Well Ronaldo was not in the S11, Portugal losing to Scotland and now hes scored the winning goal.

Dont be hating on Ronaldo

It was not the usual starting 11 minus cronaldo. A lot of stuff happen there.

Plus he produced a tap in goal. Unfortunate coincidence to be him, but for sure a lot of fuel to ronaldetes.

Btw against croatia he also scored a tap in and we still won despite him, not because of him. He does a good game here and there but dont pretend we are not playing with 10 most games.

Does Portugal have much better number 9s though? pretty sure if Portugal had tons of high quality 9s there would be less defense for ronaldo

I think germany has what it takes to be WC in 2 years if they continue to develop like that.

They’re certainly in with a shot if those two continue to develop as they have.

Germany don’t have quite the depth front to back of some other nations, on the flip side they do have a coach who’s in demand in elite club football, which most other nations don’t have

This may be biased but I still think they were the 2nd best team in Euros and they basically only lost quality in Kroos for WC26.
I mean who are the other contenders for WC26? Spain obviously as a favorite. Then? Engerland? France? Argentina? I'm not convinced

Argentina unfortunately is super strong...
France will always be one of the favourites because of their coach and the quality of their players.

But after those 3 its Germany for me too yeah

Nope England, by far best squad in the world of football, just need a coach. After us talent wise Portuguese are better than the French now. France can't be taken serious now with Deschamps, thats a massive disaster waiting to happen as the crowd already booing at there games now.

Hypothetically if England or France had a coach who could get 100% optimal performance out of the squad, and Germany the same, who’s better?

Tournaments aren’t won on paper of course, part of the fun!

Argentina don’t have a great squad, haven’t in a long while. Their fullbacks aren’t great, their midfield is decent but nothing crazy. A merely good squad with some really top players, elevated by Messi is still enough to win a WC

I think Germany having a genuinely elite modern coach is their trump card, other sides don’t have that.

Where are Germany strongest currently? They’ve two 10-ish players of exquisite quality in Wirtz and Musiala. Are they better than Foden and Palmer? Maybe in international performance but not at club level. It’s pretty even. England can call on a 100 million player like Grealish, or a Maddison as an understudy.

Germany’s absolutely strongest area and England at worst are slightly below them.

Germany don’t have a player like Jude Bellingham, basically nobody has a player so good at so much of the game. Camavinga can pretty much do anything but he’s not as good offensively. I haven’t seen a player this obviously good at everything as a midfielder since Paul Pogba. Bellingham is like Pogba, if he tried to maximise his obvious talent

Is Harry Kane, reigning European golden shoe winner better than anything Germany have up front? Yes

In terms of rapid defensive cover with a player so quick that even in their mid 30s, do Germany have a Kyle Walker? Or if (and it’s great to see him being trusted) does anyone in world football have as good a creator from right back as Trent Alexander-Arnold?

John Stones is phenomenally good with the ball, to the degree Pep has used him as an additional midfielder while in possession

I could do France but I’ll save it :p

In terms of pure talent, across every position in the team at least currently England and France are in a league of their own in world football currently.

But hey, there are ways around that. Spain showed that at the Euros.

I agree with your assessment that Germany were the second most impressive team in that tournament, and with a more embedded Nageslmann they may be even more fearsome

I think you have some points there and some are rose tinted
Nothing against Grealish but a "100 million player" doesn't mean shit. Premier League fans (guess ManU and Chelsea fans mainly) should know that best
I give you Kane, sure. Bellingham sure. Though Pavlovic may become an equal if all goes well for him.
TAA or Kimmich? I give it to Kimmich. Personal taste/ bias I guess. Walker can run that's for sure.
Goalie wise Germany wins by a landslide. And Rüdiger is a machine.
So yes, Engerland squad on paper may be better but it's not that big a difference

IMO Germany/England/France/Spain are almost equally strong. Money value might be higher in the PL but as Harris said, that doesnt say much tbh. England out of these teams didnt win any title since 66 so your if you go by results, they are dead last. Which is surprising if you have so many great players as England has.

I posit that among the top teams, the main thing determining whether they get a title is generally 'having a good run'. Player by player, Spain France Germany and England are very close. France might be ahead on overall squad depth, England might be ahead looking solely at midfield+attack in terms of player quality, while Spain might be more cohesive as a team and with a better plan for how to attack.

And while Spain looked best and won the EC looking best, I'd say Germany looked ever so slightly better than them in their h2h, and Spain was a bit lucky, there. The final vs England was incredibly close to ending 2-2, with a massive double chance near the very end - even though England was really close to being knocked out by Slovenia, which would have been a disaster tournament for them, in the end, they were a miracle save by Olmo away from getting to extra time in the final. For knockout tournaments between teams of roughly similar skill, the random factor and importance of coincidence really shouldn't be underestimated.

Definitely true but also team chemistry is very very important. That was the biggest problem for Germany since the 2016 Euro. It just wasnt working and thats why they wasted the last 8 years

Poch named new US manager.

Its very interesting to see that ken griffin just ponied up his couch change for his salary but I wonder how much emma hayes had in convincing him to take the job.

My hot take currently is that Emma Hays' destiny is to lead the English men's national team to the silverware that has been denied to it.

That would be a hell of an arc. Given, especially towards the end of his tenure a segment of the British press/populace complained about Southgate being too ‘woke’, sticking a woman in charge would probably see some heads explode!

So Haaland has more goals than every non-MC PL team so far. His average goals per game decreased today after scoring 2. Plz no injuries this season...
