I personally think the Ange decision is stupid from Tottenham. They had legitimate reasons for sucking in the EPL last year due to their injury crisis. If Ange maximised that cobbled together squad they maybe could’ve got up to like 10th or something. But he was pretty honest about sacking the PL to focus on Europa.

But if for nothing else, there’s a lot of pressure on whoever takes over. He’ll be in charge of a CL team with pretty clear and high expectations for the PL too. If Spurs go back to mid table mediocrity and another trophy drought, they’ll always be wondering about what if we just kept the guy who actually won something for us?

The other question is: who replaces him?

You don't get rid of the coach unless you think you can get someone better. Who is available? Some Aussie media are reporting Thomas Frank, does he even want to go to Spurs? He's got a great relationship with Brentford

I’m sure there’s more comprehensive articles out there, or imminent to being out there, still, some quite interesting tidbits in this one:

The cracks at Spurs that Europa League glory couldn’t hide - BBC

Also, assuming it’s mostly Spurs fans voting on the two embedded polls, on a strongly disagree to strongly agree scale, strongly disagree is the single biggest response there, and of suggested/rumoured replacements, Poch is the most popular single candidate by a decent chunk

Just put some nice money on Brentford to be relegated now as i think they are in huge trouble. Mbuemo going, Toney went last year and now Frank will go to Spurs, they in big trouble.

Spurs probably in hindsight did the right thing, they all just look at the Ten Hag situation and think that it will be the same, might as well reset now and get in someone with the pull of champs league etc.

What does success look like for at Spurs though next year? The PL is hard. There are six really good teams in Liverpool, Arsenal, City, Chelsea, Newcastle and Villa. Then you’ve got the sleeping giant in Man U and a solid lineup of tough mid table teams like Palace, Brighton, Bournemouth, Forrest etc.

Spurs aren’t contenders. At their best they’ll be in and around that top 6 but nothing is a given, especially given they’ll be in the CL which really tests squad depth. So if the next manager is in the 4-10 range and they don’t win anything is that better/worse? I just don’t get what Spurs want to be.

It made all the sense in the world to give him til Christmas next season to see if he can turn around the league form. Now whoever comes in will have to live up to perhaps impossibly high standards. But such is life at Tottenham I guess.

Yes success for Spurs is to get back into top 6 and go as far as possible in champs league, so Europa league position (lets be honest top 5 should be champs again as well) and beginging a new project. Frank should do that, Ange was good, gung ho got them a cup and they part ways both happy.

Brentford just need to survive a couple of years and they'll be fine.
Their owners make the right choices pretty consistently, and they are good at finding quality players on the cheap. Just the other day I saw Kelleher for £12m being bandied about.
I wouldn't bet against them being fine.

True, but they lost a lot of offense in 2 years with Mbeumo and Toney, thats a lot of goals gone. Frank going will mean they need to make the next appointment right, then all of a sudden they are battling with Leeds and co.

Last year, the promoted teams didn't have the money like Burnley and Leeds have, so it will be very interesting.

Forest are after Wissa too.

Unfortunately for Leeds and Burnley, PSR rules are heavily against them so they're still at a disadvantage.
Its likely both clubs lost alot of money last season in the Championship, and they are allowed to lose less money than every other team.

i know frank has been the red hot favourite for the spurs job but i've wondered why no club in the top 5 has gone after xavi. guy did a miracle job at barcelona and after getting sacked he's being slept on?

Meanwhile, Trump's new travel ban is likely to affect multiple countries qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. While there is an exemption for athletes and staff, explicitly at the discretion of the US Secretary of State, fans from the banned countries won't be able to come support their team.

Guardian article

- Iran have already qualified, top of their AFC group.

- Sudan are only 1 point from the automatic qualification place in their CAF group, with four rounds to go. Second place would be good enough for a spot in the 6 team playoff tournament. Libya have a small chance of making it as well.

- Haiti are equal top in their qualifying group, all but mathematically guaranteed to reach the final round of CONCACAF qualifying.

- Venezuela have opened up a 4 point gap to solidify 7th place in the CONMEBOL table, which guarantees a spot in the 6 team playoff tournament.

Wow sudan and lybiya are contenders for a WC spot? Interesting.

Meanwhile despite general lack of interest the Portugal-Spain final took place today and once again Diogo Costa came in and saved one for the win (even if this time around i dont particularly liked how he looked in the goals during the match).

Decent but nothing to remember i think summarizes the game tonight.

I’m planning to go next year and even I’m starting to feel a bit anxious about being let into the US.

I only watched the Germany game where he really played well (or at least better than almost every German player)
