in this discussion, the music in the bar fight cut scene is a huge rip off of the 'Big Bar Fight' song in firefly.

It's actually blizzard games that never got released. The top one that you can see clearly is Starcraft Ghost, and the other one is Warcraft Legends.

Man I can't believe this hasn't been mentioned yet! There is a crashed Enterprise in the cutthroat mission. Its on high ground right next to one of the mining bases(the one south of your base). Anybody who doesn't know what the Enterprise is, shouldn't bother looking for it.

In the level where Queen of Blades is trying to take over the data centers, if you fly to the upper left corner of the map there's a little blizzard platform with orc statues and a sword stuck in the ground. Similar to what you see after beating Lost Viking.

There's more orc statues in Supernova in the bottom right corner of the map, on the platform across from the 4th relic (there's some enemy cannons and stuff there that will shoot you.

I forget which mission, but on the lower left hand of the map, there was a zerg "containment" room where one ultralisk pops out and another is being held in chains, but the computers in that room have the wow character screen with some orc hunter in 70 gear selected if you zoom in on it. Also there's a picture of somone kids as well.

Tychus says it because that's what they are. Hover-bikes.

It's not a reference to tasteless.

In the mission Belly of the Beast, Tychus says "Say hello to my little friend" (Scarface) as one of his attack quotes.

Not sure if this can be really counted as a reference but in the mission where you have to defend your base at night and kill infested buildings by day later in the mission while your base is under attack, Tychus says "You know, I think I saw this in a movie once." possible reference to zombie apocalypse movies which the mission is a parody of.

I presume someone already mentioned this one: the porta-potty in the north end of mission 3 (the marine+bunker+medic one), that, when clicked on (or attacked, can't remember), launches into space. It then shows up again in the Battlecruiser mission, zipping by in the background. Thought that was hilarious.

they name one of the starships as 'Skynyrd', in one of the videos you watch at the Cantina, and after you watch the video you listen to 'Sweet Home Alabam' from Lynyrd Skynyrd in the background, which means someone in blizzard is a fan from the band :D

The print on the wall is Heaven's Devils. I guess it's not an easter egg, but it's the only time you can see it. LOL, ignore Raynor and PsyoniC's closed eyes.

After you complete Haven's fall, raynor kills ariel. I am not sure if it is during the cutscene, or after in the cantina, but Tychus saÿs "Shes dead, Jim".

Not exactly an easter egg per se...

Horace Warfield is pronounced exactly the same as "Horus", the Egyptian Falcon God.

Horus served many functions in the Egyptian pantheon, most notably being the god of the Sky, god of War and god of Protection.

Also the Terran Insignia resembles a falcon.

Even a bit further removed (I'm not sure if Blizz reads Wilbur Smith novels!) but the "Warlock" (Warfield??) series of books has the main character Taita using a hawk with a broken wing as his sigil/seal.

Warfield loses a limb in the final missions, might be a reference even if its very obscure.

Makes sense. In the CE DVD there was a little L4D warning zombies poster when you get shown around the work areas.

That made me confused. I live in Poland but got English version of sc2, so I thought blizzard detects my country and put this regional easter egg.

"Żywią y bronią" (with y, because that was proper spelling in XVIII century.) which means "They feed and protect") is a Kosciusko's (Polish and American general) slogan for peasants army who fought with military scythes. That slogan was also part of Polish money, before they changed it on the new in 1995 + Show Spoiler +

I was totally wondering what that was.
I found it through the editor, and was totally perplexed at what it was supposed to be. I never played left for dead, but the doodad/unit's name was smoker.

I noticed very prominently was a cigar in his hand — at normal camera levels/zoom it looks like a prominent ring (at least to me), and I had to use some major zoom to see what it really was. Doesn't make much sense for a dead body to have a cig still in their hand, lol.

People say it's nova, and while it looks more like her, maybe it is, but maybe it's supposed to be Mira Han. Nova has a model and Mira Han doesn't (at least released to the public) though. Overall I guess it doesn't really matter, but at least it would make a bit more sense.

"Sir, I just detected a massive energy influx in the stars energy readings, it's due to GO NOVA in a few hours!"

Pretty standard way of describing a star exploding. "to nova" isn't quite right, so "to go nova" is the way it's used. The star goes nova, it went nova, they go nova. I don't think this is an easter egg, just a standard way of describing something exploding brightly. It's also mediocre dialogue writing, in this case.

Technically, this is a reference to the movie "They Live" with Roddy Piper.

My contribution to this thread upon my first playthrough: the red dancing hologram in the cantina is doing some of the Night Elf female dance from World of Warcraft.

And I didn't see it mentioned here, but Swann and the armory seem to be references to Dwarf Fortress. Swann resembles a dwarf and works in Bay 12. There was some dialogue later on about how he hates caves and likes working with tools and weapons.

One of the songs played on the jukebox in the cantina sounded like a re-worded version of "Freedom isn't Free" from "Team America". I went back and listened through again and couldn't find it. I might be imagining things (but it's more likely that Matt Stone and Trey Parker succeeded in creating the most generic-sounding country song ever).

One of the tv ads called "Bubba's Gas n Grub" resembles the space diner from "Spaceballs". I'm not sure it's an easter egg, but I'll let you decide.

The music in the Tychus/Raynor barfight cutscene is almost directly copied from an episode of "Firefly". Probably a homage or easter egg, considering the abundance of other "Firefly" references, but dangerously close to plagarism, and something that as a composer/musician I really hate to see. It isn't unusual in the business (and Blizzard composers have copied many obscure, but public domain, musical passages: Wagner's Die Walkure in D2X and a piano piece in WoW to name a couple).

I'm about to play through the campaign again, so I'll let you know if I see anything that hasn't been mentioned here.

Edit: Whoops, forgot one. "Ghostbusters" is referenced in the game quite a bit as has already been pointed out, but the Zeratul/Kerrigan fight has a similarity to the scene where Gozer emerges from the door and pets one of her dogs. This is mirrored at the end when Kerrigan pets one of her two remaining hydralisks. It's a very similar visual to my eyes.

Technically(since you pointed out the other guy) the 'Night elf female dance from WoW' is actually stolen from quite a few different 'famous dances', it's not like Blizzard made up the dance moves.

Bay 12 you say? Well in that case, Bay 12 is a reference to Aliens. Ripley works the power loader and Sgt Apone laughs, saying "Bay 12, please!"

Yea I do know that, but Loki is a character in stargate sg1 (an asgard.) and the asgard have a tendency to name their ships after ppl. The O'neil and the Daniel Jackson for example.

lol, thats not a Stargate reference. SG and SC are both referencing Norse mythology, which is quite a bit older than both of them. Loki is the Norse god of mischief and chaos who resided in Asgard along with all the other gods. Many of the Terran units in SC2 are references to Norse mythology, such as the Thor, Viking, and Raven (The symbol of Odin, he always appears with two), the Odin in that same mission, and even the Hel's Angels mercenaries (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hel_(location).
In Hungry Hungry Hippos there are no such constraints—one can constantly attempt to collect marbles with one’s hippo, limited only by one’s hippo-levering capabilities.

Because loki and the asgard from stargate is based on norse mythologi doesn't change the fact that the reference in starcraft2 is infact aimed towards the stargate series and not norse mythology though.
That's like saying rory swann is a reference to germanic mythologies because he resembles a dwarf.

I doubt it, consider there are Thors, Odin (big thor) so Loki just follows the pattern.

lol, thats not a Stargate reference.

Because loki and the asgard from stargate is based on norse mythologi doesn't change the fact that the reference in starcraft2 is infact aimed towards the stargate series and not norse mythology though.
That's like saying rory swann is a reference to germanic mythologies because he resembles a dwarf.

it's not a reference to sg. if you look across blizzards games, a huge amount of units (if not most) and buildings etc. are named after something in some kind of mythology.

Wrong. SC has had references to Norse mythology for along time, remember a unit called Valkyries? Besides, Norse mythology is a very common source of naming themes, Stargate is just one example. Now, if there were references to Egyptian mythology along with the Norse one, I would be more inclined to believe the Stargate reference, but as it stands, there's nothing to prove it other than a common source.

what is up with that video. quotes 2/3, and 5/6 are repeats. cheap editing to boost instances makes me a little. I mean I'm sure he's said it enough times to pad out a video of that sort without repeating

The EoD mission takes place on a planet called Valhalla.

You have the Odin and the Loki and references to Asgard.

Seems pretty clearly Norse-aimed to me.

Immortal's avatar occasionally has a goldfish in it. Couldn't get a good shot of it so here is the texture:

Also the Goliath's and Spartan Company's avatars are more than just a reference to Dustin Browder.
This guy is NOT Dustin Browder. This is modelled after Brian Sousa. Apparently it's a running joke at Blizzard to make fun of his likeness to Dustin Browder. However that's why the mercenary version of the Goliath:

is indeed modelled to resemble Dustin Browder.

really?

well my mistake then, I thought it was related to Todd Beamer's words

"Let's roll" is a catchphrase that has been used extensively as a term to move and start an activity, attack, mission or project. After the attacks of September 11, 2001 the phrase, especially in the United States, has come to symbolize heroism, self sacrifice and initiative in a tough situation. This use of the phrase was inspired by Todd Beamer's final known words, "Are you guys ready? Let's roll!" The phrase has been widely appropriated as a battlecry.

That's like saying rory swann is a reference to germanic mythologies because he resembles a dwarf.

The Yggdrasil was a hero Overlord in SC1. In Norse mythology, Yggdrasil was the world tree, around which existed nine worlds.

There is no mention of Yggdrasil in Stargate, at least according to what Google can tell me.

The fact that StarCraft has even one thing on Stargate leads to the rational explanation that these terms were taken directly from Norse mythology, and not lifted from Stargate.

Also, regarding the Sousa/Browder thing, here's a helpful PSA direct from Blizzard:

Stargate had Yggdrasil somewhere, but I can't remember where. I'm pretty sure it was the ship that the ancient Asgard had (the humanoid ones in stasis underground on some planet), but I'll have to check.

Anyway, it's a reference to Norse mythology AND Stargate. Is it really that hard to just get along?

Loki is the Norse god of mischief and chaos who resided in Asgard along with all the other gods. Many of the Terran units in SC2 are references to Norse mythology, such as the Thor, Viking, and Raven (The symbol of Odin, he always appears with two), the Odin in that same mission, and even the Hel's Angels mercenaries (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hel_(location).

Because loki and the asgard from stargate is based on norse mythologi doesn't change the fact that the reference in starcraft2 is infact aimed towards the stargate series and not norse mythology though.
That's like saying rory swann is a reference to germanic mythologies because he resembles a dwarf.

Dude you're from Sweden.... I'm a huge Stargate fan, but referencing North Mythology has nothing to do with Stargate. It's just that the Asgard reuse the names all the time.
Also what have dwarves to do with Germany? Oo

Dude give the fella a break, from what's posted here I'd say his theory might as well be correct.
Or maybe I missed the chapter in northern mythology where the Asgard aquired spaceships and used them to battle the wraith in their spaceships.
Which did however happen in SG.
Sure a lot of things in starcraft are based upon northern mythology but that doesn't mean that this particular mission can't be referenced towards Stargate.

And about the dwarves, a quick google tells me that the dwarves supposibly originated from germanic mythologi.
