I dont really care about Messi (or Ronaldo's) individual stats in those lesser leagues. The question is does their goals have an impact on the league placement of their respective clubs or is just is for cosmetic purposes?
The MLS is pretty equal in itself through salary cap so you can really see Messi shine everytime he is on the pitch cause it makes a world of difference. Though in all fairness, defending in the MLS is miles behind Euro top 5 leagues and Messi is pretty free to do Messi things. He is still mostly solo carrying his team despite beeing 37. On Ronaldo, no idea. I don't watch any Saudi league, not even YT clips
Vini is like Neymar: Obviously gifted player with a terrible character and personality... Rationally you kinda have to give him Ballon dOr and every other award but emotionally he is an asshat and deserves shit

What’s wrong with Vini? He seems an alright guy, I haven’t been that exposed to him mind
Even if he was an asshat I’d somewhat root for him for being racially abused multiple times in the last few years
hes just a dick. i dont even agree that hes been racially abused (other than the really obvious monkey ones). he cries heaps about being singled out for racial abuse but most of the time he isnt being abused due to race, hes being abused because hes got a terrible attitude. theres like at least 4 other black guys who are starters in real madrid and they dont get anywhere near as much abuse as vini does. the thing they all have in common is they dont come across as being unsportsmanlike assholes.

My earlier comments aged about as well as the multiple seasons of saying ‘Real Madrid aren’t that good, they were outplayed last tie surely they’ll lose eventually?’ haha
Surreal seeing Aston Villa atop the Champion’s League, even if it only ends up being temporary
Whoa Bodø-Glimt beats Braga on away field. 7 points after the first 3 EL games, a couple of them being pretty tough! Sadly they have the second toughest drawing of everyone based on coefficient and there are a couple tough remaining matches like Manunited and Nice on away field, but at least top 24 is starting to look overwhelmingly likely.

Calling him an unsportsmanlike asshole is not racial abuse. Calling him a unsportsmanlike N-word is. Even if you want to call him that because of his unsportsmanlike behavior and not because of his skin color.

Yes he was the first, and I believe the only instance of folks having state prosecution and all that entails for racial abuse. And was lead by La Liga as an organisation and not via individual prosecution.

Exactly. I mean look at Rüdiger who gets cheered for even by the fans of the opposition in away games.

I'm not sure that I'm comfortable with the idea that because fans are racist to one black guy and not the other, it must be the guy's fault that people are racist to him.

Yes I’d echo that. I mean the only folks ever jailed for racial abuse at football matches in Spain happen to be ones who targeted him. And Vini/Real didn’t lodge that complaint, La Liga itself did
Also, I might imagine being very vocal on racism, that itself may attract more of it. Racists aren’t particularly fond of people who call out such things, especially if they belong to a cohort they feel superior to.
James McClean is a slightly different case, but he attracted so much not for merely not wearing a poppy, but being vocal as to why
The archetypal Middle Englander has no issue with the Irish, provided they aren’t vocal about their politics, history or culture.
That or you have the ‘shut up and dribble’ mentality, which oddly enough tends only to refer to political/cultural conversations that those who say this don’t like, rather than across the board

I am not blaming the victim for racial abuse that is obviously wrong but I do blame the victim for beeing an asshat and getting flak for it in general. Unfortunately too many "fans" are crossing the line from one to the other
